00:00Hello and welcome back to another exciting episode. Today I'm going to
00:05unbox something that I've been waiting to get for quite some time. A backup
00:13battery-powered emergency generator. Now this one is from Ryobi or Ryobi. I've
00:24heard two different types or two different ways of pronouncing it so with
00:31Ryobi Ryobi this is the 40-volt version of that and this is the biggest thing
00:38I've unboxed from this new unboxing center that I have. So I'm not quite sure
00:46how it's going to turn out. I may have to stand up for portions of this so we'll
00:52find out. But what's on the box? Well it is Ryobi 40 volt and this version happens
01:06to have two batteries that came with it. It was about a hundred bucks more
01:10expensive than just the tool alone but I figured an extra hundred bucks for two
01:17hundred bucks worth of batteries. I'll do that. On the side it says three thousand
01:29starting watts. Whoa! So that should start an average size refrigerator and the
01:39reason why I'm gonna have it is for the basement water pump if I need it for that.
01:45Also in the winter for a little portable heater which I guess you saw an unboxing
01:52for that a little while ago. I'm going to hook that up to this and see if that
01:55works. It has eighteen hundred running watts. It has two type-c USB outlets, four
02:07standard USB-A outlets and three 120 volt outlets or 110 as most of us know it as.
02:18Now it does include two six amp hour lithium ion batteries. What I have in mind for this
02:25is I do have a gas powered emergency generator, a very small one, and I figured I can set that
02:32outside if it's you know electricity is going to be out for a while if we have a bad storm or
02:38something that I know is really bad and we're being told electricity is going to be out for a
02:43while. I can actually have that gas powered one outside outside outside and have this charger and two
02:53other chargers on it to charge batteries as this one's running and since these little chargers don't
03:01pull a whole lot of amperage the gas powered generator is probably going to be just barely
03:06over idling so it's going to last a long time to keep these things charged and then have this
03:12inside with us so that way we don't get the engine fumes and all that on a gas generator or we're not
03:21trying to have long cords going through the house those kind of things that can just take this thing
03:26around as needed at least that's the idea and as we go and open this up I'm going to go over the
03:38different features the different identifiers meaning where everything's out on this thing and and what
03:46is supposed to be able to do those kind of stuff but on top here hours of runtime to six amp hour
03:58batteries that are included should run this thing you know with external lights it says between 85 and
04:08100 hours refrigerator says one to four hours which when you're in emergency situation usually you're
04:17running it for a few hours and you just you know bring it up to to this temperature and then you let
04:24it go for about an hour then you charge it back up I mean I have it run for about an hour and then let
04:29it go but again remember my idea of having batteries charging outside as I have this thing inside so I'll
04:40just keep changing batteries and of course also your Wi-Fi router or modem 30 to 50 plus hours I didn't think
04:47about that but I guess since we have cable internet as long as the all the cable lines are down as well as
04:59the electric being off I guess that'll work okay so let's open this thing up see what we got
05:08oh look at that comes with instructions nice oh it comes with a little baggie and that looks like you might be able to
05:35take this thing outside to cover this thing with this cover on it wow okay I wasn't expecting that
05:43you have of course all of the products that Ryobi has for 40 volt and 80 volt nice
06:00all kinds of other literature registration and let's see you can write a review and be put in
06:15for a chance to win a thousand dollar monthly Home Depot gift card okay more information oh another how
06:27many hours you can run stuff and an owner's manual a complete full owner's manual you don't have to go
06:37online to download it it's right here one battery two batteries charging cable oh I get it this plugs into
06:54into the unit and the unit becomes a charger so my idea I'd have to have my other chargers to I think I
07:05have three other chargers with the other equipment I got that I would have to put those three out with the gas
07:14gas powered if things last too long all right and then pulling this thing oh that's pretty light
07:25nothing else in the box it's pretty small pretty light of course it doesn't have any batteries in it yet
07:38avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures okay well I'm going to be using it inside mostly anyway
07:46so and then has one two three four slots for 40 volt batteries that should do really good because if it
08:01lasts one to four hours on a refrigerator with two batteries two to eight hours with four batteries all
08:10right sounds good to me and then on the back side here it has a nice little fan there keep it nice and
08:17cool and some venting it has the charging mode indicator guide it has all your danger here Bluetooth I'm gonna have to read
08:30directions now dang it but Bluetooth supposedly you can download an app and you can monitor through
