00:00Do you believe he wants to keep everybody?
00:022-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-9-2-2.
00:04Do you think there's a guy at the end of the roster
00:06where he's like, oh, this guy blows.
00:08And you just can't wait to get rid of him today?
00:12No, I don't.
00:15I mean, I'm sure they say that
00:16in the privacy of their offices or whatever.
00:19I'm sure that there's commentary
00:21regarding certain players on the roster.
00:23I've heard stories from coaches about this topic
00:28that some of the inside jokes, if you will,
00:32between the staff that the players don't get hip to,
00:35pretty funny.
00:37Sometimes on par with what fans are saying
00:41about certain players,
00:43especially as it pertains to things like effort,
00:45things that are just obvious.
00:47When you see those clips that start trending
00:49on social media of a guy
00:51just clearly mailing it in on a play,
00:54those instantly become jokes amongst coaching staffs.
00:58The biggest decisions that have to be made today
01:01obviously starts with the quarterback room.
01:03Do they keep all four of the guys on the 53
01:05or do they try and get one through waivers
01:08and onto the practice squad?
01:10You have the sixth,
01:12assuming they keep six wide receivers
01:16because Tylan Wallace is going to be wide receiver number five.
01:18So the sixth wide receiver,
01:21which I think comes down to Malachi Corley and Luke Floria.
01:24And I think Corley wins that because of special teams.
01:27If they keep six,
01:29there's a world where maybe both of those guys
01:31end up kind of getting the short end of the stick.
01:34And I think that becomes a reality
01:36if they keep four quarterbacks.
01:38There's going to be a tax.
01:39If they decide to keep four quarterbacks,
01:42there's a four quarterback tax.
01:44And that means one of these position groups
01:46loses a player.
01:47Well, I think it's going to be the tight end room
01:48because outside of Blake Whitehart
01:52and Harold Fannin Jr.,
01:54not a lot in that room.
01:55No love for Carson Ryan.
01:59Seventh round pick and those get cut.
02:00But I thought he's been deployed,
02:03at least in what I've seen out of practices in camp,
02:05in a number of ways,
02:07kind of as a blocker or receiver.
02:09They've had him play some fullback.
02:13I agree.
02:14He's an end of the roster.
02:16You think they might only keep two tight ends,
02:18though, on this initial 53?
02:20I think there's a chance,
02:21and then they go get a third tight end
02:23on the waiver line.
02:24And that's probably especially true
02:25if Michael Burton makes the team outright
02:28as a fullback.
02:29If you're keeping a fullback,
02:30is that a fourth running back?
02:33Is that a third tight end?
02:34Well, they may not be able to keep a fullback
02:35if they keep four quarterbacks,
02:36when you talk about the tax that you have with that.
02:40Your depth on the offensive line
02:43is something that needs to be looked at.
02:46There's going to be a big cut there today, Daryl,
02:48because I think there's, like,
02:49Zach's inter,
02:50that's a third-round pick a couple years ago.
02:52KT Leveston is a guy that you went out
02:54and traded for last year,
02:57and then he was a monstrosity
02:59and a meltdown at tackle,
03:01and now you tried to move him in guard.
03:02So does the versatility win out?
03:04And then they put him back outside again.
03:05And then it went poorly again.
03:07So, like, does the versatility win out there?
03:10And maybe they just try to develop him
03:11because he kind of can play a bunch of different spots?
03:14Or does Zach make the roster
03:16because he's a higher draft pick?
03:17Like, somebody's getting cut there.
03:19Yeah, but I don't consider him versatile
03:21because you actually have to be good
03:22at something to be versatile.
03:23Well, that was the Cam Irving thing.
03:24He could play all five positions
03:26on the offensive line.
03:27Just none of them well.
03:28Yeah, like, so could I, technically.
03:31Like, you could put me out there.
03:32I'm going to end up on my back
03:34every single time,
03:35and that's effectively what watching Cam Irving
03:38play football for the Browns was.
03:39The quintessential jack-of-all-trades,
03:41master of none.
03:42That's what it was like to watch.
03:44You know, the secondary is
03:48there's going to be some tough calls there,
03:51especially at corner.
