00:00Hi guys, yes, we're here at the European press launch of the 9 Versus 1100.
00:09To be precise, we have the Versus 1100 SE in front of us and we're about an hour and a half drive north of Barcelona in the beautiful mountains.
00:19There's also a ski resort here and you can see the weather is on our side.
00:23We've got brilliant blue skies, not a single cloud, temperatures of around 20 degrees, ideal motorcycle weather for a presentation like this, right?
00:53Right guys, let's continue with the text.
00:59It's gained 100 cubic meters, thanks to a 3M longer stroke.
01:03The engine has also been given a few other changes along the way.
01:07Err, less, so different camshafts with less valve lift, for example, and a few other things.
01:13It had, a bit more compression, right?
01:15A bit more compression and the two middle intake snorkels were extended by 45 millimeters.
01:21What struck me I've driven the engine myself is that it has a wonderful grunt, a kind of grunt in the middle, it starts between 4 and 6,000 revolutions per minute.
01:32So, it pulls well.
01:35The journalists are very impressed with it too.
01:38You can see that all these changes are really important.
01:42We did have to make the bike a little smaller here and there.
01:44But we have homologated it for Euro 5+.
01:49That means we have a motorcycle that offers more torque and more peak power.
01:56The previous model had 120 horsepower and we now have 135 horsepower.
02:00The torque is particularly noticeable in the lower and middle rev range, especially in the middle rev range, between 4 and 4,000, you could say 5,000, you can clearly see the difference to the previous model.
02:12That was really good for the engine and if we're being honest the rev counter goes way beyond 5 figures at 10,000, so well over 10,000.
02:20You don't really need that RPM.
02:22If you want to go reasonably fast, 7,800 revolutions per minute is enough for the next gear change, which, by the way, is of course achieved on this bike with the quick shifter on the SE version.
02:33Oh, that's really great and it has a blipper too.
02:37That means you get support when shifting down, you don't have to pull in the clutch, especially on tricky stretches like that, where a bend suddenly appears in front of you and you realize, oh, I'm in a higher gear, then you just shift down quickly.
02:47It's a lot easier with a blipper, of course, and the same goes for upshifts.
02:51You have a smoother connection, especially when riding with two people, because the bike is a Kawasaki, which is great for a pillion passenger.
02:59I don't think there's ever been a better KAVAS.
03:01It even beats our old 1400 GTR in terms of pillion passenger comfort, and especially when riding with a passenger.
03:07We know how the gear change goes up and then the pillion passenger hits the back side of the bike with their helmet.
03:14Dot.
03:14With this quick shifter, the transition is much smoother, right?
03:18That's a huge advantage for pillion riding too.
03:21So it's not just good for sporty things, it's also proven itself in everyday life.
03:31Range well over 400 kilometers here depending on how you ride.
03:48According to WVTA, we give a fuel consumption of 5.6L in Gleeburg.
03:53That's not all that much for a 1000cc engine.
03:55That's also in keeping with the times.
03:57Um, I said it earlier, we have a TFT display that now includes a voice-to-voice solution.
04:05That means you have some kind of transmitter or microphone on your helmet, from whatever company you install in the helmet, and then you can use voice commands, you can integrate that into the TFT display here at the front, and then you can ask via voice command.
04:19Hey Kawasaki, we didn't give the lady a name, instead we say, hey Kawasaki, how far is it to the next gas station?
04:27Or can you say such mundane things as, I'm hungry?
04:31Then the lady assisting you will know, oh, he's really hungry, he's looking for a restaurant, you'll get a notification about that.
04:38So, that's another nice feature.
04:40Um, I was asked today why the tachometer is still analog and built right into the large display.
04:48A fair question, I think that has a little something to do with it.
04:51My colleague Martin Lambert from Kawasaki Motors Europe outlined the age structure yesterday and you could see that many of the Versys 1000 customers were well over 55 and I think a lot of these people still have that classic clock, that classic rev counter, in the back of their minds, which they can read quicker than the bar graph.
05:11The younger kids are quicker, they're used to it and also a lot because of a lot of computer games, but the older ones will prefer something like this.
05:20So I think that was the reason why they left it as it was.
05:24What I really like is that the handlebar switch on the left isn't too overloaded and, above all, it's clearly stated what does what.
05:31For example, you can adjust the preload here it says so right there on the bike, you get used to it pretty quickly.
05:36I think if you pack it too full, then personally that would be too much of a good thing because you get too distracted because you have to search and that's extremely dangerous when riding a motorcycle.
05:49A colleague asked me today why the adjustment is done with two buttons.
05:53You need two hands.
05:55I know my Japanese colleagues and they're always concerned with maximum safety for their customers.
06:00I think they want you to pull over to the right and then adjust the screen, not while riding, so you're not distracted.
06:07Sure, an even more logical solution on an electronically controlled model like this would be an electrically adjustable screen, but there has to be room for improvement.
06:18There will definitely be the next evolutionary stage before a motorcycle like this comes along.
06:30M, we also have riding needs, rain, road, and rider, and then another four, sorry, rain, road, and sport, and then at the same time the rider name, where you can basically configure the suspension options yourself.
06:53We have the SE here, which means we have electronic suspension, where you can also directly influence the setup, and if you want to switch back and forth between the menus, between the different riding modes, the throttle has to be fully closed.
07:23Kawasaki is offering two different models for Germany.
07:27The standard model differs from the SE in terms of its exterior and is recognizable by its smaller windshield.
07:35And the more highly equipped SE is actually a bit heavier too.
07:40We're talking about 255 kilograms for the standard, while the SE weighs 200.
07:47Kilogram, 59 kilograms.
07:49You can obviously save a lot of money with the standard model, but then you miss out on a few things.
07:55A quickshiffer, for example, is available, but it's not included.
07:58There's also electronic suspension, of course, and that's missing too, but it's still available for 1,355 euros, plus shipping.
08:07The SE costs 17,345 euros, plus shipping.
08:14So there's a certain price discrepancy, which might lead some people to say, well, the standard is enough for me.
08:20That's why we're bringing the two models to Germany, right?
08:24When can we see the bike in person?
08:50There are two big trade fairs coming up.
08:55So a very, very large international trade fair, that would be the EIGMAR, right?
08:59Exactly.
09:00It's from the 7th to help me think about it the 10th of November, I think, if I remember correctly.
09:06In Milan.
09:07Milan.
09:07Exactly.
09:08I hope so, otherwise you'll have to correct it.
09:10And then the other big trade fair is in Germany, the Intermod in Cologne on December 5th, so over St. Nicholas Day.
09:20Put on your clothes and come to the trade fair.
09:22Guys, Kawasaki will be showing the bike.
09:25We have a relatively large location again.
09:29We have a lot of colleagues there who are happy to advise you.
09:32Not just about the new Versys 1100, we have a few other new models too.
09:36There's one thing we won't reveal.
09:38You know, the Nino 1100SX is also new with an almost identical engine.
09:42It's also got a bit of an upgrade.
09:44And then there's a third model coming, which we'll present to the Milanese.
09:46I won't reveal that yet though, because there should be a bit more suspense, but it will also be at the Intermod.
09:52At this point, I can assume you've watched this video.
09:55So please leave us some comments, comments, especially regarding this new bike, what you think of it, and whether you think all these measures are right.
10:07We'd be interested to hear that.
10:09If you like it, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel so you're always up to date with new Kawasaki's.
10:16And like I said, there's another one coming that you don't even know about, so subscribe.
10:25And like I said, there's another one coming that you don't even know about.
