00:00Birmingham's cultural calendar doesn't ease up and this week is a proof.
00:05From a blockbuster theatre to major exhibitions and live music,
00:09the city has plenty to tempt you out of the house.
00:13The headline arrival is at the Hippodrome on the 15th of October.
00:16Moulin Rouge, the musical, begins its Birmingham run.
00:20Expect glittering costumes, pop anthems stitched into the score
00:24and a static design that floods the theatre with colour.
00:27The story is familiar, but the delivery is all about energy and spectacle.
00:33Fans queue early for shows like this and the buzz in the foyers is part of the experience.
00:40Meanwhile, at the NEC, from the 14th to the 19th of October,
00:44the motorhome and caravan show takes over.
00:46It's the largest of its kind in the UK,
00:49filling halls with everything from tidy camper conversations to full-size touring homes.
00:54Families treat it as a die-out, climbing in and out of blaming vehicles and trying out lay-outs.
01:01Couples wander through, imagining weekends on the road.
01:04And even if you're not in the market,
01:06the novelty of stepping into a luxury motorhome or a cleverly designed caravan is part of the fun.
01:13Back in the city centre, the rep is serving up something with a twist.
01:17On the 13th and 14th of October, it stages Yippee-Ki-Yay.
01:21The entire plot of a cult action film retold in rhyme and rhythm.
01:26It's quick, witty and a little surreal,
01:28but audiences love how it turns an explosion-filled blockbuster into something poetic.
01:34Two nights only, which makes it feel like a small event with big word of mouth.
01:38Music lovers have their own highlight.
01:41On the 13th of October, Graham Nash with Peter Asher steps onto the Symphony Hall stage.
01:47Nash, whose career stretches from the Hollies to Crosby,
01:50Stills and Nash have decades of songs and stories to share.
01:54Joined by Asher, himself a producer and performer with his own tales,
01:59the evening mixes music with anecdotes.
02:01For older fans, it's a trip back through the soundtrack of their youth,
02:04while for younger audiences, it's a chance to hear songs that shaped whole generations.
02:11And throughout the week, you can slow the pace at Brinley Place.
02:14Icon Gallery is showing Donald Locke-visited forms right through February.
02:20Locke was a Guyanese artist whose work spans sculpture, ceramics and drawing.
02:26His pieces explore themes of history, identity and resilience.
02:30Exhibitions like this don't shout for attention.
02:33They give you spice to reflect, wonder at your own speed and see international work brought into Birmingham for free.
02:41From musicals bursting with light and sound to exhibitions that ask you to pause and think,
02:45the week ahead shows Birmingham at its most varied.
02:49Each event lands on its own date, but together they offer something for anyone
02:54looking to step out and experience the city in a different way.
