00:22After the last pandemic, the EU laid out protocols to improve its speed,
00:26coordination and response to cross-border health threats.
00:29Two of them matter the most right now.
00:32The first one requires countries to alert each other within 24 hours through the
00:36early warning and response system.
00:38The second is more about control and coordination.
00:42Setting out procedures for joint approval and stockpiling of vaccines and medicines,
00:47one of the biggest battles during Covid-19.
00:50But there's a gap.
00:51When it comes to quarantine and prevention measures, there is no unified protocol.
00:55To each country its own measures, no single European playbook.
00:59It could be a problem.
01:00But right now, something interesting is happening.
01:03The US, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and other countries dealing with antivirus cases
01:08are in fact reacting very similarly using WHO guidance.
01:13A six-week quarantine for high-risk contacts, PCR testing, strict monitoring,
01:18limited movements and safe distancing.
01:20So, Europe is more prepared than six years ago.
01:23But preparedness doesn't always mean readiness.
01:26And whether that difference matters, we might only discover it in the next pandemic.
