00:00Best-case scenarios for the Browns quarterback situation
00:03and each guy individually.
00:05We've already talked about Deshaun Watson.
00:07We talked about Shadour Sanders.
00:10And best case for Deshaun, in my estimation, stays healthy, looks viable,
00:16plays 13 to 17 games, allows the young guys to develop, runs the offense well.
00:21I don't think that's happening.
00:23I don't think he's going to stay healthy.
00:26Shadour takes over as the starter, plays great,
00:29becomes the man.
00:31I don't think that's likely because, and I think that's the best-case scenario.
00:36My hope is that he does.
00:38I'd start him.
00:39He'd be my starting quarterback on this team.
00:41But I don't know if that's likely.
00:44Dylan Gabriel's best-case scenario, I think, is likely, Nick, in my estimation.
00:51I think his best-case scenario is this.
00:54At some point this year, he ends up as the starting quarterback
00:57or gets to start a couple of games.
01:00And that's possible.
01:02You know, that's possible.
01:04Sure.
01:04He runs the offense well.
01:06I expect him to run the offense well.
01:08That would allow the other young guys to develop.
01:11Same type of deal with Deshaun.
01:13And that he shows that he has a long career in the NFL.
01:18But not as a starting quarterback.
01:21I just don't view Dylan as a starting quarterback.
01:24I didn't when they drafted him.
01:25And I might be hung up on the fact that he's not the biggest guy in the world.
01:30But that, to me, he could have a 10- to 12-year career in the NFL.
01:35Make a lot of money.
01:37And play solid football.
01:38Yeah.
01:38Yeah.
01:39Rod and all offenses.
01:39There's nothing wrong with that, Jeff.
01:42And I do agree with you.
01:43I think that this definitely does have a chance of happening.
01:46Because right now, I find it very fascinating that even though Shador is the backup
01:51on the depth chart, Shador is alternating reps, the scout team, with Talon Green.
01:57So I wonder if Dylan would be healthy.
02:00If Shador and Dylan would be rotating those backup scout team reps.
02:04Which might make you think, hmm, who really is the backup?
02:08Right.
02:08And the fact that they are rotating reps, even with Shador and Talon Green, not to get too
02:14far ahead of ourselves here, kind of makes me wonder, is there a real world come game
02:20day where Deshaun Watson's quarterback won?
02:23We know that.
02:24But maybe it's not Shador as QB2.
02:27Maybe it's actually Talon Green as QB2 with Shador Sanders as the emergency third not dressed.
02:34And the reason why I wonder that is because I do wonder if what they're installing right
02:40now in terms of the offense, it's going to be tailored to Deshaun's strengths.
02:45And that's a lot of, you know, read option stuff.
02:49Could Talon Green be a better suited backup for that style of offense?
02:54Whereas Shador is just a different type of quarterback, and obviously Dylan's a different type of
02:59quarterback.
02:59It almost wouldn't surprise me if Talon Green is the guy that suits up as the backup QB so
03:06they could run some of those trick packages and things that we've heard about ever since
03:10they drafted Talon there in day three of the NFL draft.
03:13I don't think that would happen quickly.
03:16Yeah, like not week one, but we would see down the road.
03:20I just think with Dylan, like for instance, if Deshaun's going to use his feet more than
03:26we think he might, and I'll need to see that to believe it after coming off of the Achilles
03:32injury.
03:33Let's be fair and give him time.
03:35Yeah.
03:36And he, you know, when he was in Houston, he ran the ball well.
03:39But let's see if he can do that here.
03:42I don't want Dylan in that role.
03:45No.
03:45You know, I think Dylan running the football, and he certainly is mobile, but man, he's
03:51just not very big.
03:52And you just get the feeling that that guy would just get rocked.
03:56You got to treat Dylan Gabriel kind of how Sean Payton treated Drew Brees.
04:01And I'm not trying to compare the skill sets, but it's undersized guys that are going to
04:06have to get rid of that football quickly.
04:08If Dylan, you know, makes a career as a backup, it's going to be because he's getting the football
04:13out quickly and he's not, you know, fading back or trying to step up with all of those
04:17big guys around him in the pocket.
04:20That's just not going to be good for him.
04:22We'll see what happens with Dylan.
04:23It's, you know, he played really well in the, in the last preseason game against the
04:28Patriots for everybody who says, well, you know, Shador didn't get any reps.
04:32Well, Todd Munkin will flat out tell you, we didn't give Dylan Gabriel and Taylor green
04:37any reps either who looked really good in that last preseason game.
04:41Again, I know last preseason game, you're going up against third, fourth string guys.
04:45Great.
04:46That's the only opportunity they had.
04:48Right.
04:48So what did they need to do in it?
04:49They needed to look good.
04:50They did look good.
04:52Dylan looked great.
04:53And Taylor green looks so much fun and intriguing.
04:57It was, it was great.
04:57Best case scenario for tailing green.
