00:00Increasingly distant memory for both, it must be said.
00:03And they come together, Everton and Manchester United, amid different atmospheres.
00:10And different fortunes so far.
00:12Manchester United have tasted league defeat.
00:14Everton have not in any competition.
00:17But the frustrations of the end of the transfer window still having reverberations here at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
00:27Which, Jim Beglin, has perhaps a little taken the shine off of a positive start to the season on all
00:33fronts on the pitch.
00:34Yeah, I live near here and know a lot of Evertonians who are not pleased at the way the transfer
00:40window worked out.
00:42Particularly because of having a strike force that wasn't exactly prolific anyway.
00:55So it's a venerable old rivalry.
00:57The 195th league meeting between Everton and Manchester United.
01:05Both have had to get used to looking on with envy at what's going on across town.
01:13Mateus Cunha dropping into the deeper positions and the nominally wide players being much higher up.
01:19And in Umbermo's case, at this moment in time, a lot more central.
01:24Here is Luke Shaw.
01:26He's got a lot of room.
01:28And Umbermo waits.
01:30Oh, and the bar rescues Everton.
01:33Bruno Fernandes.
01:35I think Everton got caught with the run that we saw from Luke Shaw inside.
01:40I mean, Armstrong should be looking to kind of pick him up.
01:43But Everton just got sucked in to the wrong area.
01:46This is, I mean, another exquisite execution.
01:49And he's very unlucky to see that come back off the crossbar.
01:53The crossbar.
01:56Here is Merlin Road.
01:59Garner.
02:00Barry.
02:01Dewsbury Hall can unleash from here.
02:04Tillemans losing out the second time of asking after good work.
02:07The first, Georges Cross.
02:09The goalkeeper stood and waited when some might have felt he should have come.
02:14John Brooks waves away any kind of claims which are given short shrift by Paul Howard in the VAR booth.
02:23And, you know, I thought once this took the deflection on its way in from Tyreek George, I'm thinking, will
02:29the keeper come?
02:29I thought the keeper could have come and taken that.
02:31But he decided to back off.
02:35And, yeah, I mean, there's nobody making contact when he has decided to flop towards the ground.
02:43Which did provide a more urgent option for Manchester United.
02:47But patience wins the day.
02:49Dallow.
02:52Well, not hanging about is Uri Tielemans, who can certainly hit him from range.
02:57Tarkovsky getting in there.
02:59Yeah, it was well hit by Dallow.
03:05It's over Roel's head and here's Rashford.
03:10We'll see it.
03:11Dallow arriving again.
03:12Matthias Cunha!
03:16Tarkovsky comes a long way.
03:20Roel.
03:20That could be interesting.
03:22Oh!
03:24And Everton's first real noteworthy chance goes of begging for Barry.
03:30But Merlin cast a spell there.
03:32Well, as an ex-fullback, I'm just full of admiration for the cross here.
03:36This is absolutely tremendous.
03:39And he should be steering that on target.
03:41I know it's easier to say than done, but he really should be.
03:44Because he seems to meet it, you know, where he wanted to.
03:47And yet, it's just gone too high.
03:55Oh, and that was almost an enticing header down from Maynou.
03:59And a shot on target from the man who wouldn't be top of your list of likely matchwinners, Jared Branthwaite.
04:05Yeah, against Verlomans here, it was all about line of sight.
04:08As soon as it fell Branthwaite's way, he had to get a good early look at it.
04:17Might be now.
04:20Rashford in with a chance.
04:22Branthwaite to the rescue.
04:23It's still on for Bruno Fernandes.
04:26And Jared Branthwaite there again, proving a rock at the heart of the Everton defence.
04:31Well, it was a one-man defence on his part, you know, for this moment in time.
04:36This is beautifully timed.
04:38And now it's a case of getting the block in.
04:40And he's there again.
04:41And that's really got the crowd going, going in at half-time.
04:44And Marouane Fellaini got to an equaliser.
04:49Dazzling feet from Umbermo!
04:51And the finish to match!
04:59Well, they always have that little bit of something at the top end of the pitch.
05:05And it is the perfect start to the second period.
05:09Brian Umbermo scores for the first time in his career against Everton.
05:15And it's a crucial one.
05:17Well, I think that would have been the message from Michael Carrick at half-time, to get on the front
05:20foot with more authority in the second half.
05:23And that's what you call authority.
05:25I mean, he'd made his mind up that he was going to cut inside.
05:27And once he was afforded the space to shoot, it was always too wide for Pickford to be able to
05:32get a right hand on it.
05:34And that's a really smart goal from Umbermo.
05:42Well, he's into the groove now.
05:44Goal against Ipswich.
05:47Joint top scorer last season.
05:52And he'd gone ten matches without scoring against Everton.
05:56The longest run against any opponent.
05:59Look on, Adam.
06:01He noses East Yorkshire from his Humber side.
06:06OK, I got the message.
06:10Johnson has a chance!
06:13His close touch made him have to stretch that little bit more.
06:18And Manchester United were able to close the gap.
06:22But overall, this has been a very good response to going behind for Everton.
06:28Yeah, just a bit loose on that occasion.
06:32Martinez, yet again.
06:35Tyreek George shining brightly here.
06:37Tieno Barry.
06:40Horn, Shaw to the rescue.
06:43And Dewsbury Hall, not at all catching it cleanly on what is not his weapon of joy.
06:48Well, this is a tremendous tackle from Luke Shaw.
06:53And Barry thinks he's just going to, like, pick out the corner.
06:56And I just cannot believe Dewsbury Hall has caught it that badly.
07:00I guess he's going at it with his weaker foot, the right, and didn't time it.
