00:00I mean, I think we saw the birth of the Browns starting quarterback last night.
00:03No, is that right?
00:04At least it was fun.
00:05We had fun watching football.
00:07Yeah, I was actually, I think that really is, you know,
00:09I can't remember which guest we had on yesterday,
00:11but I asked like, what is good?
00:13It might've been James Palmer.
00:14What is a good preseason game look like to you from the Cleveland side?
00:19I'll take 37 points, a bunch of wild plays and a pretty easy night at the office.
00:24Much better than the first two games that we watched in preseason football,
00:26where we just got to, especially the second half's just got taken to the cleaners.
00:30Yeah, that was fun.
00:30It was enjoyable.
00:31At the entire time, I just kept reminding myself, preseason football is a lie.
00:35Preseason football is a lie.
00:36Preseason football is a lie.
00:37And I just had to live with that.
00:38I do think that's the most interesting thing about preseason games,
00:41specifically one where very few players of consequence are starting, right?
00:46Or even playing is we all kind of go in knowing, you know, this is a glorified UFL game.
00:53It's important for these guys, but let's not go too far.
00:58Within 30 seconds of the first touchdown, I saw the take, maybe we shouldn't be sleeping
01:02on Dylan Gabriel.
01:03People were losing their minds.
01:05By the way, God bless him.
01:06I hope you enjoyed it.
01:07I got a coach of his text this morning that I can only assume was some sort of victory lap
01:11on the Dylan Gabriel behalf.
01:13And it's like, Gabriel had a good game last year in the preseason, the game against the Rams.
01:16Like he can do this.
01:18And especially when you're backups versus backups, this is when Dylan's supposed to shine.
01:22He had a good college career.
01:23I don't know if people remember that or not.
01:24He was a good football player in college.
01:26Yeah.
01:26I think if you want to say Dylan Gabriel looked like he belonged at the NFL last year or last
01:31night, I don't really disagree with you.
01:33I've never doubted that.
01:35I think he's going to be a long time NFL backup.
01:38I think the, the only real part of Dylan that I maybe resented last year was the way that
01:44the organization just treated him like something he wasn't, which is starting material as if
01:48he was just awarded that job last year and given it that job.
01:51And yeah, that, that's the part that infuriated myself as well.
01:54But like, it's interesting at one point, maybe like a month or two ago, you'd made the
01:58proclamation that Dylan would become an, we'd start to feel empathy towards Dylan Gabriel.
02:03You know, there'd be a sense of, oh, that, that poor Dylan, you know, he's not, he's just
02:07not treated right throughout this entire process.
02:10Last night helped out that cause.
02:12That's what I'd say about last night.
02:14So here's the thing.
02:14Uh, I thought he looked like a NFL quarterback should look like against backups and guys
02:20that might work at FedEx in a couple of weeks.
02:22Yeah.
02:22So I, I like there's, I, there's only so much credit I can give for their performance.
02:26Dylan, the person I think earned a lot of my trust, not trust, uh, admiration last night
02:32because the way that he handled stuff, there were times last year where, where Dylan had
02:38kind of a weird standoffishness.
02:39Yeah, I'm a competitor, not an entertainer.
02:43That line that was clearly directed at your door.
02:45Even, even the wrist up kind of thing where he didn't do it when everyone else in the
02:49rookie class did.
02:50So, and listen, a lot of that were gleaming from small glimpses.
02:53It doesn't mean that that was the truth, but that's the way it came off.
02:56I thought of quarterbacks who have the right to feel jilted in one way or another.
03:01I think it's Dylan Gabriel one into Sean Watson, nothing for the way Dylan handled the talk
03:07about, uh, whether he felt it was unfair or not last night about the stress of potentially
03:13making the team.
03:13That's the league for you.
03:15I know what I'm about and got a good head on my shoulders.
03:17I take pride in that.
03:18And, you know, I went into this game a certain way, of course, it is what it is.
03:22And he also mentioned that like, yeah, it was, you know, I don't know if I can't remember
03:26now.
03:26I can't remember the darn word that he said, whether it was, it wasn't stressful, but that's
03:29on the paper.
03:30So it's in my head.
03:31Uh, but where he was like, he admitted some frustration to it, but he's like frustrating, you know, that is,
03:36you know, this is what it is.
03:38And he said frustrating.
03:38And then maybe maddening was the other word that he used.
03:40And so it was like, I thought he handled that in a way where he spoke from his emotion.
03:44I think he spoke what he feels without being outwardly, you know, whining about it.
03:50Like I really, well, well done for him for, I think being, having a very human moment when
03:55players show me their humanity.
03:58Um, and, and it feels real, which is what Dylan felt like last night.
04:02That, that means more for me for the third or fourth guy on the depth chart than, uh,
04:06even what is it?
04:07Three tutties and 186 yards passing.
04:10Well, he also explained to, and I think maybe this is just his mindset evolving.
04:13He was, he had a, and he credited the staffer that did this for him.
04:16Uh, but he said, he's like, I looked at it as I got three plays a day, essentially, uh,
04:21three to five plays a day, but throughout the course of a week, it's going to add up to
04:24about 25 plays, which is really half of a game.
04:27And so on Sunday, when we look at all the plays and do all the tape, I got half of
04:30a
04:30game in order for them to really look at.
04:32So if I have three plays in a day, two of them are run plays and one's a throwaway, I'm
04:36going to look at the day.
04:37Like maybe that wasn't the greatest, but I have things on tape.
04:40I have things I can look at and I can grow from.
