00:19If you're not eating properly, if you're stressed, that can all play a big havoc on your immune
00:25system. And once your immune system is sort of compromised, then it means you're much
00:30more likely to get coughs and colds and viruses.
00:43The gut plays a really important role in immune health. It actually accounts for more than 60%
00:49of our immune system. And that comes from the friendly bacteria in the gut. So there's good
00:54bacteria and bad bacteria in the gut. And keeping up those good bacteria and feeding those good
01:00bacteria really helps to keep our immune system strong.
01:14So to stay healthy over the winter period, my advice would be, first of all, to eat well.
01:19So to get a good five-a-day fruit and vegetables. And also to eat protein, because we know that
01:25eating meat and fish can boost the immune system. Try and get some exercise. And finally, to have
01:31a look at some sensible supplements. So something like a vitamin D tablet or a vitamin C and prebiotic,
01:39like bio-immuno, which feeds the good bacteria in the gut and can support the immune system.
01:54I think many people haven't heard of a prebiotic, actually. The beauty of taking a prebiotic is it's not
02:00digested by the stomach. So it gets all the way down into the gut and actually feeds those friendly
02:06bacteria and supports the immune system.
02:19Well, obviously, at this time of year, there's lots of coughs and colds around,
02:23and we can't avoid socializing with friends and family. So my best advice would be to eat well,
02:29get plenty of sleep, and also try and relax, because we know that stress doesn't do your immune system
02:35any good. So that will really help to prevent those coughs and colds.
