00:00Hello there, welcome to your week ahead forecast from the Met Office.
00:04Now this week, not a lot of a meaningful rain away from the far north and northwest of Scotland
00:10where we are likely to see some rain coming in, rain and drizzle,
00:15and on a couple of days we could see 10 to 15 millimetres over the higher ground.
00:20But for most it's a dry week, high pressure still influencing our weather,
00:24but as we go through the week, and you'll notice on the synoptic charts,
00:28that high is declining away towards the south.
00:31And a real contrast in temperature as well.
00:34Very warm for some across central and southern areas,
00:37even the central belt of Scotland seeing some high values in terms of temperature,
00:41but cool across the far north and northwest where you'll see more cloud
00:45and also rain from time to time.
00:48But for most of the country where we're seeing parklands and gardens and farmland
00:53certainly parched with the lack of rain, we are really looking for rain
00:57and there will be some coming in as we head into the weekend,
01:00certainly for more central and northern areas.
01:03So here's that high pressure sitting towards the west of the UK,
01:07and for most it's a quiet start through Monday evening and into Tuesday.
01:13Yes, we will see more cloud across more northern and northwestern areas,
01:17and with that it will be a bit damp in places.
01:20You can see here some patchy rain, particularly for the far north and northwest of Scotland.
01:26Also for Northern Ireland, you can see more clouds, spits and spots in the breeze here,
01:31but for most it's a fine morning, a bit chilly across rural Scotland, rural Wales,
01:36certainly temperatures rising very nicely through the afternoon,
01:39and we'll see that strong sunshine coming through.
01:41You may find through the middle part of the day, the cloud builds somewhat,
01:45seeing some strata cumulus, but for most that will break up through evening time,
01:50allowing for some late sunshine.
01:51So here are your temperatures through the afternoon.
01:55Here, central belt, 25, 26 Celsius, a similar situation anywhere across eastern and southern Wales
02:01down towards the southeast, so very warm conditions here,
02:04and certainly pleasantly warm elsewhere with some sunny breaks coming through.
02:09And even where we've seen the patchy rain and drizzle,
02:12notice it is just coming and going across the north and northwest of Scotland,
02:15and so there will be some drier interludes and some shelter coming through for Northern Ireland as well.
02:20So in shelter, places such as Newry, you could see a 20 degrees Celsius,
02:25but across the far north and northwest, temperatures pegged back probably the mid-teens.
02:29So for most, a fine evening, a dry one, the cloud breaking up, allowing for that late sunshine.
02:37Here's that high pressure slowly sinking towards the southwest there,
02:42and this weather front here on Wednesday again will bring the prospect of a little showery rain.
02:48So again, good news for the far north where you will see some wet weather,
02:52but it will never really amount to very much, certainly through the day,
02:5610 to 15 millimetres across the upslopes towards the northwest.
03:00A bit more cloud elsewhere as well through the morning into the afternoon.
03:04It will build, it will sink southwards, but some brighter skies, it will feel warm in that sunshine.
03:10Certainly we hang on to brighter weather across more central and western areas,
03:13and even where we're seeing that showery rain through the morning across the north, northeast,
03:18and northwest of Scotland, it will break up at times.
03:21So here, temperature's probably 16 Celsius, 18 for western Scotland.
03:25Temperatures will be a couple of degrees higher than Tuesday for Northern Ireland, so 21 here,
03:31and along this east coast where you catch that brighter weather, probably 22 to 23.
03:36But for the Midlands, East Wales, central and southern parts of England and Wales,
03:40yes, temperature's still rising into 26, 27, so another very warm day,
03:45and a bit of a breeze coming in across the northwest.
03:48Now, the air becomes a bit more humid through the next few days.
03:53You'll notice the difference with some warmer nights towards the south and southeast.
03:57That high then still clearing towards the far southwest there.
04:01Still an influence of our weather being from that anticyclone through Thursday.
04:06But through Thursday, there will be a few showery bursts around.
04:09So a bit of a cloudier start to the day, a warmer start as well with that canopier cloud.
04:15And notice a few showery bursts just coming down the east coast there, so it could clip the eastern side.
04:20And one or two showers could develop inland through the morning into the afternoon,
04:24but they'll be scattered and light.
04:26And then the winds pick up a bit more across the far northwest of Scotland.
04:30A southwesterly wind, so that will bring temperatures up a notch as well.
04:34So 17, 18 Celsius here, but certainly some showery bursts.
04:39For most, though, it's a fine end to the day with some bright skies and then some sunshine as the
04:44cloud breaks up.
04:46And still very warm across more central and southern areas.
04:48This 26 will be your high, a pleasant 21 for Northern Ireland, 22, 23 for the central belt of Scotland.
04:54And eastern Scotland seeing some higher temperatures here, 20 or 21 degrees Celsius.
05:00Certainly warm along this east coast, some pleasant weather to be out and about with that sunshine.
05:05So that's the picture on Thursday.
05:07As I said, the humidity will be slightly higher through into Thursday, Thursday evening as well.
05:13So a warmer night towards the southeast.
05:15But notice the winds pick up towards the north and northwest.
05:18So a windier day on Friday across Scotland, maybe a bit gusty over the hills as well.
05:24And here's a weak weather front introducing more cloud, a lighter breeze further south and southwest.
05:30And a bit more cloud to start the day, but it will break.
05:33Notice the winds here then picking up and we'll see some showery bursts of rain,
05:37which will extend across central and northern areas of Scotland.
05:40Elsewhere, a fine day with some sunny spells.
05:43So no meaningful rain away from the northwest through this week.
05:48And with that, yes, 10 to 15 millimetres likely, particularly through the middle part of the week
05:53into the latter part of the week towards the northwest of Scotland.
05:58On Friday afternoon, still some high temperatures further south as well.
06:02So we could see a 28 across the home counties, the southeast of England.
06:07And a very warm 25 for the Midlands, eastern parts of Wales, eastern counties of England.
06:12But notice a bit more cloud across central and northern areas of Scotland.
06:15Even so, some warmth in the air, particularly in shelter towards more eastern areas with the wind coming in from
06:21the southwest.
06:22And where you see that clouds, bits and spots of rain, but more persistent rain towards the northwest.
06:27For Northern Ireland in shelter, some fine weather, some bright conditions.
06:31But notice this rain just skirting and attempting to push in across the north and northwest of Northern Ireland
06:38through the afternoon and into evening time.
06:41So that high is declining.
06:43We see weather fronts then allowing just to pick up.
06:47And they'll become a bit more active into the weekend, certainly across more northern and central areas.
06:52So some rain on its way, some much needed rain for many areas as that high pressure continues to decline.
07:00And yes, we'll see some changeable conditions and that band of rain through Saturday.
07:05Stay tuned to the forecast.
07:06Obviously, we'll keep you posted here on all our social media channels.
07:10Take care.
07:11Have a good week.
07:11And I'll see you soon.
