00:00Well, we have had two landfalling systems this year in the Gulf Coast, and again, they were relatively limited impact,
00:07but we are seeing some progress with the drought.
00:10It's been a little while since we showed you this graphic.
00:13Every city on the list here, each of these five, have seen improvements, one or two categories of drought improvement
00:20since early July.
00:22That's good news.
00:23We still have some work to do, so we've had a pretty good step of progress through midsummer.
00:27Among these cities, Charleston, South Carolina, still has the most severe drought.
00:31We're still dealing with moderate drought in Savannah and Raleigh, and we're actually back to just the minimal category of
00:39dryness here in Charlotte and Tallahassee.
00:41We're still in a shortage.
00:43You can see we still have a pretty good work to do, about 15 inches in the hole still in
00:47Charleston, South Carolina, and actually we're still about 16 inches in the hole in Savannah,
00:51but their recent rainfall has increased enough to get us to moderate there out of severe.
00:56And earlier we had extreme drought in some spots.
00:58We're making some progress with some downpours tonight as well.
01:01Some of these thunderstorms, though, are nasty with severe thunderstorm winds and localized flash flooding.
01:06The best chance for this, the greatest concentration of the severe storms that we've been tracking,
01:10has been in central and northern South Carolina into the central part of North Carolina.
01:14So Raleigh, Fayetteville, it's been kind of nasty out there, and these storms are going to continue to move through
01:19this region slowly.
01:20The storm motions have been relatively slow, but, again, that's leading to some localized flash flooding.
01:27But the storms are bringing some damaging wind potential.
01:29You'll notice as we get closer to midnight, the storms will become much, much fewer in number.
01:35So this evening and tonight, still scattered storms out there.
01:37Charleston, Charlotte, Roanoke, and Virginia Beach.
01:40Even a few stragglers into Jackson, Mississippi, Montgomery, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Dallas.
01:45Dallas hasn't seen a whole lot of rain lately.
01:47In fact, we've gone quite a while since we've had a tenth of an inch in one single day there
01:51in Dallas.
01:52But, man, look at the heat.
01:54A low tonight of 83 in Dallas.
01:56That is a warm, warm night.
01:58And we're going to find some progress into Saturday with a little less intense heat in the southeast.
02:04But the scorching heat holds in Texas, and we're going to have scattered storms.
02:07Sunday, still hot in the interior.
02:10Scattered storms for the coast.
02:11But look at this next week.
02:13Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, frequent thunderstorms here.
02:15There are rounds of downpours across the south.
02:18More drought relief.
02:19And then later next week, there might be a more concentrated period of time, Wednesday and Thursday,
02:23when we have more rounds of downpours fed by very moist air out of the Gulf.
02:28And the truffle set up over the spine of the mountains.
