00:00Immigration officials say more than 1,200 people in the country illegally have been arrested in a major enforcement sweep
00:05across the Atlanta area.
00:07The Department of Homeland Security says 720 of those arrested have either been convicted or charged with crimes, including sex
00:14offenses, assault, domestic violence, drunk driving, and crimes involving children.
00:18The massive undertaking, dubbed Operation Safe Community Atlanta, is part of the Trump administration's expanding immigration crackdown.

00:28We arrested over 1,200 aliens, illegal aliens, out in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
00:36More than half of those people had criminal histories.
00:39And as you said, you know, we're talking about sex crimes, assault and battery, some with DUI convictions, domestic violence.
00:47ICE says its agents have also changed their tactics in response to protests and attempts to interfere with arrests.
00:53And the Atlanta sweep comes as immigration arrests are hitting record levels nationwide.
00:59ICE says it made roughly 51,000 arrests in July alone, and that's the highest monthly total in the agency's
01:06history.
01:06Officials say similar enforcement operations will continue in cities across the country.
