00:00It's so funny because I never see you kill and Eve as being violent,
00:02but because there was such a kind of levity to it and this kind of playfulness.
00:07I was looking at your dress when you came out. It looks really lovely.
00:11Thanks.
00:12It's a crease now.
00:13I guess my outfit just...
00:14I'm so sorry, Michael, your outfit looks beautiful.
00:17You are wearing it so well.
00:20It's so lovely to meet you both.
00:22God, this film, I felt so much when I was watching it.
00:25I'm curious what the mood is like on set when you're making something this dark and gritty,
00:31as it's been described a lot.
00:32But with people like Jodie and Hugh and Bill, who are such fun, light people.
00:37I think it was pretty light.
00:39Like, there's a seriousness of it.
00:41You are very light as well.
00:41Like, let's be honest.
00:43The leader sets the tone and Michael's incredible what he does,
00:48but he also has a lot of humility, is incredibly personable.
00:54And I feel like that sets the president for how everyone behaves, you know?
01:00So, well, I also wasn't in the mud doing stunts, which we also need to remember.
01:05I had a very calm, beautiful experience on this set.
01:08And the crew were incredible.
01:11Yeah.
01:11I mean, the Northern Irish crew was just lovely.
01:13I remember we had, like, a cast and producer dinner early on,
01:18and it was the first time we really got to, like, hang out for a while.
01:21And I remember afterwards, you came up and you were like,
01:24reading the script, it's so, like, somber and serious.
01:26And, like, you're very silly.
01:28And I was like, thank you, I guess.
01:32I'm silly.
01:32I see silly.
01:33Yeah, I'm like, it's like-minded.
01:35But I think that's lovely as well, though.
01:38Like, I feel like there's nothing worse than, you know, it's incredible what we do.
01:42But I also don't think it should be taken.
01:44It's play.
01:45Like, we're playing.
01:46It should have that energy.
01:47Like, creation needs a sense of.
01:48Yeah, and void of ego.
01:50Yeah.
01:51We've obviously seen you, though, Jodie, doing, like, obviously Killing Eve.
01:54Like, you're used to doing, like, violent stuff where you, you know, go.
01:59Is there anything that you can't handle?
02:00Can't you handle it?
02:01I mean, the violence in this was pretty intense.
02:05But in a good way.
02:06And the violence, it's so funny because I never see you Killing Eve as being violent.
02:11But because there was such a kind of levity to it and this kind of playfulness where, I mean, I
02:17love what you've shared about what your intention was behind the violence and how you feel violence is kind of
02:23viewed generally within film.
02:25You know, Michael said it was so important that you kind of have this adverse reaction for you to fundamentally
02:30understand this man's relationship to his own actions and the world in which he lives in.
02:35Because when you arrive at the Priory, it's worlds away.
02:40So I feel like that kind of express, the expression of the violence within this film, I think, is really
02:45specific and quite fundamental to the arc as a whole.
02:50I had to watch the film with my mom at the premiere.
02:52She sat right next to me and she knew nothing about it beyond that it was a Robin Hood movie.
02:56And she's pretty squeamish.
02:57So I was, like, really nervous to see her react to the violence.
03:00But she actually handled it super well.
03:02She was like, yeah!
03:02Yeah, she's a shit, man.
03:04This is shit.
03:05And that's where you get it from.
03:08I do love, though, that you have taken this story that we've all known for, like, our whole entire lives
03:13and flipped it on its head, I guess.
03:16Are there any other legendary characters or favorites of yours that you would love to see how they lived out
03:22the last of their days?
03:23I'm always fascinated by the Epic of Gilgamesh.
03:26That's one of the earliest heroic narratives from, like, 3,000 years ago.
03:30And it basically, what I always find fascinating about it is that it's the earliest recorded sort of heroic narrative.
03:35But it's basically about a hero who his heroine days are over and he's now become a warrior king and
03:42he doesn't know what to do with his heroic energy.
03:44So he goes on this kind of, like, existential quest of, like, trying to understand life and death and immortality.
03:50And, like, he, it's sort of, it's weird that, like, one of the earliest heroic legends is already about a
03:55hero who, like, is trying to figure out what the point of being a hero is anymore after you've already
03:58killed all the monsters and become a king and stuff.
04:01And, yeah, like, it basically is a book about him trying to come to terms with death and, like, being
04:05a human being.
04:06And, yeah, that's one that I always find fascinating.
04:09How about you?
04:09I feel like we should just end that question.
04:12I'm like, I'm not following up with that beautiful one.
04:15I think that's good enough for the both of us.
04:17That is a great, too.
04:17That is great.
04:18Maybe one of your own characters, though.
04:20Maybe.
04:20I don't know.
04:21I feel quite content with it.
04:22Yeah.
04:24Obviously, the whole thing, though, is about redemption.
04:26Do you honestly think that you can atone for your sins at the end of your life?
04:30Do you think you can have, do a whole bunch of bad stuff and at the end of it just
04:34be, like, kind of ask for forgiveness?
04:36It's more the forgiveness of self.
04:38I feel like a lot of the time if we, look, you may not be, let's hope most people don't
04:43relate to the level of Robin's kind of violent past.
04:47But I think we all can connect to degrees of shame, guilt, remorse.
04:53And I think often we find that if we've kind of behaved in a certain way, it's you who's left
05:00with the consequence of that and having to kind of accept that fact and move forward.
05:04So I feel like a lot of kind of this sense of atonement is, is, comes down much more to
05:11the relationship you have with yourself as opposed to kind of garner and forgiveness from someone else.
05:18I'm too much of an overthinker, I think, to be able to ever forgive myself of my stuff.
05:22It will die with me.
05:24No!
05:25I am such an overthinker.
05:27This time!
05:28It's going to be fine.
05:28But thankfully, I haven't done anything that bad.
05:30Have you tried bloodletting?
05:31Bloodletting really cleanses the...
05:33Yes.
05:33Yes.
05:35Lovely to meet you both.
05:36Good luck with this.
05:37You got the reaction from me, I think, if you wanted from the past.
05:40Amazing.
