00:00Leaving it in that position when you're strumming sometimes is knock it out, so I just tape it up to
00:04keep it up there
00:04I don't want to break strings, so I use kind of a softer pick
00:33Hi, I'm William Keegan, I'm in Together Pangea, and we're in Chicago playing a show to support our new record
00:41Eat Myself
00:42and we're at the Bottom Lounge
00:45Alright, I'm going to take you through my gear today
00:47This is my Fender, Mexican Fender Strat
00:51I got it in like, I thought it was like 2011, 2012
00:56for $100, I still just play the same guitar
01:00I've bought other strats, I've gotten other strats that I keep and I like
01:04but I don't play them as much as I play this guitar
01:07I don't know what it is, it just feels right to me
01:12and I put Fender Custom Shop 69's for the pickups
01:19that was the only thing I replaced, everything else is just as it was when I got it
01:23I only use the neck pickup ever
01:26and so, you know, leaving it in that position when you're strumming sometimes
01:31you just knock it out, so I just tape it up to keep it up there
01:36Yeah, and because the neck's kind of, you know, it's kind of low-end-y
01:41I always just crank the tone knobs, kind of balance it out
01:46I'm not really sure how I came to that
01:47I think I just like the way it sounds when it's strummed
01:50and the neck pickup, like it sounds fuller to me
01:52Okay, I use Ernie Ball, I think they're 10's, regular slinkies
01:59and the tuning's just standard, standard tuning
02:02These strings, the last time I changed these strings was probably five or six years ago
02:09I don't change strings ever
02:13I don't know why, once I get comfortable with it, I just don't want to mess with anything
02:16This is just some kind of Frankenstrat
02:20Like, I don't even, there's no name on it
02:24I just got it at a kind of random guitar shop
02:26and I just thought it was kind of ugly but cool
02:31The plan was to put custom 69's in it
02:34so that it kind of matched the sound of my other guitar
02:36but I haven't done it yet
02:38and I've actually, I don't think I've ever needed to use it live yet
02:43It's just a backup guitar
02:46and I just got it because I thought it looked kind of weird and cool
02:51but we'll see, maybe tonight I'll use it, who knows
02:54Okay, yeah, just a tuner
02:57and then this boost is just a volume boost that I use to gain a little bit
03:02but mostly it's just to make the clean guitar louder
03:06and I think that the spark does that pretty good
03:09A lot of pedals like this I feel like sort of change the tone
03:13or they add some dirt or something to it
03:15and I didn't want that
03:16I just wanted the clean signal just louder
03:19and that does that pretty good
03:21I got this T-Rex a couple years ago
03:25I used to use two different distortion pedals
03:29I had a Max in and I forgot what the other one was
03:33but it was like two levels of distortion
03:35one was kind of a fuzz
03:36one was kind of just distortion
03:38and this kind of has both
03:40so the this side has a boost that makes it kind of fuzzy
03:45and then this is just kind of a regular distortion
03:50but you can just click them back and forth
03:52and you don't have to turn one off and turn the other one back on
03:55so it's just kind of an ease of use thing
03:58and I like the way it sounds
04:01and this is a Max in
04:04chorus pedal I don't use it that much
04:06I use it for some songs
04:08I like Max in a lot
04:09I like a lot of their stuff
04:13this I don't know how I even got this
04:16I think it was like we shared our rehearsal space with other bands
04:19and I feel like I just found it on the ground one day
04:21and it's a delay
04:23but it's a really clear delay
04:25like it doesn't add any tone or anything
04:30I looked it up once I think they're pretty cheap
04:32I think it's like a $40 delay or something
04:35but I always just like the sound of it
04:37and the holy grail
04:40is just for this tour
04:42because the spring reverb on my amp
04:44broke and I didn't have time to fix it
04:46so it's just
04:48and I just barely
04:50I have like just a little bit of room on it
04:53just so that it's not completely dead
04:56it's a Music Man 65 reverb
04:59the reverb on it doesn't work right now
05:01but this amp has been on all of our recordings
05:05like I got it in 2011 I think
05:09and it's been on every record
05:10it's the amp that I've always used
05:13and I really like the break up
05:16it's um
05:19it's like a hybrid solid state
05:22and a tube
05:24I think it's the preamp is solid state
05:26and then the uh
05:28power is a tube
05:31and I just feel like it sounds really good
05:33I don't change it from room to room
05:35but because I just feel like
05:39you know strats can be kind of bright
05:41and even even when I have my guitar
05:44on the the neck pickup and stuff
05:46I still like to tone down the brightness a little bit
05:48so I don't turn the treble more than like three or four
05:51and then I keep the bass and the mids in the middle
05:56the volume is like adds some grit
05:59and then the master is just the actual volume
06:01so I always have a little bit of a little bit of grit
06:04a little bit of distortion going on
06:08and this is a fender
06:10it's a 212 uh supersonic cab
06:13it's got um Celestion vintage 30s
06:17two of them
06:19and it's just stock
06:20I just got this from fender exactly like that
06:24and I feel like they sound really good together
06:27I use 0.73s
06:28uh I guess I don't want a hard pick
06:32like I've been using the same strings forever
06:34and I don't want to break strings
06:36so I use kind of a softer pick
06:38and then I I dig a little bit but not too much
06:40but I like the the ones with the grips on them too
06:43I'm again William Keegan from Together Pangea
