00:00From the beginning, the director and I talked a lot and we wanted to have very clear what were the
00:11reasons for Mama Elena to behave the way she does.
00:14And I think Mama Elena, she also felt a big fire and a big passion inside her.
00:22But because she couldn't have the experience of having that love developed, I think she kind of got really sour
00:39inside her.
00:41And in a way, that's why she loves Gertrude so much, because she's the consequence of that big love.
00:52And in a way, that's a reason why Tita, why she rejects Tita so much, because she was, how do
01:07you say, obliged to get married to a man she didn't love.
01:14So that makes her a very complex character and a very complex mother and someone who has to, you know,
01:24take care of the hacienda and all the workers for it.
