00:00Hello and welcome to the Met Office weekend weather update.
00:04It's a weekend of dodging downpours, particularly if you're heading out for any outdoor events,
00:09either early bonfire displays or indeed Halloween Friday nights if you're stepping out, there
00:15will be a lot of showers around.
00:17Some clear spells, it's not going to be raining everywhere all the time, you can see some
00:20decent gaps between the showers across Scotland, parts of central and eastern England for a
00:24time during the evening before the next system pushes some more prolonged heavy rain into
00:28parts of Wales and the southwest later in the evening, that accompanied by gusty winds.
00:34So my best suggestion is to check the radar before stepping out because there'll be a
00:39lot of showers around but also some breaks in the cloud.
00:44It's going to be reasonably mild on Friday evening but it's turning colder as you go into the
00:48weekend with air sourced originally from Greenland but moving over warmer seas that causes a lot
00:54of instability so with low pressure in charge we're going to see a lot of showers and various
01:00systems also coming in from the west bringing some longer spells of rain as well as gusty winds.
01:05We start the day on Saturday 1st of November with some wet weather across Scotland, northern England
01:11that tends to push north eastwards through the morning confined to Shetland and Orkney later on
01:17and a more traditional mix of sunny spells and showers for much of the rest of the day and across
01:22many parts of the UK. The showers most frequent across western and southern parts of the country
01:28and those showers will be lively, thunder, lightning, hail possible and some very gusty winds surrounding
01:35the showers. In between the downpours there will be some sunny spells, not feeling quite as mild as
01:40Friday but still the potential for 15 celsius in the south, 11 or 12 further north and generally a frost free
01:48weekend because the gusty winds overnight will keep things mild and on Saturday night if you are
01:53heading out for any bonfire displays well it's still going to be showery and the most showery
01:58weather will be across the south and the west of the UK but reasonable gaps here and there between the
02:04showers particularly for the Midlands, eastern England, eastern Scotland so it's not a complete washout
02:10but there will be some heavy downpours around. One system moves through overnight and clears the east
02:16on Sunday morning this again a lively system with gusty winds, hail, thunder and lightning then it calms
02:21down a little bit still blustery and particularly strong winds for the north and northwest of Scotland
02:26further downpours here but elsewhere during Sunday there will be a few hours where there will be fewer
02:32showers and a better chance of some sunshine coming through, lighter winds as well and feeling a bit more
02:39pleasant even if it is technically a touch cooler. But that's only ahead of the next system you can see some
02:44persistent rain pushing into the Republic of Ireland and then reaching Northern Ireland by late in the
02:50day that sweeps across the UK Sunday night into Monday and in fact it's attached to this low which
02:55contains the remnants of Hurricane Melissa which of course caused so much devastation through the
03:00Caribbean earlier in the week. Now it's not going to be a hurricane when it reaches the UK it's just
03:06going to be a typical mid-latitude low having weakened considerably following passage over much cooler waters of the
03:13north Atlantic but it's still going to point the winds in from the southwest and bring a lot of moisture with it and
03:21as a result Monday and Tuesday we're going to see some wet weather across many parts of the UK on this moist
03:27southwesterly airflow but the wettest weather will be across higher parts of northwestern UK, northwest England and
03:33western Scotland in particular. So we'll be keeping you updated on all of that but for now well enjoy the weekend just make sure you watch the
