00:00For many of us at the moment, it's cloudy, it's wet, but it's also pretty mild.
00:05However, a lot of that's actually going to change as we go through the next 12 hours or so.
00:09Currently, we have two fronts kind of sandwiching together.
00:13We have an occluded front over some central parts of the UK,
00:16and then this front wavy feature across more southern-southeastern areas.
00:21Worth noting, there's colder air to the northwest behind this occluded front,
00:25and that's going to be feeding its way southeastwards as we go through the day.
00:29That's because all the rain with those fronts gradually shifting its way east-southeastwards as we go through today.
00:35That being said, across some far southeastern areas of England,
00:39it's actually going to stay cloudy and wet for a fair while, really.
00:43Otherwise, brighter weather pushing its way, and clearer skies coming in from the northwest,
00:48albeit a few showers across parts of Northern Ireland, a fair few across parts of Scotland,
00:53and some of them turning a bit wintry, some sleet or snow perhaps.
00:56But elsewhere, many places turning a lot drier and a lot of the cloud clearing through.
01:01But as I mentioned, there is colder air coming in,
01:03so maximum temperatures today across the northwest are going to be a few degrees down
01:07compared to yesterday, mid-single figures in a fair few spots.
01:11Still quite mild towards the south-southeast, but obviously it's cloudy and it's quite wet here.
01:16Then, as we go through the end of the day and overnight,
01:19that cloud and rain actually continues across some far southeastern parts.
01:22Kent, maybe parts of Sussex and Hampshire could stay a little bit wet through much of the night.
01:28Elsewhere, we have largely clear skies.
01:31A few showers, yes, across parts of Scotland, and these could still be a little bit wintry,
01:36so some sleet, some snow over the higher ground.
01:38But for many, we have largely clear skies.
01:41That's because we have a bit of a ridge building, so that's going to quieten our weather down.
01:46And as I've already talked about, we then have colder air across us.
01:50And so with a ridge, clear skies, colder air, yes, temperatures are going to drop.
01:55Quite markedly lower than last night for many places, widely getting to around, if not below freezing.
02:01So a fairly widespread frost for many of us.
02:04There will also be some icy patches around, and even a bit of fog and freezing fog as well.
02:10Now, the greatest risk of ice causing a bit of a concern will be across parts of Scotland.
02:14And that's because we've had a fair amount of snow recently.
02:17Some of that will have melted with the rain that's come through today.
02:20And then it's freezing because of the temperatures dropping below freezing.
02:24As well as that, we have some showers coming in.
02:26So, yeah, perfect ingredients for some icy stretches, which could cause some problems, particularly on the roads.
02:33Then any freezing fog patches that do develop overnight could actually take quite a while to clear.
02:38They could linger through a large chunk of the day.
02:40But otherwise, there's a lot of bright weather for many places,
02:43the exception being across the far south-southeast, a bit more clouds, some rain pushing in as well.
02:48And then as we go through the day, we're going to see a front coming in from the west.
02:52That's going to bring increasing amounts of cloud.
02:54And we're going to see a fair amount of rain across mainly Northern Ireland,
02:58but also into some western fringes of Scotland later on as well.
03:02It is going to turn cloudier for many of us as we go through the day.
03:05But actually, for large chunks of it, it is going to be bright and sunny.
03:08But we have that colder air across us, so temperatures are down compared to today for many places,
03:14mid-single figures quite widely, just a little bit milder towards the southwest perhaps.
03:19Then, as we go through the end of the week, there's still the potential for a deep area of low pressure to push through as we go into Thursday.
03:26Still some uncertainty as to the exact track it takes, how deep it's going to be.
03:31But do be aware that there could be some very wet, some very windy weather around, particularly across England and Wales.
03:37It's going to be, well, cold in the north at times, further south temperatures nearer normal.
03:42And so with that, when there is some wet weather around, I think the chance of seeing anything wintry, any snow,
03:48well, that's really largely confined to the hills and mountains across parts of Scotland.