07:07The languid about the pass forward.
07:10Here's Rashford, who will certainly change the pace.
07:14And potentially dance his way through.
07:16Brilliant, Matthias Gunja!
07:19And Tarkovsky, Everton's saviour.
07:26I think Tarkovsky has done extremely well in not giving a penalty away.
07:31When it looked like, you know, Konyu was going to be able to knock the ball into the back of
07:36the net.
07:37Konyu was appealing.
07:38But this is a lovely little flick back.
07:41And that's tremendous from, and it's clean from Tarkovsky.
07:49And a different approach.
07:51Luke Shaw with his right foot.
07:54Is not necessarily going to strike the fear of God into Premier League goalkeepers.
08:01Grealish going at Rashford.
08:03Dewsbury Hall.
08:04Well, that was on his favourite side.
08:06Yeah, and he didn't make the connection again he would have liked.
08:10I mean, he could have hit this with much more force.
08:14Lacking quality with him.
08:19Tarkovsky well and truly crowded out.
08:22Oh, and Harrison Armstrong.
08:26After Dewsbury Hall was denied by a colleague.
08:35Yeah, and again, this time, it's a good position.
08:38He's on that kind of weaker right again.
08:41Yeah, Martinez is up against Barry.
08:43I think it may have came off the centre forward.
08:55Grealish.
08:56Hackney.
08:58Dewsbury Hall.
09:00Grealish again.
09:02Hayden Hackney.
09:05Maynou wins it.
09:07Eventually.
09:09Yeah, very clever by Maynou.
09:14Hackney's delivery.
09:15Brantwit's head.
09:16And a flying Lamens.
09:19Gets it out of harm's way.
09:20Could he have caught that?
09:24Could that yet be a lingering question here?
09:27Maitland-Niles.
09:29Armstrong.
09:32There was a sense that Michalenko fancied that for a moment, but then went for the clipboard forward.
09:38The authority of some of his predecessors.
09:41Maybe not the recent ones, but some of his predecessors.
09:49George.
09:51George.
09:52George has done it!
09:54Feel the power!
09:59Feel the roar!
10:11And I think this fella, Hackney, has made a difference since he's come on as well.
10:15He's given more life.
10:17Now some will say that Lamens should be dealing with this, but I'm just going to concentrate more on the
10:24hit.
10:24That is absolutely magnificent.
10:26And it deserves to find the back of the net.
10:29And Everton deserve to be back on level terms.
10:33This place has gone berserk.
10:36And they've got the reward they were hoping for.
10:39That's Everton for you.
10:41You know, they never back off.
10:43And his first goal in Royal Blue is one that they will remember.
10:51Santos.
10:52Fernandes.
10:54Szczesko!
10:56Yeah, asking a lot.
10:57He's kind of backing away from it when it comes to him.
10:59And there isn't enough pace on it, really, for him to redirect it.
11:09Well, you admire his getting amongst it.
11:11He's presented it to Szczesko there.
11:13Bruno Fernandes.
11:15Luke Shaw.
11:17Oh, and Szczesko's free!
11:19And Pickford can't keep it out despite a terrific effort.
11:23And he's done it again at the Hill Dickinson.
11:29Well, on this occasion, I'm inclined to think that the goalkeeper
11:32could have done that little bit better.
11:34I mean, the run from Luke Shaw is fantastic.
11:37And, you know, Fernandes is just going to get the pass absolutely correct.
11:40He's just stood it up and said, well, go on, compete for it.
11:43And I thought Pickford could get enough behind that from the header from Szczesko.
11:49And he's just misjudged it somehow.
11:51And you don't often see that from him.
11:53I mean, he's already made tremendous saves.
11:55This season, but that is a little bit of a letdown.
12:01You get the sense that he's concentrating on style of save, maybe,
12:06rather than just making one.
12:08There's a flick of the hand.
12:10Yeah, well, I mean, you know, usually when you have to go back one way,
12:13it's difficult adjusting the other, but it looked close enough.
12:16And the fact that he's buried his head in the turf straight after he knew it had crossed the line.
12:26Deuxry Hall.
12:28Surely George is offside.
12:30He's concentrating only on...
12:33What was at hand, play to the whistle and all that.
12:35yeah obviously it wouldn't have counted because the flag did go up he's a very assured ball carrier
12:41Hayden Hackney into Barry Hackney well done out to Jack Grealish and he's offering himself again
12:52Hackney and Grealish is bamboozled Umbermo Hackney suggesting a deflection and Pickford
13:06picks out Grealish Hackney Brathwaite pointing the way Dewsbury Hall
13:15Maitland no!
13:26Hello everybody!
13:29An astonishing debut goal from Ainslie Maitland-Niles
13:37and Everton have dug out a draw
13:43They're never beaten at least they seem to feel that way and there's always hope on this occasion I was
13:50beginning to think it's not going to happen but once this came to Maitland-Niles wow it doesn't get any
13:57better than that I mean a lot of Everton fans have vacated the stadium but those who've remained
14:03have just got to enjoy an absolute beauty that little were expecting
14:14What a second half
14:27Well Everton playing the power game and in the end it has preserved their unbeaten status
14:35short of strikers but not short on strikes Benjamin Szczesko crestfallen he thought he'd won it
14:44with the aid of perhaps an uncharacteristic error from Jordan Pickford
14:48and the forlorn face of Michael Carrick greeting what will be perceived in some quarters as a setback
14:55but for David Moyes after a distinctly testing week the spirits have lifted
15:02the roof lifted off their desirable residence by the Mersey on two occasions spectacular equalizers both
15:12to preserve a point for Everton who remain unbeaten Everton two Manchester United two
