00:03need to know to decorate a really cute homemade birthday cake. If you're stacking your cake in
00:06layers, you know it's important to have flat tops. You've probably seen some people cut off the tops
00:09to make them flat, but this is my favorite hack. Once they come out of the oven, let them cool
00:12for
00:12about 10 minutes and then flip them upside down onto a cooling rack. This helps the tops flatten
00:16and you don't have to waste any cake. My next tip is to keep the crumbs from getting into the
00:19icing,
00:20you can throw your cakes in the freezer. Canned icing is a little too loose to ice a cake
00:23efficiently, so if this is all you have, dump it into your mixer. We want to add more air to
00:27this
00:27icing to make it nice, light, and fluffy. Now it's going to be much easier to ice our cake. When
00:31you're ready to assemble your cake, if you don't already have one of those revolving cake stands,
00:34you can use the microwave plate and the little wheels out of your microwave. First, we're going
00:37to add a little icing to the bottom to make sure that it does not slide around its little plate.
00:41We're going to add some icing. This is going to separate the two layers of cake. The texture is
00:44perfect, just the way it should be. I almost forgot. Take a piece of parchment, cut it or tear it
00:48into a
00:48few pieces and lay it underneath your cake tray to keep the icing from getting everywhere. Place the second
00:52layer on top and then finish icing your cake. This microwave plate is making this so much easier.
00:56So if you're not super confident when it comes to making little swirls or decorations on top of
01:00your cake, just pipe your design onto parchment paper on a baking sheet. This is definitely going
01:03to give you a chance to practice and also choose the best swirls that you want to add on top

01:07the cake. These just go in the freezer. Now that we're done, we can add these little puffy clouds
01:10right on top. Just add your sprinkles. She is cute. This looks pretty good for all the things that we
01:14didn't have. And now for the best part. Piece of cake.
