00:00Today's top spread lines brought to you right here on the early line on the Sports Grid Network.
00:04Donnie writes out along with Joe Ranieri, the hottest games that you need to know about tonight in both collegiate
00:08basketball and also in the association.
00:10Let's get down to the SEC, Joe, where it just means more.
00:14Florida versus Georgia.
00:15Look at this overnight line.
00:17Six and a half as a favorite towards Florida.
00:19Joe, I'm seeing every single outlet right now sitting at minus nine and a half as a favorite to the
00:23road team, the Florida Gators.
00:25And a total of 166 and a half, which is also up, Joe, from around 163 and a half overnight.
00:31The one thing you know about Florida, ultra-efficient offense, where Georgia relies on their defense to have turnovers.
00:36The best in the SEC, Florida doesn't turn the basketball over.
00:40Florida likes to rebound the basketball.
00:41Florida will make you pay inside the paint tonight.
00:44But is that enough for a double-digit victory, Joe?
00:46What's your spread line tonight here?
00:48It was good enough the first time they played, Donnie, because they absolutely smoked Georgia the first time they played.
00:54Now they've got to head to Georgia.
00:57And listen, Georgia is a lot of fun to watch.
01:00Why?
01:00They most of the time have absolutely no idea where they're going.
01:04They are running up and down that court and just hoping good things happen because they can't rebound.
01:10They can't protect the rim.
01:11They have no half-court offense.
01:14Everything has got to be in transition.
01:16It's hysterical.
01:17It's like a house on fire and everyone running around here, Donnie.
01:21Florida, listen, they are the best team in the SEC right now.
01:25And I don't even think it's close.
01:26They beat them in Gainesville.
01:28They're going to beat them here tonight in Georgia.
01:30I don't think it's a question of if.
01:32It's just by how many here, Donnie.
01:35And I think Georgia understands that.
01:38Florida.
01:38Ken Palm loves Florida here.
01:40Ranked fifth in their rankings here.
01:41We'll see if they can pick up a victory on the road in SEC play.
01:43Let's go out and take a look at those antelopes tonight of Grand Canyon.
01:47At home hosting New Mexico.
01:49Line overnight, minus one and a half.
01:51Line this morning, Joe.
01:52Still minus one and a half as a favorite towards the home team.
01:54Grand Canyon, a total.
01:56Listen, at 149 and a half.
01:58The Lopes are at home.
01:59Did they get the victory tonight, Joe?
02:00And if they do, what's your spread line here?
02:03Big Mountain West game here tonight, Donnie.
02:05And quite honestly, might be.
02:07And I know it's going to be a little late for you.
02:09But this might be the game of the night here.
02:12I mean, both of these teams, both the pit and where Grand Canyon plays.
02:17And this game's at Grand Canyon.
02:19It's an amazing court.
02:20Amazing fan bases that come out and support their team.
02:24Go figure here, Donnie.
02:25And this is going to be a good one.
02:27I mean, New Mexico is going to bring the defense.
02:30Grand Canyon also can shoot you out of the building.
02:34Something has got to give here, Donnie.
02:36I think this is quietly.
02:37And look at the spread.
02:38It can tell you it's a pick-em price.
02:40It's a pick-em price for a reason.
02:42This is going to come down to the wire.
02:44Who has the ball last?
02:45Who makes that final shot?
02:47This is the game of the night and worth watching.
02:50How about this one?
02:50Back to the SEC, Joe.
02:52Missouri taking on Texas A&M.
02:54Six and a half overnight numbers.
02:55Appears seven and a half this morning as a favorite to Texas A&M.
02:58And a total of 156 and a half.
03:00When I look at matchups here, I think it's a perfect matchup for Texas A&M.
03:04You look at Texas A&M's defense here in SEC play.
03:06Number two overall in efficiency here.
03:08But also more importantly, Joe, second at turning your opponent over in SEC competition in Missouri.
03:13Fifteenth out of 16 teams at turning the basketball over.
