00:00And no one would have expected this Sam Darnold career, which has been storybook, to say the least.
00:06He goes from, I honestly thought when he was getting drafted, he was going to be a superstar out of USC.
00:12And then I was like, all right, I'm completely wrong because he was horrible with the Jets.
00:15But now everybody that played for the Jets, you kind of have to put an asterisk by their name
00:18because it seems like guys emerge from there and end up being good, just like Sam.
00:23But he ended up going to the Panthers and then backed up San Francisco, goes to Minnesota.
00:28For some reason, the Vikings are like, nah, we don't need you.
00:31He goes to Seattle.
00:32And man, this has just made all the difference here.
00:35I mean, Darnold has a lot of people to thank for this.
00:38Also, a side story to this, he's got to thank Pete Carroll, right?
00:41Pete Carroll for getting Geno Smith out of Seattle.
00:43If that doesn't happen, I don't know.
00:45I mean, Sam Darnold may not be playing in the Super Bowl this week.
00:49Yeah, I think you have a good point there.
00:51I don't know what the market would have looked like for him if, you know, Geno Smith was still in Seattle.
00:55Maybe the Raiders would be interested in him, but we all know that Sam Darnold wouldn't have been able to carry the Raiders to a Super Bowl.
01:01Noah on that roster was very bad there in Las Vegas.
01:04So I think this is an amazing story.
01:06And especially the fact that he gets a chance to play the Patriots, who he famously had that game where he was seeing ghosts against them on Monday Night Football back in 2019.
01:14So this is kind of the ultimate redemption arc.
01:16So many teams have given up on Sam Darnold, even the Vikings, who said, yeah, we're going to roll with J.J. McCarthy, even though you got us 14 wins last year.
01:23Now Darnold's the first quarterback, or only the second quarterback in NFL history, along with Tom Brady, to win 14 games in back-to-back seasons.
01:31Now he's playing in a Super Bowl.
01:33He's playing at a very high level, and he's really established himself as a rock-solid starting quarterback.
01:38Just one of the better comeback stories we'll see, and it's why quarterbacks moving forward are going to continue to get second chances when they have the talent.
01:45Because in those circumstances like Darnold had with the Jets, it's really not on him.
01:49It was on the coaching staff not getting enough out of him.
01:51Seattle and Clint Kubiak have certainly done that.
01:53Thanks for listening.
01:55Let's see.
01:56Let's see.
