16 August - national forecast presented by tom Morgan
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good afternoon. There is at least some good news for the drought-affected parts of England and Wales
00:05through the week ahead.
00:06There's some welcome rain on the way for many of us.
00:09So far today, though, the heaviest rain has been affecting parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, as you can see
00:13in this earlier radar clip.
00:14And the rain has been decaying and becoming more showery as it's pushed its way southwards into parts of Northern
00:19England.
00:20But this is associated with a fairly weak weather system that will quickly clear through the course of tonight.
00:25But it's this system coming in for Monday and Monday night that could bring some slightly heavier rain, for example,
00:30in the south.
00:31And then for Wednesday and Thursday, we see our winds gradually switch to more of a northy direction.
00:35So it is set to turn quite a bit cooler and more unsettled.
00:39Some heavy showers or thunderstorms around for many parts of the UK probably by Thursday.
00:44And as I say, some welcome rain on the way for the southern areas of the UK that really desperately
00:49need it.
00:50Out there this afternoon, though, it's the north where it's cloudier and generally a bit more showery.
00:54The rain tending to be quite hit and miss, though, so don't take the graphics too literally.
00:58There could well be one or two millimetres perhaps across parts of the Midlands and more eastern parts of the
01:03UK for a time.
01:04But overall, skies will brighten compared to this morning in England and Wales.
01:08So some warm spells of sunshine once again.
01:10Certainly not as hot as yesterday in the very far south east of England, where we saw over 30 degrees
01:15Celsius very locally.
01:17Nonetheless, we'll see temperatures in the mid to perhaps high 20s in a few spots.
01:21So feeling very warm indeed and largely dry.
01:24Further north, temperatures quite a bit lower.
01:2617 to 19 degrees overall for many parts of Scotland and northern Ireland.
01:30And there will here generally be more in a way of low clouds.
01:34So some mist and murk over the high ground and still some spells of light and drizzly rain mainly in
01:39the west.
01:40As we go through this evening, still some further spells of rain for some northern parts of the UK.
01:45And even further south across parts of northern England, eastern England as well.
01:48Perhaps a few millimetres of rain in places as we go into the early hours of Monday.
01:53But certainly nothing to hang your hat on.
01:55Certainly largely dry for many.
01:57Towards the end of the night, generally some showery outbreaks of rain developing across Wales and the south west.
02:03And quite misty, murky conditions over the high ground here too.
02:06That's associated with it turning a little bit more humid.
02:09So quite a warm night to come.
02:10Temperatures in the south not falling below 16 or 17 degrees Celsius for some of our towns and cities.
02:15And only a few degrees lower further north.
02:18So Monday dawns on a relatively cloudy note for many.
02:21Some early sunshine perhaps in the very far southeast.
02:24And the showers in the west will tend to be replaced by some longer spells of rain pushing into northern
02:29Ireland.
02:29So notice these shades of yellow, some slightly heavier bursts coming in through the day and also pushing into western
02:36Scotland and parts of northwest England.
02:38Otherwise though, a bright day to come for northeast Scotland.
02:41Some fairly lengthy spells of sunshine for Shetland and Orkney, although not especially warm here.
02:46Further south though, with the sunshine breaking through across Wales, southern and southwestern parts of England in particular,
02:52a warmer day to come.
02:54And certainly for all of us feeling more humid, temperatures of 26 to 28 degrees in the hottest spots in
02:59the south.
03:00And despite 18 to 20 degrees further north, as I say, even with the rain, it will feel warmer and
03:05more humid compared to on Sunday.
03:07The rain intensifies further through tomorrow evening.
03:10Notice all these shades of yellow and orange.
03:12So some pretty heavy downpours perhaps for parts of Scotland.
03:15The rain will edge its way southwest through Monday night into more southern parts of the UK,
03:20perhaps bringing a few millimetres in places too.
03:22So certainly a more changeable outlook as we go through the next few days.
03:26The chance of some heavy showers quite widely, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday.
03:30But of course, if you're watching this on YouTube, do make sure you hit subscribe so that you never miss
03:33any updates.
03:34I'll see you soon.
