00:02Local and foreign visitors flock to Georgetown for a rare opportunity to explore some of its historic buildings that are
00:08not usually open to the public, as part of the Georgetown Heritage Celebrations 2026.
00:13Among the heritage sites welcoming visitors were Nam Hui Wui Kun, Makam Da Tokoya, Thien Hu Temple, Pinang Hainan Association,
00:23Sun Tuck Wui Kun, and Lu Pen Hong, the Cantonese Carpenters Guildhouse on Love Lane, built in 1801.
00:30The historic building open house is one of the highlights of the four-day celebration, giving the public exclusive access
00:36to 12 heritage buildings across the city.
00:38Organized by Georgetown World Heritage Incorporated, GTWHI, the event commemorates the 18th anniversary of Georgetown's inscription as a UNESCO World
00:49Heritage Site.
00:50The anniversary, which falls on Monday, is a state public holiday in Penang.
00:54I think it's important for us to know that we are Malaysians, we enjoy being a Malaysian because of the
01:01multiculturalism, the sharing of stories, the willingness to understand each other.
01:07And I think finding that balance and peacefulness is one of the very important missions of Georgetown World Heritage Incorporated
01:14as a site manager for Georgetown in ESCO World Heritage Site.
01:18Among the visitors was content creator Joyce Leong from Bukit Myrtajam, who said attending the celebrations has become an annual
01:24family tradition.
01:25Today I bring my husband and also my son come here and visit all the temples and also the open
01:32house.
01:32We will come here every year for the heritage celebration and normally we will visit all the open house and
01:40also the temples.
01:42I like to bring my son to come for this type of festival because he can learn a lot.
01:47Dr. Arang expects about 30,000 people to attend this year's celebrations.
01:51She said GTWHI is placing special emphasis on engaging children, hoping the festival will inspire the younger generation to appreciate
02:00Georgetown's heritage while creating lasting memories.