05:01I think this is viable.
05:03I think this is possible.
05:05He sits most of the year, maybe gets a chance to play a bit late, goes into next season with
05:14a chance to perhaps compete to be the starting quarterback, depending on what happens in the
05:20draft or a chance to be the backup quarterback on this team and maybe become the man.
05:27I think that's real viable.
05:30I think, I think that's quite possible because I, Nick, he looked really interesting.
05:35His college work looked interesting and his athletic skill set is terrific.
05:40Yeah.
05:41And I get that he's raw at the quarterbacky stuff and that's, what's going to take them
05:46time to get on the field because that's what's, you know, the same thing kind of going on with
05:50Deshaun.
05:51When you hear them talking about getting the play in and out of the huddle, you know, getting
05:54everybody lined up at the line of scrimmage.
05:56Like, I imagine that's going to be an adjustment for Talon Green during his rookie year as well.
06:02I'm so caught up, Jeff, with Talon Green on what sort of action can they put that young man in
06:10sooner than what some people might be comfortable with.
06:13And maybe it is on a, on a random Sunday, he's the surprise activation.
06:18He's going to be the backup quarterback and not the emergency third.
06:22And then, you know, Hey, around the goal line, we could maybe use this guy's speed in the
06:26red zone.
06:26We could maybe do some read option stuff with Talon Green.
06:30Maybe I'm just a, you know, delusional, optimistic believer in this kid who was a sixth round
06:35pick.
06:36I'm like you though.
06:37I had a lot of fun in that preseason finale and saw what he did, you know, running the
06:41football with his legs.
06:42I just think that that's like a, that's a skill that he has at six foot six that not
06:49many other QBs in the league really do have.
06:52I don't think the idea of him coming in and doing, you know, special packages or being in
07:00certain scenarios, I don't think that's going to happen.
07:03I just think for this year, he's going to sit and he's going to watch a lot of football
07:11and that's okay.
07:12I, maybe by the end of the year, he gets in there a little bit.
07:16I don't see anything with him anytime soon.
07:18And the main reason I say that sixth round pick, you don't, you don't draft a guy in the
07:24sixth and even think about putting him on the field yet.
07:26And he did not play until the second half of the last preseason game, right?
07:32He hasn't had many reps at all, right?
07:34But, but, but Jeff, you know how this works.
07:36Like we've already got one QB on the IR right now of our four Dylan's shelf for the first
07:41three weeks.
07:41If they get dinged up, you're right.
07:43You know, and I've seen this movie before as well, where if the losses start to stack
07:48and they're starting to feel maybe a little helpless offensively, I don't know.
07:54Maybe, maybe you'll look to them out of sheer desperation.
07:57I've seen Brown's coaching staffs get, get desperate before and try crazy things before
08:01this isn't even that crazy to me just because the kid is an athlete and I know he could
08:05make plays, how, how it goes with him throwing the quarterback, you know, throwing the football
08:10rather as a quarterback.
08:11I don't know.
08:12Cause they haven't really asked him to do much of that, but, but with his legs, it's
08:16going to be fun if he gets that opportunity.
08:18Let me, let me throw this at you though.
08:21If Todd Munkin now is picking Deshaun Watson over Shadour Sanders, if they get to a situation
08:29where Dylan can't go, Shadour can't go, Deshaun can't go, and they actually need a quarterback,
08:36don't you think he might be, I do, more inclined, go get me some veteran quarterback who's been
08:42out there a while and I'll get that guy ready to play because we're not going to throw him
08:45on the field because the Deshaun decision to me screams, Todd's trying to win.
08:51And I, if Hunter, if, uh, excuse me, if Taylor green doesn't give him a chance, maybe he goes
08:58out and he gets somebody else who comes in and they use that guy and, and just try and
09:05have competent quarterback play from a veteran.
09:07That's probably the likely case.
09:09Like, like, like if you, if we're watching Taylor green, like make a start, you know,
09:15like a meaningful start, if you will, in the regular season, like I can't realistically
09:20see that happening.
09:21So maybe week 14, 15, if the season is truly sunk.
09:25And at that point, you're just going to say, Hey, let's see what the kid can do.
09:28But, but I wonder if they mix in some, let's see what the kid can do.
09:32If they make them a backup quarterback and try to do some of these trick packages and weird
09:36exotic things, but see if you make them the backup and somebody gets hurt, then you got
09:40to play away, right?
09:41He's a, he's an ankle turn away.
09:43It doesn't even have to be a big injury.
09:44It could be the quarterback needs to go get taped.
09:47And the next thing you know, Taylor greens in live bullets.
09:49I hear you.
09:50I mean, I am really intrigued by his skillset.
09:53I would, I would love to have that dream story come true.
09:56You know, the, the really athletic guy who's a big guy can run really well that that guy
10:01becomes something.
10:02I just don't think it's likely this year.
10:05And I think it'll take some time if that one's ever actually going to happen.
