00:05Once you step through those doors, you're on your way.
00:08And CAA had their five for five.
00:10There's been some pushback on it.
00:12And there's been a judge's ruling.
00:14Like a stay.
00:15And, like, if you weren't drafted, if you'd met these qualifications,
00:17basically if you never signed an NFL contract,
00:21you could return to the school you were at.
00:24If you wanted to return to another program,
00:26you would have had to have entered the transfer portal previously.
00:30Well, now we have Buccaneers Edge, Jack Plyburn, and 15 others
00:37been granted a trough for a fifth year in college football.
00:42He was just playing most recently and had a couple of sacks
00:47for the Tampa Bay Bucs in one of their preseason games.
00:52Opening up this avenue, Bill, where if these guys aren't on a roster
00:55for the NFL September 1st, and, hell, maybe they can make more money
01:00versus league minimum, like, if you're an undrafted free agent
01:03making a half a million dollars in the NFL, but, you know what,
01:05you can go give a team 10 to 12 sacks in the portal,
01:07you'd probably get a million dollars, you know?
01:11Is this good for college football?
01:14I hope this is just a one-year deal because of the five for five, right?
01:19Like, and what should have happened is they should have just made
01:22the 22 players eligible, right, and tried to get it over with there,
01:27and you knew when you were going to make that change
01:29that there were going to be some bumps, but I was always wondering
01:33when this moment would happen, the scenario you just brought up
01:36where, you know, somebody looks at it in preseason and says,
01:40man, I could probably make more money if I went back to Minnesota
01:43or Iowa State or wherever Plyburn's going to go back to.
01:47It's definitely a can of worms or whatever phrase you want to use,
01:52but I think this might hopefully just be a one-year deal
01:56because once five for five starts, you know, which it has,
01:59now you'll have the ability to play five seasons,
02:02which I think is a good thing, and then recruiting classes
02:06are going to change a little bit.
02:08The transfer portal's going to change a little bit, hopefully,
02:10because you have more incentive to stay at these schools and develop.
02:14That's the hope.
02:15We'll see if the execution matches that.

02:21and, Bob, it was all hypothetical at that point.
02:23Bobby kind of won me over talking about how it is smart
02:26to go back and get some money, get another year of film under your belt,
02:29but now hearing that, it's just ludicrous.
02:32I understand if you get cut from a team and you kind of have nowhere to go,
02:36you're kind of in that limbo space, so you go back to college,
02:39but the fact that this Jack Plyburn guy, he had a spectacular first game
02:44in the preseason, two sacks, and he's just going to cut that team out
02:50and he's going to go back.
02:51I don't get that.
02:52I mean, I can't blame him too much.
02:54Maybe in his mind he's kind of on that little bubble point,
02:57like am I going to make the 53-man roster?
02:59Am I not?
03:00So he just wants a little more stability in college.
03:02I just can't wrap my brain around it.

03:07because it makes no sense to me.

03:09I don't know that there'll be a ton of cases like this, though,

03:13It works both ways.
03:15Now, if you can go back to college and you're one of those guys.
03:19See, the people that complain about preseason NFL football,
03:22actually I'm kind of a junkie for it.
03:24I'll watch it because you forget in the third and fourth quarter
03:27how good some of these guys were in college that are fighting to make a roster spot,
03:32and it's enjoyable to watch in some ways.
03:36But if you're that fifth through seventh-round pick who is on a borderline roster spot,
03:41I mean, I can't speak for Plyburn,
03:43but I would anticipate if you would give me an NFL roster spot
03:47and I'm playing at the highest level and I'm making some money there,
03:50that it would be better than going back to school.
03:54But the catch is, and this NIL money, if they're going to offer you,
03:57like if the choice is a million dollars versus league minimum,
04:01that's a tougher debate than it should be.
