00:08Stephanie?
00:09Yeah, Chef?
00:10What have we said about texting while on the clock?
00:14Don't do it.
00:15Yeah, your tables need some assistance and you're nowhere to be found.
00:20Good job! You found me!
00:22I just checked on table 47 and they have no water.
00:2544 needs a second round and you haven't even pre-bust any of your section.
00:30What's going on?
00:31Chill, Chef. Take a deep breath.
00:34Okay, you do your job in the kitchen, I will do mine out here.
00:38Worry about yourself. If my tables need me, they know where to find me.
00:42Sure, but isn't your whole job to anticipate the customer's needs?
00:45You're not providing an atmosphere of welcoming service to the customers.
00:48Have you always been such a narc?
00:50This is your last warning. Put your phone away and get to work.
00:55Jeez, okay, okay.
00:57Honestly, Stephanie, what's with the attitude?
00:58Chef, this job is not, like, intellectually stimulating enough for me.
01:05Any high school student could do it, okay?
01:08At this point, I'm just really beyond this.
01:11Now, if I got that promotion to kitchen, that'd be a different story.
01:16We've discussed this. I thought I told you that you have to earn a promotion.
01:21Work towards it, and, you know, we don't do handouts here.
01:24Says the Nepo baby. Everyone knows you got this job through a family friend.
01:29I'm not having this argument with you.
01:31Show us that you can handle the expectations of the workplace, and we'll have that conversation later.
01:37Until then, focus on your tables.
01:39Chef, I have been cooking for my little siblings since I was, like, ten years old.
01:44Okay, my food is really good. Better than yours, probably.
01:48Is that so?
01:49Yeah, you've had the same boring menu for as long as I can remember.
01:52I don't see any of our regulars complaining about it.
01:54You need someone like me to shake things up around here.
01:59Come on, Chef, let me in the kitchen.
02:02Come on, you won't regret it.
02:03This job is so beneath me.
02:06I'm gonna ignore all the unprofessional comments that you just said to me.
02:09Look, it would give me a ton of joy to see you excited about coming into work and providing this
02:16exceptional service.
02:17Look, if you want a promotion, we can talk about that later, but I need you to come in,
02:22go above and beyond for your tables, and just do the work.
02:26Ugh, you're so corporate.
02:29Yeah, well, you just got sat.
02:33That's Mrs. Walters over there.
02:36As in the...?
02:38Yes, as in the Miss Walters, the owner of our restaurant.
02:41She just came in for her weekly lunch with us.
02:43Show us that you can show up for the table.
02:47You know, don't let me down.
02:57I'll show him.
02:58Yeah, by the end of the day, I'll have that promotion.
03:01He'll be out of a job before he knew what hit him.
03:08Well, I'll be...
03:10Miss Walters?
03:12Gosh, it is such a pleasure to serve you today.
03:15Hello, dear.
03:18I'm so sorry to be fangirling.
03:20It is just like being in the presence of a celebrity.
03:24Where are my manners?
03:26It's all right, dear. I don't mind.
03:28You seem very lovely.
03:30Aw, coming from you, that means so much.
03:36This restaurant is like a home to me, you know?
03:39I just adore working here.
03:42My name is Stephanie.
03:43I'll be serving you today.
03:45Anything you need, just ask for Stephanie.
03:48Well, it's nice to meet you, Stephanie.
03:50And I am notorious for being an easy customer, so I won't be needing much from you.
04:01I'm sure you can head back to work there.
04:05You know, it seems like there's some tables that are needing your help.
04:09Oh, them?
04:10Yeah, don't worry about them. They're fine.
04:12Well, they're waving at you, and some of them seem a little bit agitated, honey.
04:20I would love to ask you some questions.
04:22Well, you know, that would be fine for a moment.
04:26I mean, if you're sure they don't need anything.
04:31What inspired the idea for this restaurant?
04:37Well, when I was a little girl, my mom had a book.
04:41Oh my gosh, I was the same way.
04:43I was always, like, cooking up a storm as a kid in the kitchen.
04:47That is wonderful.
04:48I am actually a chef.