03:16And also, the worst free throw shooting team in conference play.
03:19It's Missouri at only 67% as a team.
03:22Flip it over to Texas A&M.
03:23The third best three-point shooting team in conference play.
03:26The second most by volume going up against a team that doesn't defend the three and lets you shoot the
03:31three.
03:31For me, Joe, it looks like an A&M night.
03:33But the question is, not will they win, what's that spread line if they can cover tonight?
03:37Styles make fights here, Donnie, right?
03:40And listen, Texas A&M and Buddy Ball has been fantastic.
03:43Nobody saw Texas A&M at this point being 17-6 and 7-3 in the SEC.
03:50Nobody saw that coming four months ago.
03:52But Styles make fights, right?
03:55And the problem is, they're not very good in the paint, which happens to be exactly where Missouri generates a
04:03majority of their points.
04:05And when they can't control the paint, and when teams get down low on them, that's when they have a
04:11problem.
04:11And nobody is better at it than Missouri in the SEC.
04:15They average at least 39 or more points a game, Donnie, in the paint.
04:20That could spell trouble for A&M tonight.
04:23College basketball news, notes, stories, and scores.
04:26We got you covered in this next segment here.
04:28And we started off on the early lineup, and we skipped over a topic on the Pittsburgh Panthers.
04:32You might think about, who was that, Dan Marino back in the day, Tony Dorsett, you know, football, basketball, men's
04:37basketball.
04:37No, it's women's basketball here.
04:39And this isn't necessarily a knock, but just the times are a-changing, as we like to say.
04:43Sure, things aren't like they are in the 40s and 50s.
04:46Heck, even the 80s and 1990s.
04:48Going back through being coached, Joe, and I'm sure you're probably the same, from Little League baseball to high school
04:53baseball to college baseball to football to basketball, whatever, a lot of times we ran into a coach who coached
04:59us very hard.
05:01And sometimes at 14, 15, 16, and 17, your feelings were hurt in the name of trying to wake you
05:07up and make you a better player or more voted, motivated.
05:10And yes, coaches have said ridiculous things to me in my career, but I always looked at it as like
05:15a badge of honor.
05:16Like, you know what, he's going to try to tear you down only to build yourself back up.
05:19That's not the case for Pittsburgh here.
05:21Can you imagine playing for a coach, Joe, that told you, I don't like you as a player, but I
05:27let you date my son.
05:28Or how about this one here?
05:30Every night I lay in bed, I want to kill myself because of you.
05:33Probably taken out of context, but it's just the changing of the guard.
05:36You can't coach these athletes the same way you coached even 20 years ago.
05:41They will end up suing you.
05:42Joe, if I had a cup of coffee for every time a coach told me, like, you're slow, you can't
05:46get it done.
05:47I'll put you on the bench faster than your head would spin.
05:49I don't think you're going to start next week.
05:51Your job is up for grabs.
05:53Oh, no, let me sue that coach.
05:55You can't coach these kids anywhere near being at a level of competition that really gets in their personal space.
06:01I'm telling you right here, as a coach, coaches probably have told you that before.
06:03We're like, man, you are the dumbest player I've ever met, but you're still a pretty good kid.
06:07Oh, I can't go to practice tomorrow.
06:11How many national championships does Pitt women's basketball have, Donnie?
06:17Oh, that's right.
06:18Yeah, they don't.
06:20You know how many classes Gino Anorema over at UConn has had?
06:25And do you know over the years how many times he's been sued by a group of six players because,
06:31ooh, he coached me up too hard?
06:33Uh, yeah, zero.
06:35But, well, one also happens to have more national championships than you care to shake a stick at.
06:39And the other one, yeah, nobody even realized has a team, Donnie.
06:44There is a big discrepancy between coaching the elite of the elite and then coaching what they've got going on
06:52over at Pitt.
06:53I think that goes a long way as to why one program is getting sued and another is winning national
06:59championships.
07:00Look, you can't cross the line and get physical with your players.
