00:00The Dolphins trade back from 11 with the Dallas Cowboys,
00:04and they take the Cowboys to Caleb Downs.
00:07The Dolphins took Caden Proctor from Alabama,
00:11and then the Dolphins at 30 didn't go to 30.
00:16They went up to 27,
00:17and they took Chris Johnson cornerback from San Diego State.
00:23This was Chris Johnson on how fired up he is to be a Miami Dolphin.
00:27Yeah, man, definitely surprised me, man.
00:29You know, just sitting there watching the draft,
00:31obviously seeing different things go down.
00:33And, you know, I finally saw my phone ring, and I answered.
00:37And, you know, my service was a little spotty,
00:39so I couldn't really hear too.
00:40I had to start moving around the house.
00:42But once I was able to talk with everybody, man,
00:44it was just a great feeling, man, just understanding, you know,
00:47a team values me enough to be able to trade up and grab me, man.
00:50And like you said, pre-draft meetings went great with them, man.
00:54I definitely connected with them and their staff.
00:56And, man, I'm just excited to get out there and play some ball, man.
00:58Yeah, he was pretty much regarded as, like, the fourth top guy.
01:03But the thing is, most people kept McCoy in the top two.
01:06And the thing with McCoy is obviously the red flag with the help.
01:08And then his teammate Hood is there as well.
01:11So, but this is, you know, this is a guy who, you know,
01:14lit it up in the post-draft process as well after, you know,
01:18having all the success that he had at San Diego State.
01:20And hopefully he goes up there with, you know, best San Diego State athletes,
01:25Kawhi Leonard, Tony Gwynn, Marshall Falk.
01:28So I was looking at the draft and, I mean, it seems like O-line, D-line dominated.
01:42Right?
01:43Especially the bottom half of it, for sure.
01:46Right.
01:47You knew Mendoza was going to go first.
01:49And then, you know, you got edge rushers.
01:52You got a couple of Carnell Tate, who's a beast.
01:56I'm not going to even say that he's not.
02:00Kansas City moved up.
02:04Then, then you got, he had three Ohio State players in the top seven.
02:10Yep.
02:12And then you had kind of.
02:14The surprising one is probably, and I guess this is probably,
02:17they just didn't want to give up the talent, but the Giants taking Reese.
02:21It's like, they, they are so flush with, with those guys who get after the quarterback.
02:25And they swear they're not traded Thibodeau.
02:27So, but they took Abdul Carter last year.
02:31It's, and they, they still have Brian Burns on the team.
02:34And like, I guess there's a little bit of Reese.
02:36He kind of tried out pass rusher.
02:38Maybe he'll be a linebacker.
02:39They'll use them all kind of all over the place.
02:41I kind of think he's going to be like an inside outside guy, you know.
02:47But, but yeah, very.
02:49And the thing is, is what makes Arbel Reese appealing is he is a freak of nature when it comes
02:59to athletic.
03:01As far as speed, power, and stuff like that.
03:05And, and that's kind of one of those guys you can move around.
03:08Um, um, but the funny thing about it is, is like, they almost had a two-pronged plan because their
03:18next pick was going to be, uh, offensive lineman.
03:23Yep.
03:23And Fano went to the Browns.
03:27And so then they got Maui Noah.
03:30Um.
03:31Maui Noah says he's going to die for Jackson Dart.
03:33Careful, dude.
03:33This Jackson Dart, he's a little bit of a loose cannon.
03:35You know.
03:36Right.
03:37Careful with your words, uh, Francis.
03:39I don't want you, I don't want you treading into danger.
03:41Jackson Dart seems like the type of guy who will like, uh, he'll jump off like a boat and be
03:45like, it'll be fun.
03:46Right.
03:47Now, my other question is, is that just as football goes, right?
03:56Regardless of how talented a safety is, when you think of how defense works and what the importance is of
04:07a defense, is Caleb Downs, forget the talent, is that a top 10 valuable position?
04:17You see what I'm saying?
04:20I mean, it's a tough one because it's like, is it more so than like taking love?
04:26At three?
04:27You know, is it more so than taking Tate at four?
04:30When was the last, when was the last safety drafted that high, come back and make that much of an
04:37impact?
04:37When I was in Cleveland, we took, um.
04:39Eric Berry?
04:40We took, no, Eric, um, not Berry.
04:44Um, we took Eric Turner, number two.
04:49And he was a safety.
04:52So, uh, like, I, I don't, I don't, I don't, again, I don't, I don't, I don't, I'm not sure
04:58what, and even when they, when Dylan, uh, Thineman went from Oregon, they were talking about him.
