00:0211 people have been charged, including six minors, after joggers found the 17-year-old
00:07wrapped in plastic and zip-tied in bushland here at Palaranda on July 18.
00:12Yesterday in Townsville Magistrates Court, two co-accused applied for bail, including
00:17the biological mother of the 17-year-old.
00:20Police Prosecutor Alicia Lawson said the alleged assault started after the mother of the boy
00:25made false allegations against the child that he was a pedophile.
00:28The court had previously heard a social event turned aggressive after the mother made that
00:33allegation and that the boy was allegedly assaulted at a house in Heatley.
00:38Police alleged that the boy was then crawling to try and escape the assault, but police alleged
00:44that the assault continued on the street outside.
00:47One of the co-accused allegedly made a phone call which led to more people turning up at
00:52the scene and the assault continued.
00:54He was then, police allege, wrapped in plastic with his legs zip-tied, transported in the
00:59boot of a vehicle and left in bushland here for up to four or five hours until he was found.
01:06Police Prosecutor Miss Lawson alleges that the mother was actively engaged in the assault.
01:12She says that the mother watched while her son was beaten with metal rods and joked, encouraged
01:19those carrying out the assault, taunted him and made comments that he deserved it.
01:25Miss Lawson said the 17-year-old allegedly told police that he watched his mother laugh
01:30as people beat him with a metal rod.
01:33The mother's lawyer, Michaela Ward, presented a different series of events of what happened
01:38on that night.
01:39According to the mother, she asked her son to leave the address, watched him leave and then
01:45she herself went to bed.
01:48Magistrate Stephen Mosh said the alleged offending was incomprehensible and reprehensible and he
01:53denied bail for the mother.
01:55Three more of the co-accused will have their matters heard in Townsville Magistrates Court
02:00later today.