07:02You understand that.
07:03But my goodness, I have a little bit of mental toughness at this point for a saying, like, I can't
07:07believe he told me that, like, I'm going to kill myself this team is so bad.
07:11It's like, yeah, coach is a little bit angry over there.
07:12But now you actually get sued for those type of statements here, which perfectly blends into our next situation in
07:18college basketball.
07:19Bob Knight is going to get a statue outside of the arena at Indiana.
07:24So when we talk about coaches that coached you hard and maybe get some lawsuits, imagine Bob Knight, maybe what,
07:3123, 24, 25, 26 years old as a young college coach.
07:35What he would be doing to those players today?
07:37He's getting a statue outside of Indiana, the legendary coach Bob Knight.
07:42Is it a statue of him throwing the chair?
07:45Because that would be clear.
07:46It should be.
07:47It should be a bronze statue of him just flinging the chair at whoever was on the court in that
07:53spot.
07:54Listen, I, you know, Bobby Knight was in an era that, you know, I grew up in as well.
07:59That I had a lot of coaches like him over the years.
08:02Never once did I ever think about suing them for being mean to me.
08:07But I can tell you this, every one of his players, especially at Indiana, Donnie, I mean, as much as
08:14they hated him, they loved that guy.
08:17And really all looked back to him and said, hey, Isaiah Thomas and everybody, that he was a big reason
08:23as the wire became the man I am today.
08:25So a true legend of the game changed the game and a great basketball mind.
08:31By the way, what would be a better statue?
08:33I had maybe multiple throwing the chair across the court and maybe a Neil Reed where he like, you know,
08:36put his arms around his neck and practice at that point.
08:39Two iconic circumstances.
08:40But Bobby Knight, like you might have had a 90-10 there where 10% of the people in Indiana
08:45absolutely hated Bobby Knight.
08:46But 90%, that was a religion to basketball and a love for Bobby Knight.
08:50He gets a statue there for the University of Indiana.
08:53Let's get back to the hardwood last night, Joe.
08:55And as I told the people in the last segment in the NBA, you've got to be kidding me, man.
08:59I had a minus 7.5 with Houston with under 10 seconds to go.
09:02And a meaningless three-point shot went against me.
09:04Lose by the hook.
09:05You'll take that.
09:06Joe told you yesterday, Duke's going to be angry in their basketball game.
09:09They'll handle their business.
09:1070-54, you might think like, yeah, they handled their business.
09:13Joe, tell them what the line was that you got and how it ended.
09:17Yeah, isn't that great?
09:18Look at that.
09:1916.5 is what we had there.
09:21I think it closed at 17, 17.5.
09:24Yeah, and that's what we got because Duke literally took their foot off the gas for about the last minute,
09:32minute and a half of that game.
09:34And it was ole for Pitt to get a meaningless basket at the end there in order to be able
09:40to sneak in and only lose by 16.
09:43Imagine only scoring 54 points, Donnie, and still somehow covering a game.
09:48Unreal.
09:49Court storming down at the Watsko Center last night as the University of Miami knocked off the North Carolina Tar
09:55Heels.
09:55We told you, an impressive comeback performance over the weekend for UNC.
09:59How would that go now going on the road to take on Miami?
10:02They were the much better team, Carolina, on paper.
10:04They should be able to score at will.
10:05They scored 66 points in that game.
10:08Neither team played great offense, but the University of Miami, 75-66 victors, and now improved to 8-3 in
10:14the ACC, a game better than UNC at 7-4.
10:18I don't think UNC ever led that game, Donnie.
10:21I mean, it was close all throughout, but a 1-14 from three-point range in the second half is
10:28what did North Carolina in.
10:30They kept it close for a while, but they just couldn't get that big bucket, Donnie.
10:36And when you go 1-14 on the road, it's going to make it very hard to be able to
10:40come back when you continually are playing from behind, which they were that entire game.
10:46That was the ACC.
