00:00Well, spring has certainly sprung here in Canberra. The gates have opened here at Floriade for its 38th year.
00:09It certainly is a marking moment for Canberrans. It's our way out of winter hibernation.
00:15And there are one million flowers on display here at Floriade this year.
00:20Around half of them are bulbs, flowers like daffodils and tulips.
00:24The other half are annuals, so flowers like pansies and violas.
00:29So certainly it has been an 18-month operation to get these displays ready for the public this year.
00:38And this year's theme has the theme of science and nature.
00:42Each of the garden beds around Commonwealth Park here in Canberra has that theme of science and nature.
00:48So we're talking about a DNA display, atom, computer science, petri dish.
00:54It's a chance for people to not only enjoy the flowers that they're looking at,
00:57but also take home some educational material as well.
01:02Floriade is one of Canberra's biggest tourism draw cards.
01:06It brings in around half a million people.
01:09We're expecting around half of them to be Canberrans and then the other half from interstate and overseas.
01:15Over the next four weeks though, the all eyes certainly will be on the weather.
01:19If we still have some more clear and sunny days like this in Canberra,
01:24organisers say that we might be heading for a record crowd.