03:55Defensive line,
03:57there's going to be tough calls there.
03:59So, like, this is a tough day.
04:01And, yes, I do believe Todd Munkin
04:03when he says that,
04:05to your question,
04:06yeah, I do believe he's being sincere
04:08when he says,
04:09I wish I could keep everybody.
04:10No, I agree,
04:10because Todd loves football.
04:12You know, at the end of the day,
04:13and he's even spoken to the fact
04:15that, you know,
04:16it's an unfortunate day
04:17and it's an unfortunate situation.
04:19All right, here we go.
04:19Yeah, let's play a game here.
04:21I got my flip card in my hand here
04:23from the Patriots game, okay?
04:25Give me the player
04:26that Todd Munkin does not want to keep
04:28since you went there.
04:30Oh, come on, stop it.
04:32No, you got to give me the player.
04:34I lumped him in.
04:35Unfortunately, probably a lot of them
04:37got cut yesterday, all right?
04:39The bottom of the roster guys
04:41that never stood a chance,
04:42that were there to be camp bodies.
04:44Michael, I'm not letting him
04:44filler buster this.
04:45I'm not doing it.
04:46I'm not naming a name.
04:47That Todd Munkin does not want to keep.
04:50I'm pleading the fifth.
04:51Since you had to drop the,
04:53yeah, but does he really
04:54want to keep everybody?
04:57Because you know there's a guy
04:58that he just doesn't believe
04:59has any good.
05:00And in the back of his mind,
05:02he's like, okay,
05:03at least this guy's out of the equation.
05:05If you've ever been around
05:06any sports team at any level,
05:10there's a guy that you want to get rid of.
05:12It's just the honest truth.
05:14I got a guy.
05:15I have a guy.
05:16I found him.
05:18And he's a draft pick this year.
05:20Oh, I was going to say,
05:21you can't say the starting quarterback.
05:23No.
05:24Although the thought did cross my mind.
05:27Joe Royer didn't even show up
05:29for training camp.
05:30Yeah.
05:30What's going on with that?
05:32And everybody keeps asking
05:33and there's no answers given
05:35on that accord.
05:36It is very strange
05:38because that was a fifth round draft pick.
05:41And remember,
05:42everybody was saying like,
05:44they're going to draft a tight end.
05:45It's possible they're going to draft too.
05:46And they did.
05:47I just don't think a lot of people expected
05:49that it was going to take
05:50till round five and round seven.
05:51But like,
05:52Joe Royer was going to be tight end too
05:54of this thing.
05:55He was going to be right behind
05:57Harold Fannin Jr.
05:58Yeah.
05:58He was supposed to be in front of Blake Whitehart.
06:00By the way,
06:01I think that,
06:01but here's Todd Munkin.
06:03The Royer question came up again yesterday.
06:06Do you expect Joe Royer to play for the team this year?
06:08What's that?
06:09Do you expect Joe Royer to play for the team this year?
06:12Oh,
06:12I'm not going to comment on that.
06:14I mean,
06:15it is the great mystery of training camp this year.
06:18Where's Waldo?
06:20Where's Joe Royer?
06:22Yeah.
06:23I mean,
06:24I'm sure you can find some things out
06:26by using Google,
06:27but that's,
06:28you know,
06:29there's got to be some speculation.
06:31There's got to be some list
06:32that they could put him on,
06:33right?
06:34Like did not report.
06:35Yeah.
06:36They did not report list.
06:37Put them on there.
06:38Okay.
06:38He doesn't count towards the 53 next.
06:41Like he,
06:42unfortunately,
06:42and it is personal matter.
06:44So who knows what's going on with them,
06:46but he hasn't been here.
06:47And it's like,
06:48you miss your whole rookie training camp.
06:50Even if he showed up today,
06:51like he's not going to really be all too useful to the Browns because he's missed everything.
06:57Like they,
06:58they went through those eight days of installs where that's what they did.
07:01They installed Munkins offense.
07:02Like you missed all of that.
07:04It's going to be really hard for him to catch up.
07:06And even if he does show up sometime soon,
07:08he's going to be behind the eight ball this year.
07:11Darrell,
07:11what's the biggest question you have going into roster cut down day?