08:39Bluetooth how things are going so if I have this thing downstairs on the sump pump then I can monitor how
08:51the batteries are doing and all that I don't have to keep running up and down the stairs because I'm old
08:58so here you do have your power and you do have to push on and off if you want AC power units on here
09:11it does have pure sine wave that's nice the 120 volts are 15 amp AC so you do have to keep that in mind
09:21does have a breaker here oh and you can run these in parallel so you can have a few of these units and
09:28you might even be able to get like bigger or smaller units I'm not sure what the other units are but I bet
09:35they have parallel on them as well and oh hold to pair so there's your Bluetooth pairing
09:42LCD LCD display so you can keep that on or off work light oh it has a little work light here you can turn
09:51those on and off here's your two type C inputs your four type A inputs oh here's your charging
10:01your charging cable which is a specialty cable it's like you just push up yep you just push that right in
10:10there now one thing I am curious about and I'll test this a little bit later does this do a pass through in
10:18other words if I just plug this in and then plug something through here we would pass through I don't
10:26think so the way this is set up but I'm gonna try it anyway but I really don't think so hmm so let's go ahead
10:37and test this thing out and see what we got okay for the first test no batteries in it I have the charger
10:47plugged in go and plug that in oh as you see we have lights up here so that works we're gonna plug in
11:01the heater see if there's a direct bypass or at least enough power for a direct bypass whoop press and
11:11hold there it goes okay but I'm gonna peel this off because behind it I see haha no battery you can't turn on
11:24the power for the outlets unless you have battery in it okay so let's go ahead and turn that back off so if you
11:43look up here you see two four one three so we're gonna go ahead and put one and two in oh they're big
12:07ones they're pretty alright so six amp hour and then if they work we're gonna go ahead and put the year
12:21on it I like putting the year on just to make sure so when they do die because they will eventually I
12:27know how long they last because this is pre pandemic 2018 that's a 2.6 amp hour and then this
12:38is a 5 amp hour 2020 and actually you can see an unboxing and test that I did on this
12:46in the past so there we go but this only has one indicator light on it which means it's been sitting
13:00for a while I don't I don't particularly like that but what are you gonna do just go ahead and slide
13:08that in it is working there and then number two is completely opposite this one also only has one
13:20indicator light pop that in there oh it it's nice to know it charges in series so it would charge this
13:31one first then this one then third one then fourth one okay go ahead and put the five amp out
13:37battery in on slot three and then the two amp hour battery slot four now that I have four in let's try to
13:53press and hold nope so as it's charging it will not pass through interesting excuse me
14:07now we know that this is 100% just a backup battery source unplug the charge turn it back on load level zero
14:21let's go ahead and oh there we go so that's on there we go so it does yep brings enough
14:37load level that it does heat up the portable heater so that's one thing it definitely works on and
14:47and obviously this thing pulls a lot of juice if this thing can do it then my little sump pump will work
14:54get all those batteries charging up oh and by the way let's see if the cover would fit if we're
15:07for some reason we need to go outside oops wrong way the open section goes to the back is obviously
15:17that's where the vents are it needs to wrap around okay I see it goes on this way
15:25it's pretty tight okay and then when you go to carry it you can just zip that unzip it and then carry it that way awesome I like that well here's an interesting question I wonder if the USB
15:32has PD on it which is the uh
15:38uh
15:43uh
15:44that's pretty tight
15:45okay and then when you go to carry it you can just zip that
15:47i like that well here's an interesting question i wonder if the usb-c has pd on it which is the
16:00uh forget what it stands for essentially does it have enough power to charge
16:07bigger usb pieces of equipment like this plug that in
16:12it's charging now why i would use this big thing to charge that i don't know but it's kind of cool
16:20to know that it could do it now let's play with a couple things that's gonna pull a lot of juice
16:29like a microwave as you see it pulls about 95 capacity out of the smaller batteries that i
16:35have on it but overall it did a good job
16:45the biggest thing i could think of that would pull even more juice is an air fryer
16:51and as you see it brought it right up to the limit at 100 but it did the job
17:05now let's test out something for the winter the handy dandy personal heater let's see how well this
17:13does okay there you have it round it up two hours so that means four hours for four batteries not bad
17:26i'll take that doesn't do exactly everything i had hoped but definitely does enough
17:34that i think
17:37it's worth the money i paid
17:41the ryobi ryobi 40 volt emergency battery backup generator
17:49i hope this was educating for you it definitely was for me and as always have a great day
18:09you
