00:06hello australia it is saturday the 29th of august and this is your national weather update for the
00:11week ahead now things are a little bit different i'm out in the field with my second years uh who
00:17are currently studying environmental science so i've just had to film my weekend today um which
00:22means there'll only be a national weather forecast video going up this sunday and then monday when i
00:28get home i'll be doing the state by state uh sort of go around so today we're just going to
00:33look at
00:33the national weather forecast for the week ahead okay this is the current satellite image um you
00:39can see we've got this lovely big sort of cloud band down the south and then a lot of action
00:43over here
00:44in sort of central wa which is leading to some current rainfall over the east we have a high
00:50pressure system the way that it's currently positioned we have these southerly wind flow
00:54which is why it got a little bit chilly uh today down here in the south as that high moves
01:00over we
01:00have some very very very warm weather ahead for the east coast um definitely sort of um yeah quite quite
01:11warm for the time of year that we're in um but we also have a front moving through on about
01:15tuesday
01:16so let's have a look at that rainfall breakdown so this is the week saturday to saturday rainfall
01:20accumulation you can see the totals are not very high and i think this is um kind of a good
01:27week
01:27of what we potentially might be seeing ahead as we go into spring we're getting some weather systems
01:32but the totals that it delivers are quite low okay so over here in central wa this is the um
01:38next few
01:39days just with that little system over in the mid um levels of the atmosphere and then down here this
01:46um
01:46in the southeast is a front that arrives sort of later tuesday but then it's also um the jet stream
01:53is sitting quite far north at the moment so that's just delivering quite a few days of sort of showers
01:59towards the end of the week okay we're going to look now my internet's not very good here so i've
02:05had to
02:06put it in a powerpoint uh to work for you guys so this is the current weather warnings so we
02:12have um
02:13sort of marine wind coastal warnings down here in southeast with that southerly flow we still have
02:19the minor um flood watch up in northern victoria from all of that rainfall last week and then we also
02:26have some marine wind warnings here on the coast of queensland okay this is today's rainfall and this
02:33is sunday's you're probably seeing this on sunday so maybe this is sunday's rainfall and you can see
02:37that high pressure system with that mid-latitude uh little sort of um system over there in wa this
02:44is monday and tuesday monday you can see across the whole nation it dries out and is fairly calm
02:50and on tuesday that front comes through down here in the southeast largely missing south australia so
02:56it's mainly concentrated in tassie and in southern victoria bringing some fairly strong winds sort of
03:02gusts of up to about 40 kilometers per hour there uh this is wednesday it sort of moves off we're
03:09getting more showers in the southeast dry mostly you can see there's some really funky patterns
03:14happening here with the mean sea level pressure um and it's taken me a while to sort of dissect
03:19what's going on and i really just think that um we have a quite an active upper atmosphere with where
03:26the jets are sitting at the moment and i think a lot of the models might be capturing it slightly
03:30differently which is why the contours are just a little bit all over the place we're finding it
03:33slightly hard to interpret why those contours are sitting the way they are but largely you know this
03:39is high pressure that's what's being dominated there this uh rainfall is all from that jet sitting a
03:46little bit far northwards okay so that's wednesday and thursday there friday saturday again this is showers
03:53um sort of like between one and sort of five mils that we're going to see friday saturday and sunday
04:00as
04:00well and that's um not really a system moving across that's more just like the jet um sitting up there
04:07with the um a little bit further um north and it usually sits and this down here this is sort
04:15of
04:16the low pressure system which might have a little bit of a trough moving out from it so that's
04:21potentially as well where that rainfall is coming from but as you can see that rainfall is really
04:25light so the totals every day um this is probably our strongest day potential on saturday which is like
04:31five to ten mils in victoria so very yeah like not strong rain which is i suppose good news for
04:39the
04:39north of victoria which has been having flooding weeks and weeks and weeks just continuous you're
04:45getting a break this week the rainfall that's on the way is quite light and scattered okay so that's
04:51the rainfall for this week what i want to show you quickly is the temperatures when i was saying
04:57that really unseasonably warm temperature so here we're looking at gippsland we've got a high on
05:02tuesday and wednesday of 21 degrees that is quite warm for this time of year uh just looking at the
05:09rainfall here you can see that yeah that um sort of tuesday front isn't really bringing anything over
05:15into gippsland and then it's getting those sprinkly showers later on in the week
05:19and here we're looking at lismore which is in northern new south wales uh thursday 31 degrees
05:27friday 29 saturday 32 sunday 31 this is warm this is really really warm for this time of year
05:36to put it into context i've just got pulled up here this is um the 2025 august daily weather
05:44observations because i suppose we're august or into september but yeah the warmest that it got in
05:50august last year was 22 point max is here 27.1 degrees so 32 degrees is quite warm sort of
05:58towards
05:58the end of august start of september so it is yeah is relatively warm of what's coming on the way
06:04um
06:04just back to gippsland here i just want to show you on tuesday this is the strong winds that we're
06:11seeing sort of associated with that front um frost and fog risk is fairly low over the sort of week
06:18sunday we've got frost risk because of that low temperature and then yeah it's fairly clear for the
06:24rest of the week but we're definitely heading in i think we can start to see the beginnings of spring
06:29um as high temperatures start to sort of sit around the like mid teens i don't think we're going to
06:36get a
06:36lot of those sort of low teens max temperature days anymore so yeah i think i think spring is really
06:43well and truly on the way but it's looking to be quite a dry spring okay i'll delve more into
06:49that
06:49when i have time and i'm not uh out here on field trip with my lovely second years and yeah
06:56you'll hear
06:56from me from me on monday okay have a safe week and i'll see you later bye
07:02you
