00:00Welcome to your weekend weather update. Very similar to last weekend, in fact, in that the weekend will be a bit drier than the preceding week,
00:09but there will still be plenty of showers and we'll still have low pressure dominating proceedings.
00:14This is the rainfall accumulation as we go through the weekend. Not huge amounts, but enough to cause some problems just because it has been so wet.
00:23And as we get to the end of Sunday, three main areas stick out and they're the same three areas that have seen the heaviest rain for the past few weeks.
00:31So it's the southwest, parts of Northern Ireland, particularly the east and again, eastern parts of Scotland.
00:37Why these three areas? Well, it's all to do with the way the winds are coming.
00:40Low pressure anchored down to the southwest, the winds swirling around that anticlockwise, bringing the moisture into the southwest,
00:47feeding it in off the Irish Sea into the east of Northern Ireland.
00:50And that continuous feed of the breeze, bringing moisture into eastern Scotland as well.
00:56So, yes, there could be further issues through the weekend, even though the rain itself not especially heavy.
01:02The reason this low pressure is kind of milling around is because there's no real push to it.
01:06It's kind of just going to fizzle out in place because the jet stream is well down to the south,
01:11taking further spells of wet weather across Spain and Portugal, where we'll continue to see some flooding issues.
01:16As for us, this low, I say, is detached from that jet stream.
01:20So it's just going to kind of meander its way northwards, bringing showery rain northwards as it goes.
01:26So there'll be some heavy showers, it looks like, for Wales and southwest England on Saturday morning.
01:30They may well work into parts of Northern Ireland through the day.
01:33The showers extending into northern England, parts of the Midlands.
01:36We may not see too many showers at all across eastern parts of England.
01:40And again, with the breeze coming in from the southeast, looking rather sheltered in western Scotland.
01:47So mostly dry and fine here with the best chance for some sunny spells.
01:51That feed of rain now continues into eastern Scotland.
01:53A bit of snow over the tops of the hills, but things are turning a bit milder by the weekend.
01:57So we're not too concerned about the amounts of snowfall.
02:00Temperature is ticking up, but still on the cold side here, 6 or 7 Celsius.
02:04Add on that breeze and it will feel colder than that, whereas further south will be up to 10 or 11 Celsius.
02:09Compare that to the average for the middle of February, and we're around or about a degree above across England and Wales,
02:15but still on the cold side across northern and eastern parts of Scotland.
02:20Now that low pressure continues to fill, really, as we go through the weekend, which means it continues to weaken.
02:25Still, the isobar is close enough together to bring some brisk winds at times and still feed the moisture into eastern Scotland.
02:32And around this area of low pressure, there will continue to be bands of showers milling around.
02:37So, again, we could see those showers building up across eastern parts of Scotland.
02:42Maybe a wet start for northeast England.
02:44With that low being slow moving, you know, these bands of rain could be in different positions.
02:49So don't take this forecast too literally, but be prepared for showers through the weekend.
02:53Something a bit brighter maybe for England and Wales, perhaps a better chance of seeing some sunny spells.
02:58And again, with a bit of shelter, western Scotland likely to be largely dry,
03:02and that's where we have the best chance of seeing some sunshine.
03:06Again, still pretty cold in that northeastern corner, five or six degrees.
03:09Add on the wind, it will feel quite a bit colder.
03:11Elsewhere, temperatures, again, close to average, nine or ten degrees Celsius.
03:16With plenty going on, even though the weather isn't moving too rapidly,
03:20you'll want to keep up to date with the Met Office forecast and warnings.