07:16If you,
07:16if you had to just have,
07:18have one question,
07:19I think I know what you're going to say depth.
07:22Okay.
07:22That's not what I thought you were going to say depth.
07:24I mean,
07:26we saw throughout the preseason.
07:28Now the positive is the last two preseason games,
07:32it was a little better in the second half.
07:34Right.
07:36But no depth.
07:37And I,
07:37and I,
07:38and it's not just depth at a specific position to me,
07:41it's depth across the board.
07:43I feel like this roster pretty good from a starting standpoint,
07:50even offensive line.
07:51And there's questions there with the,
07:53the start of the offensive line.
07:54I mean,
07:54look,
07:54we learned yesterday.
07:56How about Todd Munkin yesterday?
07:59The,
07:59the right guard situation when he,
08:05you know,
08:05we thought the offensive line was set last week.
08:08Yeah.
08:08We thought was going to be the right guard and Titus Howard was going to be
08:13the right tackle.
08:14But then yesterday,
08:15Todd Munkin kind of walks that back.
08:17And I think they're really impressed with what they've seen out of Austin
08:21Barber,
08:21the tackle that they drafted from Florida.
08:24They moved him on the inside and they liked Barber coming out.
08:28Remember they,
08:28they,
08:29they traded back into day two to snag him before that third round ended.
08:34Like they wanted to make sure they left night two with Austin Barber.
08:39And I think he's impressed them a ton throughout this camp.
08:43And then the preseason,
08:44and there's a chance that he could go from college football,
08:49left tackle to third round pick.
08:51Usually those are developmental guys to starting right guard for the Browns.
08:55And it's like,
08:56he had some highlight worthy pancake blocks in that last preseason game
09:01against new England.
09:02Like he's road grading people out there.
09:05Third round picks for the Browns are not developmental prospects.
09:08Usually they're starters.
09:10Let like,
09:10let's be very clear about that.
09:11Okay.
09:12This was Munkin surprising comment yesterday regarding all of the sudden we,
09:19we,
09:19we had,
09:20we still have a competition at right guard.
09:21What a great job he's done playing,
09:24starting a tackle,
09:25then going to guard.
09:26And I think he's only going to continue,
09:28continue to get better.
09:29I've been very pleased with him.
09:31He takes coaching.
09:32There was a screen that we ran during the game that the week before,
09:36uh,
09:36when it got caught,
09:38he was a little bit casual down the field,
09:39not accelerating his feet.
09:41And you saw it in the game the other night,
09:42he accelerated and ran through the defender to get out the way on the
09:46defender and,
09:47and did a great job.
09:48So he certainly takes coaching,
09:50uh,
09:50from the meeting room,
09:52from his past experiences to the field.
09:54I,
09:55again,
09:55I,
09:55I love our depth there.
09:56Again,
09:57I think that Tevin has the advantage,
10:00obviously as being the veteran player,
10:01but we still have this week.
10:03We still have today and a few practices to really kind of finalize.
10:07Um,
10:08I would give Tevin the lean,
10:09but I don't think it's,
10:10it's done yet.
10:11I did a double take when he said that yesterday.
10:13I did,
10:14uh,
10:15because I was convinced that if there was anything,
10:18anything that was absolutely settled,
10:21uh,
10:23it was like the offensive line,
10:24the starting five was set.
10:25He said it,
10:26Daryl.
10:26He said it last week that he had to,
10:28he was asked directly,
10:29is that going to be your starting five up front?
10:31And he said,
10:32I anticipate that that's going to be the fight.
10:34So obviously himself an hour.
10:36So some wiggle room there with saying that,
10:38but,
10:38but he was anticipating it.
10:40It's obviously changed his mind.
10:42It's obvious.
10:42They like what they've seen week over week from Barber in his development,
10:47where he's taking,
10:48and that's why I do like Todd because he gives us right there,
10:51a tangible thing that he saw.
10:53There was a coaching moment that they saw on the tape for Barber.
10:56He improved on it that next week in a game.
10:59And now they want to give them an opportunity.
11:01Like,
11:02I think that's a healthy thing for the organization,
11:04really.
