00:00Recently looking at 1977 horror film Shot Waves.
00:05A group of tourists on a yacht stumble on an island haunted by Nazi zombies who come up out of
00:14the water.
00:15John Carradine is the boat captain.
00:17Peter Cushing plays SS Commander holed up in an abandoned hotel.
00:24Others in this cast, Brooke Adams has some good scenes.
00:27Fred Butch, Jack Davidson, Luke Halperin, DJ Sidney, and Don Stout.
00:33I reviewed this film and very quickly was drawn to the future stars.
00:38Cushing also in the original George Lucas directed sci-fi epic released the same year Shot Waves.
00:47He played Grand Moff Tarkin, Commander of the Death Star.
00:51Now there are another group of references in this movie apparently to Natalie Portman's future role as Queen Amidala in
01:01the Star Wars prequel movies.
01:03There's a lot of language concerning ships, boats.
01:08She's the mother of Leia Organa, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker.
01:14Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill's characters.
01:16Alright, so Brooke Adams, and she was in 1978 Sci-Fi Horror Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
01:24A re-adaptation of the 56th film starring Kevin McCarthy, Donald Sutherland, Leonard Nimoy, Veronica Cartwright, and Jeff Goldblum also
01:35in this.
01:36Here's a possible future connection to a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Thor Ragnarok, in 2017.
01:44The third movie in the series, directed by Taika Waititi.
01:49Chris Hemsworth played the hero in this.
01:52Tom Hiddleston was antagonist Loki.
01:55Notably, Natalie Portman did not play.
01:58Jane Foster, Goldblum plays the alien grandmaster in Ragnarok.
02:04I mentioned Elvis Presley.
02:05He has a lot of links to Elvis through his movie roles.
02:10See Into the Night in 85, for example.
02:13Bruce McGill plays an Elvis impersonator, Charlie, in this.
02:18So, at 25 minutes 48 seconds, note the arrival of the group at the hotel.
02:27It shows some of the exterior shots, truly palatial.
02:31And I thought this reminiscent to some of the shots of the structures in the Star Wars movies, the halls,
02:41the galleries, etc.
02:42At around 34 minutes, we are introduced to Cushing's character.
02:48And note the chandelier.
02:49You may be able to make out the shape of a crown in this.
02:55Possibly a hint to royalty.
02:58Pierre Cushing's friend and associate, Christopher Lee, were teamed together in the cast of many movies.
03:06Lee also had a part in Star Wars.
03:09He was in episodes 2 and 3.
03:12As a Jedi Master turned to the dark side, Count Dooku.
03:17I thought movie director Luke Besson's name worth mentioning.
03:22Besson directed Portman, Jean Reno, and Gary Oldman in 94 action thriller, Layon the Professional.
03:31And later envisioned the 97 sci-fi action film, The Fifth Element.
03:36Starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm, and Chris Tucker.
03:41Actor Luke Perry has a small part in this.
03:45Here we have a link to creator and writer J. Michael Straczynski.
03:50Perry had a part in his post-apocalyptic TV series on Showtime, Jeremiah.
03:57And this ran between 2002 and 2004.
04:00Straczynski conceived the story for the original Thor film released in 2011.
