If you, like millions of Americans, are traveling for Christmas, the weather could cause you some serious problems.

00:00Are you traveling this week? Well, here's the biggest things to know,
00:03including the forecast in less than two minutes. So first of all, what is the
00:07best and worst time to head out if you are driving now Monday? I'm sorry, you've
00:12missed the boat, but if you want to leave after 7 p.m., things won't be quite
00:15as bad. Now, Tuesday, it's very similar. The afternoon, early evening hours,
00:19that's the worst. The good news, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, minimal
00:23traffic is expected. So maybe you're only driving a couple hours. You're just
00:26doing a day trip to visit family. You should be A-OK, at least as far as
00:30AAA's recommendations for road traffic. Now, let's talk about the
00:34weather. So overall, Tuesday, a couple of concern areas. We have a big
00:38major delay area into the northeast and one into portions of California. Now,
00:43California, it's the big flooding rainfall from an atmospheric river event
00:47that we've been talking about in the northeast. It's snow and ice. We fast
00:52forward to Wednesday. Well, the rain, the flooding, it gets significantly worse.
00:56That major delay area, it gets a lot bigger overall. So a quick look at the
01:02footprint here Tuesday night through Friday. The areas in the darkest green,
01:05that's where we have the heaviest rainfall. So some of the areas most likely
01:09to see some sort of flooding. However, river flooding is a concern as well. We've
01:13already seen at least one water rescue because of river flooding and those water
01:18levels just getting too high. So add in some extra time for yourself, especially if
01:22you're going to be driving. Just plan for some potential road closures, some
01:26delays that you'll have to work around. And of course, stay safe. Any flooded
01:29roadways don't even try to drive through them, walk through them. It's just not
01:33worth the risk. We go ahead to Christmas Day. Still bad situation into
01:37California. There's some snow, ice issues into the northeast, but overall, that's
01:42more of a after Christmas concern Thursday, Friday. We're watching this very closely
01:47to see where the biggest impacts are going to be.
