AccuWeather's Aaron Jayjack reported that Charlotte residents and farmers are rushing to gather supplies and protect crops ahead of a potentially damaging ice storm.
Transcript
00:00I am in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina, where residents are preparing for a major winter storm to affect their city.
00:08A farmer's market is going on right here, so a good last-minute place to get some food, some fresh food and veggies before this major winter storm comes through.
00:16And the residents here are a little bit concerned about a major ice storm.
00:20I talked to a couple of the people here that have stands at the farmer's market, and they told me what they're expecting and what they're doing to prepare for the storm.
00:27Well, yeah, I mean, I was telling people this morning I am fortunate that I've been into homesteading for a couple decades, so this is what we prepare for.
00:36But gathering firewood, getting water supplied inside the house to use for necessities, and I think it has the potential to really be impactful.
00:46I'm a fourth generation from this area, and my grandfather and my dad have always said that our massive storms, we get them when moisture comes up from the Gulf and Arctic air comes from the north.
00:58And that's what it looks like it's going to happen, so I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
01:02We are double-covering our crops that are out in the field.
01:06Most of them are under plastic, under high tunnels, and we will also be, we have an overnight duty where we're, you know, hitting the snow or frozen ice, whatever it's going to be, and knock it off the high tunnels.
01:20As a Charlottean, we have had lots of ice storms in our past.
01:24We have lost power for weeks at times, so it's nothing new, never fun, but certainly won't come as a surprise.
01:32All the residents here in Charlotte are preparing for a major winter storm, ice covering trees and power lines and making travel impossible.
01:41So people are, plenty of people are stocking up on food and supplies, getting gas, getting generators prepared for what could be a long-duration power outage here in Charlotte.
01:51For AccuWeather, I'm Aaron J. Jack.
