The rivalry between the Epic Games Store and Steam continues as Tim Sweeney argues that developers with strong brands find it more profitable to avoid Valve's platform. This claim was challenged, particularly regarding his mention of MiHoYo (HoYoverse).

00:00After claiming Steam's fees cost Valve some of the biggest games around, Epic Games CEO
00:04Tim Sweeney doubled down, insisting that lower fees and more openness might increase Steam
00:09profit. Sweeney pointed to companies like Epic, Riot and MiHoYo as notable Steam skippers,
00:14and was swiftly reminded that Genshin impact maker MiHoYo, now more commonly known by its
00:18HoYoverse or Cognosphere arms, has a growing presence on Steam. A recent ex-post from Sweeney
00:24wades into discussion of his comments regarding Steam. He responded to a user who sarcastically
00:28said, it is Steam's fault that Epic won't put their game on there apparently. In full, Sweeney replied,
00:33here's what's happening economically. Steam charges such high fees that developers with strong brands
00:38and big enough audiences, like Epic, Riot and MiHoYo, find it more profitable to go it alone.
00:43Ironically, lower fees and more openness might increase Steam profit.
00:47This quickly earned Sweeney a community note which clarifies that MiHoYo has had games on Steam since
00:51the 2021 relaunch of Hunkai Impact 3rd, and just weeks ago, released its action RPG,
00:56Endless Zone Zero on Steam to great success and reviews. As to why the boss of one of Steam's
01:01competitors would say such things, I'll leave that up to you.