04:42And I, I just, I, I appreciated his approach, but in saying all that, it was just preseason
04:48football and preseason football is a lie.
04:50A lot of the time.
04:51Well, and I actually think what's funny about how the quarterbacks played last night is they
04:55perfectly approximated what you're going to get and why they're here, right?
05:01Dylan Gabriel was steady.
05:03He made quick decisions.
05:04He made a couple of nice throws, but he was just kind of steady and he kind of ran the
05:09offense in a steady fashion.
05:10And he just didn't try and force anything.
05:12Whereas tail and green was one foot to disaster and then one foot to genius.
05:17And it's like, all right, so you're betting on the relative floor of Dylan Gabriel versus
05:22the idea of a very high ceiling, whatever that means with tail and green.
05:26Green's legs were just so, it was so evident and so obvious.
05:29And it was one of those, he almost hit like the turbo jets and just kind of just shut off.
05:34He was a lot of fun.
05:34I had a lot of fun watching him play.
05:36I thought a lot of it was reckless.
05:38I don't know that a lot of it can translate very well, but I had a lot of fun watching
05:41it.
05:41Yeah, I do.
05:41So I think that, you know, everybody's tried to make it of like, well, who could pass through
05:45waivers?
05:46I don't think you're getting either Gabriel or green.
05:48I think that's the resounding thought, which is funny because we had that clip yesterday
05:52around the six o'clock hour and we went through that scenario, right?
05:55Of like, I think the conclusion we came to then was I don't think we're getting either
05:58one through waivers and how do you maneuver through this?
06:00And people last night are like, oh, freezing cold takes.
06:03You guys, what do you know?
06:04What was true yesterday is true today.
06:07Yeah, you might end up trading Dylan Gabriel, but I don't think you're getting either one
06:10of them through waivers.
06:11So what exactly are you going to do here?
06:13Yeah.
06:13I mean, I listen, if somebody comes along and offers a another tight end for you, right?
06:18A pass catching guy for either guy, I think you have to do it if you're the Browns.
06:22I guess the way I came away thinking is if, if you had an established starting quarterback
06:28or a guy that I was pretty sure was going to start for all 18 weeks, and then that was
06:33it.
06:34I, and then, so then you have your backup and this is your definitive backup and he'll be
06:38the backup for 18 weeks.
06:39I would have no problem just kind of hiding Dylan Gabriel, hiding Talon Green as your
06:45developmental third piece.
06:47The problem is the likelihood of you playing three quarterbacks this year is immense and
06:53the likelihood of it happening quicker than we want it to is also pretty significant.
06:57Yeah.
06:57You can't throw Talon Green out in a game right now.
06:59And that's why I kind of think like if, if I, if you told me Talon Green, I mean, outside
07:03of like, you know, gadget plays or whatever you want that way.
07:06But if you said Talon Green won't see the field until week, uh, so till game 16, I would
07:10probably be willing to err on the side of Talon Green.
07:13I think there's a decent chance QB three hits the field in week 10.
07:16So I, I do think last night ended up with me being like, all right, let's keep Dylan Gabriel
07:21here.
07:21How does he get there week 10?
07:23Well, I think, uh, Deshaun has Deshaun for two weeks and then you get me answer.
07:27Well, I was trying to figure it out for you.
07:29I'm fine.
07:29It's fine.
07:30I just, I just mess with you.
07:31No, you're fine.
07:32Uh, Deshaun for two weeks and then Shador goes in and I don't think, I think when Deshaun
07:36loses his job after the first two weeks, I think he, I don't, I think he goes to the
07:41back of the roster.
07:42I don't think he goes to the backup spot and that's where I think Dylan gets elevated
07:45or, or QB three gets elevated.
07:47So in this instance, Shador gets eight weeks is what you're saying.
07:50Uh, well, I'm, I'm, I'm planning for injury in that case.
07:52I don't think Shador is going to get benched after eight weeks.
07:54I just think, I think the idea that you're going to be on QB two by week three probably tells
07:59you, Hey, cause again, I don't, I think once Deshaun is done after the first two weeks,
08:04there is no way you can go back to him.
08:07You can't have him as the backup.
08:08You can't possibly do this also kind of bakes into why I've had this, this belief now that's
08:12existed all week long about the idea that Deshaun will get eight games or so, or he's
08:16going to have more games than the two week, uh, stretch that people want to want to put
08:20out there is because, because of what you're laying out.
08:22Like if you, if you're a really quick hook on Deshaun, yes, it gives Shador a chance for
08:27more games, obviously, but then you have to have a good plan three and back of that.
08:30Or you just understand what I've accepted in that point of that.
08:33You're just tanking.
08:33You're trying to lose as many games as what it is again.
08:35I I'm going out of my way.
08:37Why are, why are we saying tanking on a football Friday?
08:40I go out of my way to now say the T word.
08:42Can you at least wait until week one to say the T word?
08:45I wouldn't even give you like the lead up to week one.
08:47That's like, that's like five shows.
08:49No, this is, no, this is an indicatorship.
08:52I can tell you, I'm going to say whatever I want to say.
08:53I want to say more of a compromise is more of negotiations here.
08:56This is more the United nations.
08:58Yeah.
08:59What do I get in return for this compromise?
09:02My undying love and respect.
09:03I don't believe it.
09:04And maybe, maybe I don't believe it.
09:06You know what?
09:06I will do the future considerations.
09:08Yeah.
09:09Meaning one time you just get to ask me in the future, can you not mess with me right
09:13now?
09:13And I will consider it.
