00:00The Sinking City 2 may look like Resident Evil and Lovecraft had a creepy baby,
00:04but it pushed me through a true horror ringer, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I screamed
00:07more through it than I did Resident Evil Requiem. When something goes wrong during a dream ritual
00:12conducted by occultist partners and lovers Calvin Rafferty and Faye Bennett, only Cal wakes up.
00:17Searching for a cure for his slumbering love thrusts him into probing the dark corners of
00:21Arkham as it's gripped by a supernatural flood that brings horrors from the depths. Spooky.
00:26The bulk of The Sinking City 2 revolves around exploring a sequence of big areas that pleasingly
00:31spiral into complicated spaces filled with themed keys, puzzles, and a large amount of optional
00:36upgrades to find. The Lovecraftian elements are additive to survival horror. It's a polished,
00:40modern, and confidently designed game, and the unpredictable moments made me sweat in the best
00:45way. However, the gauntlets and bosses struggle to land, areas can feel disconnected, and the final
00:50couple of hours are a bit dull. Despite the odd misstep, The Sinking City 2 worked phenomenally
00:55well, bursting with forbidden ideas that its survival horror contemporaries could do with learning from.
