00:00Hi again. Another spell of exceptionally hot weather is on the way later this week, particularly
00:05across parts of England and Wales. But if you've been wondering where the rain has gone, well
00:09the answer is the north-west of the UK, especially north-western parts of Scotland where we've
00:13actually seen close to half a month's worth of rainfall in the last 48 hours in some spots.
00:18It's been courtesy of this slow-moving weather front that's now starting to drift its way
00:22south-eastwards across the UK. So it's been a wet start this morning across parts of Northern
00:26Ireland, southern Scotland and indeed northern England as well. And this is a band of rain
00:31that will continue to slowly clear away as we go through the rest of today. High pressure
00:34then takes over for the coming week. As well as that, temperatures are on the rise, winds
00:39switch to a southerly direction and by Wednesday and Thursday we'd like to see temperatures
00:42into the mid-30s Celsius for many parts of England and Wales. So once again some exceptionally
00:48high temperatures returning to parts of the UK. Now out and about this afternoon it's actually
00:54very warm indeed across many parts of England and Wales and in the south-east in particular
00:58it's turning into a hotter day compared to yesterday. Temperatures may even peak in the
01:02low 30s for some. Further north it's a different story, a cooler day compared to on Saturday
01:07particularly for Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England. This band of rain
01:11tending to break up to showers as we go through the course of this afternoon but there'll still
01:15be one or two heavier bursts here and there. Further north it's a much brighter and drier
01:20end to the weekend for north-west Scotland after that very wet day yesterday. Here a mixture
01:25of sunny spells and a few blustery showers and look at these temperatures. Only 14 to
01:2916 degrees Celsius for the north and north-west of Scotland, so feeling quite cool for August.
01:35Now as we go through this evening that band of rain continues to make its way slowly and
01:39erratically further south, perhaps moving into parts of North Wales, northern parts of England,
01:43the North Midlands as well but really just a band of cloud and the odd shower by the time
01:47we get to the end of the night. Now to the south of that we'll hold on to some pretty
01:52high temperatures after today's heat, so temperatures in the south perhaps holding up at between 15
01:56and 16 degrees Celsius in the main towns and cities and maybe one or two fog patches particularly
02:01in south-west England. But to the north of that band of cloud a much cooler night to come,
02:06actually turning quite chilly across some rural parts of Scotland, northern Ireland and northern
02:10England and here we can see temperatures in prone spots perhaps get down to mid-single figures,
02:14so low enough even for a touch of grass frost in some prone spots.
02:19Across the north-east of Scotland though it stays quite breezy with showers for Shetland and Auckland
02:23and right the way through Monday that kind of cool blustery theme continues here. So sunny spells,
02:28occasional showers but otherwise across the UK it's set to be another dry day. There will be some
02:34cloud around at times, certainly through the morning for some southern parts of England but for many
02:38there'll be plenty amounts of sunshine again as we go through Monday, some build-up of high-level
02:44clouds drifting in from the Atlantic through the afternoon, probably turning the sunshine a little
02:47bit hazier but it will still feel pleasantly warm, certainly in the north temperatures of 17 to 22
02:53degrees Celsius so in the sunshine pleasant enough and not as hot in the south as it was on Sunday
03:00afternoon so 26 or 27 will be our highs but certainly still temperatures above average even in the south.
03:07Now as we go through into Monday evening not a lot changes, it stays fine, dry and relatively warm for
03:13most as we end the day, possibly a bit more in the way of thicker cloud pushing into western Scotland
03:17and some patchy rain and drizzle but as I say the main story as we go through the next few
03:22days and
03:23into the coming week is just that build in terms of temperatures as we go through Tuesday and more
03:29especially on Wednesday and Thursday where we could see highs of 35 or 36 degrees Celsius in some spots so
03:34there is the potential for some impacts to infrastructure, possibly some impacts to the
03:39vulnerable people as well, elderly and the very young. So do make sure if you're watching this
