00:01What we do know is this all unfolded just after 6 o'clock yesterday morning south of
00:07Perth CBD when police established two crime scenes. The first, a home where the body of
00:13a 35-year-old woman was found. Police have now said they believe that is the boy's mother.
00:18The second was some 600 metres away along a major road where a 12-year-old girl was
00:24found with injuries. She was treated first by passers-by, police say, and then by paramedics
00:31and she was taken to hospital. Police say they believe the woman who died was the boy's mum.
00:38The younger girl is his sister and that they believe that he had stabbed both of them.
00:45The younger sister had managed to escape from the home at some point during that incident,
00:50they said, to seek help and she remains in hospital. This morning police say she is receiving
00:57medical treatment and support. The latest we have on her condition is that she was serious
01:03but stable yesterday. The key development this morning is that police have confirmed they've
01:07now laid charges against the 16-year-old boy. As you say, one count of murder believed to relate
01:13to his mother and one count of attempt to kill unlawfully relating to his sister. We can't
01:20name the boy, his family or even the specifics of where they live because of restrictions under
01:27WA law but this will be a story that will continue to unfold today. We're expecting authorities to
01:35be questioned about their level of involvement in this case and we'll bring all of that to you as
01:40well as any developments from when this boy appears in the Perth Children's Court, which is expected
01:45today as well.