04:50This waitressing gig is really just a placeholder until someone recognizes my talent and puts me in the kitchen.
04:57Well, bless your heart, sweetheart. I think that is a good question.
04:59I do actually have a few concerns that I'd like to address with you.
05:03Uh, concerns?
05:06Yeah, so, okay, like the chef here.
05:09He's been alright in the traditional sense, but, well, his recipes are getting kind of stale.
05:17And honestly, his behavior lately has been kind of erratic.
05:22Whatever you're talking about.
05:26Silly me, it's really not my place to say.
05:28Okay, I will be back with a water for you, a menu, unless you'd like some of my personal recommendations.
05:36Oh, I'll just take my usual, thank you.
05:39Soup, right?
05:40That's right.
05:42Okay.
05:42It's just that, um, oh gosh, should I?
05:47Yeah, so the chef has been a bit off his game recently, right?
05:51And I did have some of that soup during pre-shift and it tasted kind of, but you know what?
05:57I am sure it will be fine.
06:00I'll be right back with that soup for you.
06:15Here you are, ma'am.
06:24Oh, it's not good?
06:25What is in this?
06:27It is repulsive.
06:29Oh, I am deeply sorry to hear that.
06:32Like I said, chef has been pretty experimental with his recipes lately.
06:36We are all pretty concerned.
06:39Why don't I take that back to the kitchen for you?
06:41Whip up something better for you, my, for you, myself.
06:43You can stop right there.
06:45You are not taking this back.
06:47This is disgusting.
06:50Hi, sweetie.
06:51Hi, Aunt Lilith.
06:52It's good to see you.
06:53Good to see you.
06:54I'm sorry, Aunt.
06:55Is there something wrong here?
06:58No.
06:58Yes.
06:59It seems to be that your employee is drumming up some tall tales about you,
07:05and she's clearly put something in my soup.
07:08Oh, that is preposterous.
07:12I mean, chef made that soup.
07:15I'm only a server, so I just brought it out to you.
07:19I don't even have access to the kitchen.
07:20This is an old family recipe.
07:22Stephanie.
07:22My sister and I have been making it since we were children.
07:27And my nephew also learned how to make it from his mom.
07:32He's been making it since he was young.
07:34I'm sure that he has not suddenly forgotten how to make it.
07:39I don't even know what to say anymore, Aunt Lilith.
07:42Stephanie has been begging me for a promotion.
07:44And now I'm starting to think that she'd stop at nothing to take my job.
07:48These are ridiculous accusations, okay?
07:52Miss Walters, you cannot possibly believe I would ruin your soup on purpose.
07:56Oh, that is exactly what I believe.
07:59I saw you putting something into it on your way out of the kitchen.
08:05Working at a restaurant is about providing food that is comforting and a heartwarming experience.
08:14It doesn't seem that you are capable of any of that.
08:19Stephanie, you're fired.
08:21Miss Walter!
08:22I don't want to hear it.
08:24Go clock out and go home.
08:29Chef, can't you-
08:30If you had just been patient, I would have taught you everything that I know about the kitchen.
08:34But since you were determined to take the low road, you're out of a job.
08:48I am so sorry about that, Aunt Lilith.
08:50She was on her final warning.
08:52You know what, hun?
08:54There's always gonna be people like that in this world who just only have a hospitable bone in their body.
09:01I don't blame it on you.
09:04Well, speaking of that, I was thinking of adding some more of Grandma's recipes to the menu.
09:10Do you think I could stop over soon and look at the cookbook?
09:13My door is always open.
09:16Tell you what, I'll put on a new soup you haven't tried before.
09:23Wow. Just wow.
09:26That has got to be the best carbonara I have ever had.
09:29Thank you, ma'am. I've been cooking it for years.
09:32Well, clearly, I mean, that was just delicious.
09:35Let me take a look at your application here.
09:40Wait a minute. It says here that you spent time in jail.
09:43Yes, ma'am. That's true.
09:45But I was arrested several years ago and recently just got out and, you know, the person who I was
09:51back then was just much dumber and younger and I'm totally different now.
