00:00How are the Red Sox where they are now? I mean, a brutal start to the season. They end up
00:05firing Alex Cora. How are they back in contention? What was one of the keys for Boston getting back into
00:12it?
00:14Yeah, you know, it's really interesting because it wasn't just, you know, the Alex Cora firing, but it was also
00:19they lost Garrett Crochet. They lost Roman Anthony. Marcelo Mayer hit the IL really early on as well.
00:25These were three players that were kind of seen as being a focal point of the team. And, you know,
00:30Peyton Tolley, you know, Connelly Early.
00:33Some of these guys weren't even kind of highly sought after in terms of kind of the pitching market coming
00:37into the year, or at least not expected to do too much.
00:40They trade away Connelly Early and Curtis Meade, the player they give back, gets hurt and they've just kept pushing
00:45through.
00:46Ultimately, it's just perseverance and also the Boston Red Sox. They spent a lot this offseason.
00:52This team had a lot of expectations based on the players that they acquired.
00:56And guys like Wilson Contreras have really, really stepped up.
01:00Sogard has really, really stepped up. A lot of these, Willier Abreu, a lot of the bats that were kind
01:04of almost middling pieces in this lineup
01:07or as kind of the initial thought coming into the year have really shown their upside.
01:11And that's what's carrying them through.
01:13But also the emergence of the pitching has really been the game changer for them.
01:18And ultimately, that's what they're going to need if they're going to make any kind of wave in the playoffs
01:22here.
01:24And Alex Cora's name has been brought up again for Philadelphia.
01:27You think that's where he lands next season in 2027?
01:31If Matt and Lee say doesn't win the World Series.
01:35He'll land somewhere, right?
01:37You know, he's definitely a coach that over the his tenure in Boston was a winning coach relative to other,
01:43you know, organizations.
01:45Is Philly the right call? I have genuinely no clue because with Philly, you have to worry about just managing
01:51the stars,
01:52which is a whole different ballgame, right?
01:54It's managing players' egos, managing players with high contracts.
01:58How do you create a lineup around those things?
02:01And ultimately, Philly is one of those markets in terms of, you know, the fan support that they want you
02:06to spend every single year.
02:07The expectations are just as high as Boston.
02:10And we will see if that's the right fit.
02:12I don't necessarily know, but I tend to think that based on the reports, that's kind of where it's pointing.
02:18And Don Mattingly will probably just fill it as a base coach again.
