00:00Going back through being coached, Joe, and I'm sure you're probably the same,
00:03from Little League Baseball to high school baseball to college baseball
00:07to football to basketball, whatever, a lot of times we ran into a coach
00:10who coached us very hard.
00:12And sometimes at 14, 15, 16, and 17, your feelings were hurt
00:17in the name of trying to wake you up and make you a better player
00:20or more voted, motivated.
00:22And yes, coaches have said ridiculous things to me in my career,
00:25but I always looked at it as like a badge of honor.
00:28Like, you know what?
00:28He's going to try to tear you down only to build yourself back up.
00:31That's not the case for Pittsburgh here.
00:33Can you imagine playing for a coach, Joe, that told you,
00:36I don't like you as a player, but I let you date my son.
00:40Or how about this one here?
00:41Every night I lay in bed, I want to kill myself because of you.
00:45Probably taken out of context, but it's just the changing of the guard.
00:48You can't coach these athletes the same way you coached even 20 years ago.
00:52They will end up suing you.
00:54Joe, if I had a cup of coffee for every time a coach told me, like,
00:57you're slow, you can't get it done.
00:59I'll put you on the bench faster than your head would spin.
01:01I don't think you're going to start next week.
01:03Your job is up for grabs.
01:05Oh, no, let me sue that coach.
01:07You can't coach these kids anywhere near being at a level of competition
01:10that really gets in their personal space.
01:13I'm talking right here.
01:13As a coach, coaches probably have told you that before.
01:15Like, man, you are the dumbest player I've ever met,
01:18but you're still a pretty good kid.
01:19Oh, I can't go to practice tomorrow.
01:22How many national championships does Pitt women's basketball have, Donnie?
01:28Oh, that's right.
01:30Yeah, they don't.
01:31You know how many classes Gino Anarema over at UConn has had?
01:36And do you know over the years how many times he's been sued by a group of six players
01:42because, ooh, he coached me up too hard?
01:44Yeah, zero.
01:46But, well, one also happens to have more national championships
01:49than you care to shake a stick at.
01:51And the other one, yeah, nobody even realized has a team, Donnie.
01:55There is a big discrepancy between coaching the elite of the elite
02:01and then coaching what they've got going on over at Pitt.
02:04I think that goes a long way as to why one program is getting sued
02:09and another is winning national championships.
