00:00I wanted something over-the-top and ridiculous for the over-the-top ridiculous songs that we have.
00:05Kind of my signature, if there is a signature, sound for me.
00:09Yeah, I'm just a bridge bitch.
00:11I can't help it.
00:30Hey, I'm Jordan with the Frights.
00:39I'm here in Chicago, Illinois.
00:41We're touring the new record we have out called Ready When You Are.
00:45I'm going to give you a little rig rundown.
00:48So more importantly in this guitar is this thing.
00:51It's called a guitar cable.
00:52This is priceless.
00:54It's worth about $1,000.
00:57It's 100% silver and it's blue.
00:59This is an Ernie Ball.
01:02100%.
01:03It's custom made.
01:04Silver.
01:05It's made for me.
01:06No one else has this cable.
01:07As you can see, it's blue.
01:09And that's the magic.
01:12This is my guitar right now.
01:14My sweet little baby.
01:16It's a Gibson ES339.
01:19I played a 335 on the Gallus Humor record, our previous record, and fell in love with it in the studio.
01:27And I found the closest thing I could within my budget.
01:30I got this one.
01:31And it's red.
01:32I like colors.
01:33I'm always on the bridge pickup.
01:35Pretty much every guitar I ever use.
01:37And I got everything just cranked up all the way.
01:40Just because I'm not one of those fancy guitar players that does all the weird stuff.
01:45Usually just in standard tuning for all the Fright stuff, we're half a step down.
01:50The regular Ernie Ball slinkies, just because that's what we get.
01:55And yeah, other than that, I usually tend to change my strings when they break.
02:02So these strings are a couple months old.
02:05So I really just like to keep them on as long as I can.
02:08I'm using two guitars.
02:09I usually kind of use this to accompany Mikey on his acoustic songs.
02:14Just because, I don't know, I think it's just an aesthetic thing.
02:17Both my guitars kind of sound pretty close to the same.
02:19So I think it just looks a little more homely and warm with an acoustic guitar.
02:25Strictly looks.
02:27And this guy is just a recent purchase of mine.
02:31It's a 90's Gibson Flying V.
02:34Nothing fancy.
02:36I just like to, I wanted something over the top and ridiculous for the over the top, ridiculous songs that we have.
02:43So this kind of spoke to me.
02:45Yeah, same thing.
02:46I always, all my guitars, I've always gravitated towards the bridge pickup.
02:51Except for recording maybe the occasional messing around with the neck position.
02:57But yeah, I'm just a bridge bitch.
02:59I can't help it.
03:00I believe this is all stock.
03:01I bought it used.
03:02But yeah, it seems to be just your regular old Gibson Flying V.
03:08I'm going to take you through the chain.
03:10And I'm going to be honest with you, I don't really get on the technical side of guitar stuff.
03:16So it just is as it is.
03:19It's easier for, it's more based on where my feet are and where I can do my little pedal dance and kind of make it easy on myself.
03:26So yeah, I got some standard Boss Delay, which is a pretty crucial part of my thing for years.
03:33Along with reverb, because I don't have reverb on my amp.
03:35So this kind of substitutes for that.
03:37This is the only particular pedal that really is kind of one of a kind for me.
03:42A gentleman by the name of Randy Bemis built it for me.
03:46He built my amp as well.
03:47And this thing is just kind of my signature, if there is a signature sound for me as far as my gain, my overdrive, my distortion.
03:58And this is a Boss Harmonist.
04:00I don't really use it for much.
04:02I've messed around with it.
04:04It does a million things, but I just use it to kind of make this warped out sound at the end of songs.
04:09So.
04:10And this, actually, the band that's on tour with us, Remote Drive, they were sweet enough to gift us fuzz pedals.
04:17And I've been trying it out.
04:19It's by Mercy Fuzz, as you can see.
04:22It's just an over-the-top fuzz pedal, and I've been enjoying it for just kind of over-the-top distortion stuff.
04:28Typically, I have this guy on deck.
04:31I've used it on a couple songs on our latest record.
04:34But we're not playing those songs, so I just kind of cast it to the side and having fun with this fuzz that I've been gifted.
04:41This Boss pedal board is a staple of my life for probably 20 years.
04:45I just love it.
04:46It's really convenient.
04:48It's kind of ready to go when you buy it.
04:50And it folds up into a little briefcase, and it's hard.
04:53And I don't have to worry about anything getting busted or anything like that.
04:57And I've had this one for probably the whole time I've been in the Frights, so 10 years or so at this point.
05:03So, yeah.
05:04This amp I've had for about 15 years, and I absolutely love it.
05:08A gentleman by the name of Randy Bemis built it for me.
05:11It's pretty much a cross between an AC30 and a JCM800.
05:16More leaning towards a JCM800, which is kind of my bread and butter thing.
05:21Gibson JCM800.
05:24So, it's just a beautiful sounding amp.
05:27Low wattage.
05:28I think it's maybe 40 watts.
05:30And it just does it for me.
05:32I love it.
05:33And I'm just running it through a couple of an Avatar cab.
05:38I think that's what the brand is called.
05:40And I have a couple of Helitone speakers.
05:42I got a 60 watt at the bottom, and I just like to mic up the bottom one,
05:46because I don't know.
05:47I've had sound guys tell me it sounds good, so you trust the sound guys.
05:51Unlike Mikey, my stuff is pretty dialed in.
05:54Like our old TM did this, and this was kind of the way I've set it for years and years.
05:58I just kind of figured it out.
06:00I kind of like to scale back from a lot of the shrill high-end stuff.
06:05So, I got my presence pretty much non-existent, and I got my bass cranked all the way up.
06:10I like a fairly good amount of mids, and I just like to run it pretty even like that.
06:15It's not really, I mean, if I kind of push up the presence anymore and the treble,
06:22it just gets a little too shrill for me.
06:24So, it's kind of just where I like it.
06:27Alright, picks. I always have these, what are they, Dunlop?
06:31Well, this one's just some imitation, but yeah.
06:34These guys, I've played these forever.
06:37I'll occasionally play the a little bit lighter gauge, but these ones are perfect.
06:41I'm kind of heavy-handed, so I need a little bit of flexibility if I play the heavy picks.
06:46I'll just break a string in like five minutes.
06:48The Frights have a brand new record out, Ready When You Are.
06:52It's the best record we've ever made, and I don't care what anyone says.
06:56We had a lot of fun making it. Go buy it. Somewhere.
