00:00Welcome to today's video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:04This time, we're featuring a real eye-catcher in the midsize segment,
00:08the brand new Mazda 60E, a fully electric 4-door that surprises not only with its stylish design but also with its concept.
00:17At a time when electric cars are increasingly conquering the streets,
00:21Mazda is making a comparatively late but visually extremely successful entry into the segment of electrically powered midsize vehicles.
00:30Developed in cooperation with the Chinese manufacturer Chang,
00:34the Mazda 6E is bringing a breath of fresh air to a vehicle class that has so far been rather reluctantly electrified in Europe,
00:40in stark contrast to the overcrowded SUV market.
00:46It's clear at first glance that this car wants to be more than just another electric car.
00:53At just 1.5 meters high, 4.9 meters long and with frameless doors,
00:58it exudes a sporty elegance that you would expect from a coupe.
01:05Eye-catching details such as a striking radiator grille with LED animations and slimline lights set accents that make it stand out from the crowd.
01:13The interior is in no way inferior to the exterior.
01:18Microfiber upholstery with leather elements,
01:21suede applications with decorative stitching on the dashboard
01:23and an overall very high-quality appearance make the Mazda 6EA vehicle with luxurious aspirations without entering the premium segment.
01:33However, despite all the visual finesse,
01:35one should not overlook the sober reality under the hood.
01:39Mazda offers two performance variants with around 245 and around 258 horsepower.
01:44Sounds like a decent base, but remains rather reserved in terms of driving dynamics.
01:53Anyone hoping for sporty driving performance could be disappointed,
01:56because the 6E shows its more leisurely side.
02:00Even with a torque of 320 Nm,
02:03the vehicle, which weighs around 2 tons,
02:05accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour in a leisurely 7.6 seconds.
02:09The top speed is still an acceptable 175 kilometers per hour.
02:18Not a top value, but sufficient for relaxed driving on the motorway.
02:23Things get interesting when looking at the technical data of the two available battery variants.
02:29The long-range version with 80 kWh of gross capacity only offers a maximum charging capacity of 90 kW.
02:36According to the manufacturer,
02:39this means a charging time of 47 minutes for the range between 10 and 80%,
02:43which is rather mediocre by today's standards.
02:47Surprising!
02:49The smaller battery with 69 kWh achieves a significantly higher charging capacity of 165 kW.
02:57This results in a remarkable difference that is not only relevant on paper.
03:01Mazda itself assumes that the large battery variant would only account for around 10% of sales.
03:10A realistic estimate.
03:13The ranges are pleasingly close at around 550 kilometers for the long-range version
03:18and around 480 kilometers for the basic version.
03:21With a realistic charge level of 71%,
03:26a range of around 335 kilometers is definitely achievable.
03:31According to empirical values,
03:33consumption is around 18 kWh per 100 kilometers.
03:38Slightly above the WLTP value, but still considered efficient.
03:42The handling and comfort bear the signature of Shang's development department.
03:49The Mazda 6E is less designed for sportiness and more of a comfortable glider.
03:54The steering seems a bit disconnected.
03:57The chassis, on the other hand, impresses with its smooth tuning on long journeys.
04:01With a wheelbase of around 2.9 meters,
04:04the vehicle drives confidently over long distances,
04:08although transverse joints and bumps in the road are not completely filtered out acoustically or haptically.
04:13The interior scores with well-conceived ergonomics and high-quality use of materials.
04:20Mazda has adopted some elements from the new CX-5,
04:24including the touchscreen,
04:25which, however, has a slightly different, Chinese-influenced user interface.
04:31The menu structure nevertheless remains clear and easy to use.
04:36All assistance systems can be adjusted or deactivated with just a few clicks.
04:41Perhaps the Mazda 6E's biggest trump card is its price.
04:45The midsize electric car is available from around €45,000
04:49and comes with a very comprehensive range of standard equipment.
04:54Included are, among other things,
04:56a head-up display, an electric tailgate,
04:59LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof,
05:01a navigation system,
05:03a keyless entry system,
05:04air-conditioned seats,
05:05a variety of assistants and a high-quality audio system with 14 speakers.
05:11Even adaptive cruise control is included as standard.
05:16Those who do not want to do without particularly elegant seats
05:19like those in the test vehicle should budget around €2,000.
05:21All in all, the Mazda 6E is a remarkable newcomer to the electric mid-range vehicle segment.
05:30It offers solid technology, impressive ranges,
05:33an elegant appearance and an equipment package
05:36that can compete with even significantly more expensive models.
05:39Although it lacks that last touch of dynamism
05:44as a comfortable, stylish touring car
05:46with a strong price-performance ratio,
05:48it is indeed a solitaire in today's automotive landscape.
