00:01Some parts of the UK will get some very wet weather during the next few days.
00:06Some parts of the UK desperately need rain.
00:09Unfortunately, those two parts of the UK aren't the same part of the UK.
00:13Ordinarily, when you see a map like this showing low pressure and a series of weather
00:16fronts crossing the country from the west, you'd expect rain and there is plenty of rain
00:22for Scotland, Northern Ireland and some heavy showers likely Western England as well as
00:27Wales.
00:28But it appears that the east and south east continues to have a rain shield.
00:33Very little of this rainfall reaching those parched parts of the country.
00:40Meanwhile the persistent and at times heavy rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland breaks
00:45up into thundery showers by the afternoon.
00:48Scattered downpours with some rumbles of thunder for Western England as well as Wales.
00:52More frequent showers and thunderstorms for parts of Scotland and more especially Northern
00:57Ireland where these showers cause 20 to 30 millimetres in just an hour or two and therefore
01:04there's the risk of localised flooding.
01:06Yes, some parts of the UK need the rain but we don't need 20 to 30 millimetres in two
01:11hours to cause localised flooding as well as thunder and lightning.
01:15So there is a yellow thunderstorm warning for Northern Ireland from midday up until 9pm.
01:20Meanwhile, very little rainfall for parts of the Midlands, eastern and southeastern England.
01:25Sunny spells, not quite as widely sunny as Monday.
01:29Nor not quite as hot either with temperatures fairly widely in the mid to high 20s and it's
01:36eastern England where the highest temperatures will be reached.
01:39Low 30s likely here.
01:40A more humid feel however, a lot of cloud across the country and what we'll likely see into Tuesday
01:47evening is that these showers will continue.
01:50Some persistent rain for Northern Scotland, some low cloud here as well and then this persistent
01:54rain swings back into Northern Ireland and parts of Western Scotland by the end of the
01:58night.
01:59Further showers elsewhere, even the odd shower for East England but not amounting to much
02:03at all.
02:03A lot of cloud across the country and therefore another warm and muggy night to come, temperatures
02:09widely staying in the mid to high teens.
02:12But Wednesday does promise at least something a little fresher because a cold front moving
02:18through.
02:19You can just about see this line of showers fading away but crossing eastern England during
02:25the morning.
02:25That then opens the door to a change in wind direction, northwesterlies sweeping across the
02:30country and we'll notice the lower humidities and the lower temperatures fairly widely with
02:35the temperatures reaching mid to high 20s rather than the low 30s and high teens more likely
02:42towards the north and west or even the mid teens.
02:45Temperatures a little below average especially for Northern Scotland where it stays very damp
02:49with some heavy and at times thundery rain and lively thunderstorms through central and
02:53eastern Scotland.
02:54That's the focus for thunderstorms on Wednesday.
02:56An area of rain sinks south through Northern Ireland into southern Scotland and Northern
03:00England through the day but very little rainfall once again for the southern half of the country.
03:05Sunshine and a keen breeze but not much meaningful rain.
03:11Then as we go into Wednesday night as well as Thursday rain moves into central and eventually
03:16eastern parts.
03:17Dryer and brighter weather for many however.
03:20Another system brings some wet weather into the north on Friday but again not much rainfall
03:24in the south.
