00:00Well, we've made it to the weekend, and many people will be pretty glad to hear that things are going
00:05to be a bit fresher for many places.
00:08That's because there's a cold front, which is currently making its way northwest to southeast across the country.
00:13Ahead of it in the southeast, it's been another hot and humid day, and that high humidity lingers for a
00:20little while yet.
00:20But that front is pushing southeastwards, and it's going to make its way across all parts early in the weekend.
00:26It's bringing a bit of cloud, a little bit of rain perhaps, but it's the drop in temperatures I think
00:31many people will be noticing, and many people, like I say, will be quite grateful about.
00:36A lot of dry weather to come this weekend, a bit of showery rain, especially across northern parts, perhaps turning
00:42a bit heavier, more persistent later on Sunday.
00:44But back to Friday evening, and we need to watch out for the potential for some hefty, thundery downpours to
00:50develop across some eastern parts of England through the early hours of Saturday morning in particular.
00:56It could be some fairly intense downpours, 20, 30 millimetres in just a couple of hours.
01:01That could lead to some flash flooding, especially when you think the ground is so very dry at the moment,
01:06so it's unable to absorb that moisture, that rain, as quickly as it would otherwise do so.
01:12There will also be some showery outbreaks across western parts of England and Wales, perhaps Northern Ireland, but they'll be
01:18most frequent across northern and western parts of Scotland.
01:20Otherwise, a lot of dry weather, some clear skies, but a bit of cloud in a few places.
01:25And then, with that fresh air coming in behind that cold front towards the north, temperatures dropping to low double
01:31digits, single figures in some more prone rural spots.
01:35Further south, southeast, we're holding on to that high humidity, the warmth for a little while longer, so temperatures in
01:41the high teens, low 20s, still pretty uncomfortable here.
01:44But it's the humidity that's leading to those showers, which are likely to develop through the early hours of tomorrow
01:50morning.
01:50But they should clear away quite early on Saturday, so things turning dry.
01:55Most of the showers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will actually ease by lunchtime, so it's mostly dry by
02:00that point.
02:00A different story, though, for Scotland here, further showery rain coming in, becoming a bit more widespread.
02:05Doesn't look especially heavy, but the odd heavier burst, perhaps possible.
02:10A good deal of bright weather, not necessarily sunny for all of us, perhaps a bit more cloud than recent
02:15days across some central eastern parts of England.
02:18And it is still going to be very warm or hot, temperatures peaking around 27, 28 Celsius towards the south,
02:25and, well, fresher than this, closer to average, further north, mid to high teens.
02:29But it's worth drawing comparison between Saturday's highs and Friday's highs, and you can really see, especially across east and
02:35southeastern parts, a marked drop of 7, 8, maybe 9 degrees in some places.
02:41So really feeling fresher, even if those temperatures are still going to be a bit above average.
02:46The drop less marked the further north and west you are, because we've already had that fresher air coming in
02:51as that front's moved through.
02:54Later on Saturday, some of the shower rain across Scotland will ease a little, but it never really clears away.
02:59And then we'll see more cloud outbreaks of rain spilling in across Northern Ireland, pushing into western parts of Scotland
03:05through the night and the early hours of Sunday morning.
03:08Otherwise, a lot of dry weather, and it is going to be a fresher night than this coming night, markedly
03:12so in the southeast.
03:14Temperatures around 5, 6 degrees lower, more comfortable.
03:17Perhaps many people will be happy to hear that news.
03:20Further north, temperatures, yeah, again, similar to this coming night.
03:24Low double digits, single figures in some places.
03:27Then on Sunday, central southern areas are mostly fine.
03:30A few spots of rain, perhaps, particularly if there are any higher ground, because there's some thickening cloud, perhaps.
03:35But a good deal of fine weather to be had.
03:37Further north, it's a cloudier picture.
03:39Outbreaks of rain, not too heavy, but it could be a little bit persistent at times across parts of Northern
03:45Ireland.
03:46Later, western parts of Scotland could turn a bit soggy, perhaps.
03:50A good deal of sunshine towards the south by the afternoon, but temperatures are a little bit lower than on
03:55Saturday.
03:55Still mid, possibly high 20s, I suppose, but, yeah, not as hot as it has been.
04:01And temperatures similar to Saturday across more northern parts, but with the cloud and the rain pushing in, well, that's
04:06going to make it feel a little bit fresher.
04:08There is more wet weather to come as we go into next week.
04:12Now, it has been very dry recently, so we don't just need a little bit of rain.
04:16We need some long-lasting, persistent rain to help alleviate the drought conditions.
04:21It doesn't look like we're going to see that particularly soon, especially across England and Wales, because as we go
04:26into the beginning of next week,
04:27it's across northern areas, really, that we're likely to see the heavier, more persistent rain arriving further south, staying drier.
04:33But at least there are signs that there will be some rain coming through, and it is for sure going
04:39to be a bit fresher, with temperatures much closer to average.