09:55It was actually in jail that I actually-
09:58Hold up, hold up, hold up. Let me stop you right there.
10:00This is a very high-class, prestigious restaurant, one of the best in the city and unfortunately we can't have
10:06ex-convicts in our kitchen.
10:08I understand. But I really hope you give me a chance.
10:12Ugh, give me a break. I mean, how can I know that I could even trust you? How do I
10:16know you haven't been stealing things while you're here?
10:19Ma'am, the person who I was when I committed that crime is entirely different than who I am now.
10:23For several years I've been growing up, maturing, and I'm just trying my hardest to become a productive member of
10:29society.
10:29Well, you can be a productive member of society somewhere else. People don't change. They just don't, okay?
10:36So get out of my restaurant before I call the police and have them arrest you again.
10:42Yes, ma'am. I'll go. But I really do hope you reconsider.
10:56Oh, hey Debbie. Oh, you saw the new applicant today.
11:00Yes, I did.
11:01And how was he?
11:02Well, his carbonara was the best I've ever had.
11:06That's wonderful!
11:07Yeah, not exactly. I took a look at his application and it turns out that he has a criminal record.
11:13He spent five years in jail.
11:15I mean, I don't even know how that happened. Like, I don't know how he got through the screening process.
11:19But anyway, don't worry about it. I kept an eye on him as he was leaving to make sure he
11:23didn't steal anything.
11:24But you did just say that his carbonara was the best you've ever tasted, yes?
11:30Yes, but Mr. Smith, he has a criminal record.
11:36Okay, well, Debbie, let me tell you a little something about myself.
11:44Many years ago, I was arrested and convicted of robbery. And I spent three years in prison.
11:52Oh my goodness, Mr. Smith, I had no idea that you spent time in jail. I mean, you just don't
11:58strike me as that kind of a person at all.
12:00You see, people can change. I came out of prison a completely different person than I was going in.
12:08To this day, I still teach a class at the local prison on how to cook.
12:12Because I believe that when these prisoners come out of jail, they should have the skills to become productive members
12:18of society.
12:19But there's no way a person can become a productive member of society if they are not given a chance.
12:26And once you've done your time, you can't live the rest of your life in the shadows.
12:29Mr. Smith, I have to be completely honest with you. I'm really saddened that you didn't tell me about your
12:36background.
12:37I don't know that I feel comfortable working for a felon.
12:42Well, uh, Debbie, you actually don't have to work for a felon.
12:47But I will say that I do think that I've been a pretty fair and decent boss to you.
12:52Yeah, you have. But I just don't think people can change that easily. I just don't.
12:56I mean, I bet you're hiding something, aren't you, Mr. Smith?
12:59I'm sorry, what are you saying?
13:00I mean, is this like a front for some illegal, something illegal? Like, are you something drugs?
13:06Hey, alright, Debbie, stop. Right there.
13:08Um, I refuse to be spoken to in that manner in my own restaurant.
13:14I think that you should get your things and go.
13:18Here, in my restaurant, we treat people with kindness and dignity and respect.
13:24Okay, whatever.
13:35Edgar, what are you doing here?
13:37Mr. Smith? What a nice surprise.
13:40Hey.
13:42When did you get out?
13:44A few weeks, actually. And, you know, I've been trying to put your cooking skills to use.
13:48I actually just had an interview at this restaurant.
13:51So you were the applicant this morning.
13:54I heard it didn't go so well.
13:56Wait, how do you know that?
13:59Well, Edgar, this is my restaurant.
14:02And that woman who you spoke to earlier, she's no longer with us.
14:07So, are you still interested in a job?
14:10Yes. Yes, of course.
14:13Thank you so much for taking a chance on me.
14:15I'm not taking a chance at all. I have seen your skills close up.
14:19So, how about this? You'll be here tomorrow morning, 8 a.m. for your first day of work. Yeah?
14:25Yes, Chef.
14:26So, good afternoon, my first day of work.
14:26Yes, after I get.
14:27Good afternoon.
14:27Andy, next time.
14:27Say the video, we're not getting any mismos.
