00:00G'day, I am Tim Stephenson and I am a sheep farmer and wind farm developer with my wife,
00:06Steph in WA. We are the first business in Australia to infuse a rural gene into
00:12dorker sheep on a large commercial scale, increasing the lamb turnoff by more than 60%.
00:17This decision has made significant changes to our operation, such as efficient stocking rates,
00:23time of lambing, ease of lambing, reduced use of chemicals, improved animal welfare,
00:28and improved utilisation of labour units. The soil and plant nutrition program
00:33concentrates on root growth and the control of nitrates in the plants. Producing all liquid
00:38fertilisers on farm has reduced the reliance of imported oil-based fertilisers.
00:45Renewable energy goes hand in hand with agriculture in our region on our farm. We have the best wind
00:50resource in the southern hemisphere and existing infrastructure already dissecting the property.
00:56What started as a way of de-risking our sheep operation has grown into the largest wind
01:00farm in WA and a development that provides tangible benefits to the whole community.
01:05We have committed to a community fund of $1,000 per megawatt annually,
01:09victimising 12 kilometres of road and having the ability to ensure local businesses are used in the
01:14construction stage. The building of a 300 person accommodation village in the local town of Badjungarra on
01:20Newland, the traditional owners, which will be gifted back to them at the end of the construction phase.
01:27Consciously addressing the concerns of integration of workers into the local community,
01:31investing in building of a local gym remaining once the wind farm is built,
01:35assisting the local shop owners to expand their shop, and the use of the local pub rather than
01:39having on-site facilities. People make sustainable communities. That means jobs and wealth creation
01:46for all sectors of our community. We did not intentionally set out to improve sustainability
01:51in our rural community, but realised along the journey how essential it is.
01:56We have one of the most part of our community is quite the success of the community.
01:57We have a great opportunity for them to grow older, but many of us can
01:57create the experiences of making the development of a community.
01:57We have an opportunity for them to keep up with the community,
