00:00Get ready for the coldest air of the season so far later this week.
00:03And I'm talking AccuWeather Real Field temperatures down to even 55 degrees below zero,
00:08somewhere like Duluth, Minnesota.
00:09That is dangerous cold.
00:11But even all the way down to Oklahoma City, we're going to see temperatures 10 to 20 degrees
00:15below our historical average.
00:17So where we should be this time of year.
00:19Let's put some numbers to this to give you a little bit more context.
00:21And then we'll talk about how we're in this situation.
00:23So let's use Minneapolis as an example.
00:26The coldest you've gotten so far this season is 11 below zero.
00:31Thursday, you're low 20 degrees below zero.
00:33And then you're high Friday, 10 degrees below zero.
00:35But it's not just the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes.
00:38Somewhere like Pittsburgh in the Northeast, well, you've gotten down to the single digits
00:42already.
00:42But Friday, you're low, one below zero.
00:45And then Saturday, you're low single digits high in the teens.
00:49Okay, so how do we get here?
00:50Well, we're still to start out the week in the same pattern we were in last week.
00:54Round after round of Arctic air, round after round of clipper systems, bringing a general
00:59one to three inches of snow from the Dakotas over into places like Michigan and the Great
01:04Lakes, then ultimately into the Northeast, especially as lake effect snow is then triggered,
01:08where we could see up to 18 inches with the heaviest snow bands.
01:11But Wednesday, the pattern totally shifts.
01:14Instead of little dips of the jet stream, we see a much bigger dip.
01:18So on this map, the lighter shades of purple, that's colder air.
01:22We've already been there.
01:23But the dark shades of purple, that's the coldest air.
01:27And we get into that Thursday, Friday, to start off the weekend, when we also are watching
01:32for that impactful snow and ice storm.
