00:05Peaking on Thursday, extreme temperatures for the UK, 37 to 38 Celsius.
00:10Peaking on Thursday, hence why the Met Office have issued an extreme heat warning,
00:14an amber warning for eastern parts of England.
00:16Now, before we get to Thursday, it's a warm night tonight.
00:19We're certainly going to notice the difference compared with previous nights this week,
00:22where it's been a little bit fresher.
00:24Overnight, it's going to be a, well, markedly warmer night,
00:28and a lot of clear skies.
00:31But for Scotland and Northern Ireland, here we've got thickening cloud
00:33and some outbreaks of showery rain pushing into the north and the west of Scotland.
00:37Heavy downpours at times, the old rumble of thunder.
00:39Northern Ireland, the rest of Scotland, seeing occasional showers as well and thicker cloud.
00:43But for England and Wales, clear spells.
00:45Whether you've got the clear spells or not, it's going to be a very warm night.
00:49Temperatures in places staying at 17 to 18 Celsius.
00:53Mid-teens further north, where we've got the cloudier skies.
00:56And those outbreaks of rain continuing into Wednesday morning.
00:59Now, they'll clear Northern Ireland first thing, pushing through central and northern Scotland,
01:03easing a little as the day progresses.
01:05The cloud breaks up, sunshine comes through,
01:07and it's a very warm day across the United Kingdom.
01:10Temperatures widely above average up and down the country.
01:15And widely the mid-twenties for Scotland, for Northern Ireland as well.
01:20For England and Wales, well, high-twenties in the east, a bit fresher,
01:27where we've got a breeze coming from the North Sea.
01:29But inland, those temperatures reaching the low to mid-thirties in places,
01:33peaking at 34 or 35, somewhere across central and southern parts of England.
01:39So, a hot day to come today.
01:41Several degrees hotter compared with Tuesday.
01:44And those temperatures are going to continue to rise on Wednesday night and into Thursday.
01:50But, in other news, if you're interested in viewing the partial solar eclipse,
01:54which is around, or thereabouts, 7pm on Wednesday evening,
02:00well, it's looking very favourable across many parts of the UK,
02:04but not for all parts.
02:05It certainly looks like clear skies across a bulk of England and Wales.
02:09Some patchy cloud into northern England, but should thin and break at times.
02:12Likewise for southern and eastern Scotland.
02:15Eastern parts of Northern Ireland could see some cloud breaks.
02:17The north and west of Northern Ireland,
02:19a bit of a thickening of the cloud through the evening.
02:23So, hmm, could be lucky.
02:26But western Scotland, especially the far northwest,
02:28more likely to keep the thicker cloud and those showers continuing.
02:32So, not so favourable there.
02:35But, yeah, for the rest of the UK, like I say, just after 7pm,
02:39more than 90% of the sun covered best opportunities for seeing a partial solar eclipse
02:45until the year 2081.
02:47So, you won't want to miss it, but you will want to view it safely, of course,
02:51for all the latest advice about wearing certified eyewear
02:55or using pinhole camera or whatever.
02:58But, yeah, make sure you view it safely.
02:59Overnight, it's another very warm night.
03:01Temperatures in some places staying above 20 Celsius.
03:05Uncomfortable for sleeping.
03:07And that gets us off to another very warm, if not hot, day to come on Thursday.
03:13Now, for the north and west of Scotland, Northern Ireland as well,
03:16cloudier skies at times.
03:17Outbreaks of fairly heavy rain.
03:19Some lively downpours into the far northwest of Scotland.
03:22But for eastern Scotland, southern Scotland, largely dry.
03:26England and Wales, another mostly cloud-free day.
03:29And those temperatures rising with the heat more focused towards the east on Thursday
03:34compared with the west.
03:35And we're talking about widely the mid-30s.
03:38And in some places, through the East Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast,
03:42those temperatures peaking between 37 and 38 Celsius.
03:46Highly unusual values for the UK.
03:48You may not think so, because we've already seen 37 being recorded twice so far this year.
03:53But if it happens on Thursday, it will be the third time this year,
03:56but only the ninth time on record in the UK.
04:00And once we get temperatures into the mid-30s, of course,
04:02we start to see impacts on the infrastructure in the United Kingdom.
04:05And also, we see more widespread health impacts.
04:08Hence, the amber extreme heat warning,
04:10which covers this sort of area you can see marked on the graphics.
04:14So, East Midlands into parts of East Anglia and the southeast.
04:18That's where 37 to 38 Celsius is most likely on Thursday.
04:22Temperatures falling from the northwest on Friday
04:25and a much cooler weekend to come.
04:27But no sign of significant rain in the south and the east for some time.
