00:03Hello, it is Monday the 31st of August and this is the weekly weather update for New South Wales
00:07for the first week of spring. There's currently still minor flood warnings down in the south
00:11state in Griffith. This should ease hopefully by tomorrow as there's not much rain coming
00:15for the state this week. All right let's start having a look at that rain story. We have nothing
00:18today as you are under this high. Same for Tuesday, there is a cold front moving through the southeast
00:23that could see some very light showers but unlikely to incur very far into New South Wales. There's a
00:28little bit the remnants of it there on Wednesday and on Thursday another front moves through again
00:33seeing a bit of rainfall down in the ranges. This starts to ease on Friday for New South Wales but
00:38on Saturday a very strong cold front moves through the southeast seeing up to sort of 25 to 50 mils
00:43in the ranges. There is no rain reaching the north of the state however and this remains true for
00:49Sunday as well. So the areas that will see showers unless you're in the ranges will be quite light
00:53showers otherwise nothing at all. Okay with that Saturday front I just want to show the wind fields
01:00with that over in the ranges. So here they are you can see we're going to get some probably strong
01:06marine wind warnings with gusts between 40 to 90 kilometers an hour and that incurs down to the
01:12southeast of the state as well. All right let's talk about the main story for this week though and that
01:16is it is hot like unseasonably hot. It's very unusual to get warm temperatures like this at the start of
01:23spring. So this is Saturday which I've picked but is multiple days of quite strong heat and as you can
01:30see we'll zoom out and just show that there's a very strong insurgence of this tropical heat coming down
01:37quite far south into the state while you have this cold front moving through down the south. So there's
01:42you know sort of two competing systems here that sees a lot of the very strong and warm temperatures
01:47around the north of the state. So Lismore about 33 degrees on that day more rates of similar
01:52temperatures and then it also incurs down along the coast down into Sydney as well. Let's have a look
01:59at Lismore just to sort of paint a picture of those days of multiple heat days building up. You can
02:04see
02:04we really start Wednesday 28 degrees first off I'll point out sorry no rain for the whole week.
02:09Wednesday 28, Thursday 31, Friday 29, Saturday 33, Sunday 28 and then it sort of drops back to more
02:15usual temperatures. So a lot of warm weather on the way. You might see it referred to as a heat
02:20wave
02:21which is technically true if we've got multiple days of persistent unseasonably warm temperatures
02:25that don't relieve themselves at night. However if you look at the minimum temperatures they do sort
02:30of relieve themselves so maybe not quite hitting that heat wave threshold but there's definitely
02:34very warm days coming ahead. Okay so that is our New South Wales update as you can see most of
02:40that
02:40rain is concentrated down in the ranges with very very light showers possible for the southern half
02:45of the state but the main story is lots of heat on the way if you're sort of Sydney upwards.
02:50Have a great week, stay safe and we'll see you next time.