10:47We'll shift it over to the Big Ten last night, which saw Purdue go to overtime on the road to
10:51take on Nebraska and beat them, 80-77.
10:54I remember a time, it wasn't so far in the past, Joe, and Nebraska was undefeated.
10:59Now just got hit with their third loss in Big Ten play.
11:02Yeah, no, that's a, it's, what a game, Donnie.
11:05I mean, first of all, Purdue held on, shall we say, to win, because it was 40-24 at the
11:11break.
11:11Purdue absolutely boat raced Nebraska early in Nebraska, but what a different story in that second half.
11:19Nebraska came out firing and then just came up a little short.
11:23Purdue survives in that matchup.
11:25We told you yesterday, it's not a great matchup for Nebraska versus Purdue, but my goodness, they almost pulled off
11:32the, the comeback of the year, but they fell a little short.
11:35Talked about this on Spreadlines, Joe.
11:37Florida, Georgia tonight taking place in Georgia, close to a double-digit favorite for the Florida Gators as they take
11:42their show on the road.
11:44Legitimate chance to cover, Joe.
11:45Fill the people in again on Florida, Georgia.
11:47Yeah, well, it's been nothing but Florida money here, and we've already seen this, right?
11:54We saw Florida already play Georgia and absolutely boat race them here.
11:59Georgia's not a very good team, Donnie.
12:01I mean, they're, they're very athletic.
12:03They're long, they're athletic, but they don't play defense.
12:06They don't defend the rim.
12:08They don't rebound.
12:09All they want to do is get out and run in transition, right, and get easy buckets.
12:13They're the number one-paced team in all of college basketball.
12:17They're my, I would not want to sweat out an under in this game here tonight, Donnie.
12:21I think that was probably the best way to look at it.
12:24You are getting points here tonight, one way or the other.
12:28Most of them are going to be scored by Florida, though.
12:30What a matchup here in the Big East.
12:32It's Connecticut and it's Butler.
12:33Now, Connecticut is on the road here as 11.5-point favorites in the total, Joe, that sits at 144
12:38.5.
12:38But looking at some of the statistics, you're getting the best defense in conference play in UConn versus the worst
12:45defense in conference play as the Butler Bulldogs take the court tonight at a historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
12:51What gives tonight, Joe?
12:5211.5 favor?
12:53Can they get it done?
12:54Oh, they can absolutely get it.
12:56Don't forget, they're coming off of that loss to St. John's here.
12:59So, and Butler just can't get out of its own way.
13:02Like you said, they're playing no defense.
13:03This has got UConn blowout and getting right in a big way all over it.
13:11Quick one here, Joe.
13:12Michigan and Northwestern, 15.5-point road favorite for Michigan taking on Northwestern.
13:18Blowout style?
13:19What do we say today for this one?
13:21Goodness.
13:21Well, Michigan's doing this all year long, Donnie.
13:24It's double-digit favorites against terrible teams.
13:27And what do they do?
13:28They win by 20 points.
13:29I wouldn't be taking the points with Northwestern here.
13:34It's all Michigan tonight.
13:42They had a ski mask on for me and Joe last night.
13:45Stole our winnings in the final seconds.
13:47Not tonight, Joe.
13:48Where are we going?
13:50All right.
13:50So, I'm going to go to the Atlantic Sun, the A Sun here tonight.
13:54In a big matchup between Austin Peay, the Govs, against Queens here tonight.
14:01And listen, Queens is a team that can only defend by fouling.
14:07And that is not great because Austin Peay is one of the best teams at getting to the free throw
14:13line.
14:13They are also, by far, the most disciplined and best team in the A Sun.
14:19Queens is at home, but they have basically gone through a much weaker schedule.
14:24The bottom feeders of that conference, they have beaten.
14:28This is not what they're facing here tonight.
14:31Austin Peay is already 11-1 in league play.
14:34They will run away with the division with this win here tonight.
14:37And I expect them to do it.
14:39At Donnie plus money, they're getting a point and a half.
14:42And they are, by far, the better team here.
