Identification tags and bones: How experts are identifying WWII soldiers found in the Danube

Two Wehrmacht soldiers and a WWII motorcycle were recovered from the Danube in Budapest. Now, experts are trying to identify the soldiers using their military identity tags. Euronews spoke to those involved about the painstaking work of putting names to the remains.

00:03A relic from World War II that everyone has been talking about for weeks.
00:07This motorcycle has laid in the mud of the Danube for more than 80 years.
00:12Low water levels in Budapest have exposed the wreckage.
00:16Euronews returned to the site of the discovery.
00:18Here there were many trimmer vehicles from the last time of the war in Budapest.
00:25And these trimmer were all over here, directly after the war.
00:31And then later, these fels came on.
00:35Fighting raged around Budapest for 102 days in 1945.
00:40Tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians died.
00:43To commemorate the battles for Budapest,
00:45the motorcycle recovered from the Danube will later be part of an exhibition.
01:14What the mud had preserved over decades is now becoming visible piece by piece,
01:18In addition to the motorcycle, there is also equipment and military identity tags belonging to two soldiers.
01:25The camps were taken off and delivered into the depot,
01:29also in the greatest soldiers of the army in Ungarn,
01:34in the Sammelfliethof in Gurdjörg.
01:36The camps were cleaned up,
01:38were taken off anthropologically,
01:40and then in October or November
01:43were invited to the other soldiers in this year.
01:46Until then, the experts are trying to find out more about the two men.