05:08Like, he runs a 4-3, he can play over the slot.
05:12He, you know, they were talking about all the different things that he could do.
05:16Mm-hmm.
05:16That, even though he's listed as a safety, you see him doing a lot of things.
05:23Sure.
05:23And he went 25th.
05:26Mm-hmm.
05:27So, I, I don't know, and that's, that's another, that's another move that I'm almost wondering, you traded up to
05:36get him, um, how much of an impact is he gonna make?
05:43Just at that position.
05:45Yeah, I think that's the other thing why everybody's surprised the Chiefs even traded up, because they're like, was somebody
05:49gonna jump and get Delane, too, that much?
05:51Right.
05:51Obviously, that's the, the, the tell that they got, because they felt the need to go do it, um, but,
05:58you know.
05:59I thought cornerbacks would start getting taken after the Miami pick, right?
06:07Mm-hmm.
06:07Only because, as I said before, 75% of the league plays zone, so that means there's more, more of
06:17an emphasis on getting after the quarterback and not giving up big plays.
06:21I would have had to guess the reason they felt like they had to, because of the McDuffie trade, they
06:26probably thought the Chiefs were gonna go after him, and they were gonna get both corners.
06:30Right.
06:30Maybe that's what they thought, because that's, and that's the reason they felt like they had to go up to
06:33two.
06:33Well, I got, again, see, playing the draft, like, you, you, you're not, and sometimes you don't draft on the
06:43value of the pick, you draft on the circumstances of the pick, right?
06:48Right, and that's one of the circumstances that you have, you know, pointed out, that he's a good player, but
06:57I don't know if I want Kansas City, right, or another team to get the player, we'll take him.
07:05Yeah, and they raved about Johnson's versatility, too, like, they're saying he could be slot, he could be boundaries, you
07:10know, big, they feel like he can do a lot of, they even mentioned with his skills, he could be
07:14a safety, he's like, he's not gonna be a safety, but he could be a safety.
07:17Right.
07:17So, you know, he was, he was fluffing up his pick, as, as you'd expect, he's, he's, he's swaggering a
07:23little bit.
07:23Well, the fact that he's a big boy means that he does have some versatility.
07:27And that's the thing that stood out the most, like, I was like, all right, well, this guy very clearly
07:32is like, I'm, I'm drafting big, big, big corners, big receivers, big, big linemen.
07:37They said they want to be more physical, and that's one way of doing it.
07:41Yeah, yeah, this was a silly yesterday, no apologies, he says, for his picks.
07:46Downs and Bain are marvelous players, and I understand the question, and I, I think those guys are going to
07:51be very successful in this league, no doubt about it.
07:54Again, we thought, we thought Proctor was, was rare.
07:58His height, weight, speed, production, the things that he can do on the football field for a man his size,
08:06he's an outlier.
08:07There's, there's, there's not many like him.
08:10That's, it has, you know, it's no shot at Caleb Downs, a phenomenal, phenomenal football player.
08:16And he'll have a great career, and we would have loved to have him here.
08:19But we had a lot of conviction on, on Proctor being a very unique player in this draft, and one
08:24that, that we can build around for years.
08:28You know, we invested in Malik, and it was important for us to protect him, to make sure that he
08:32has time to do the things that he needs to do, and keep him healthy.
08:36You know, so that was part of the conversation as well.
08:40So, yeah, we, we're thrilled with the pick.
08:42We're happy to add him.
08:43We have a lot of faith in the person, and, and we think he's going to be a really good
08:48player here.
08:49You know, no apologies.
08:51I was asking for an apology, Sully, but he's very fired up.
08:55He's, he's very, he's, he's, he's, he did say, though, he was asked, I appreciate, I think it was, I
08:59think Josh Moser asked him this.
09:01He, he was asked if, if he was one of the players he dreamed about, and he said, no, neither
09:07of these players are the players he dreamed about.
09:09But then he kind of, like, finagled the answer, and he was claiming that, like, I think it might have
09:14been, like, a flashback dream, because it was in Green Bay, because I dreamt that we were taking tags, and
09:18our room is all digital.
09:21I'm like, hmm, all right, so now it's a flashback dream.
09:24I thought you were dreaming of the future, dude.
09:27I would say this, that you have nine offensive linemen going to first round.
09:33Yeah.
09:34That's, like, that goes to show you where just the league in general is thinking.
09:41What'd you think about the, uh, the lineman the Patriots took whose draft video on ESPN was him dancing?
09:47From Utah?
09:49Yeah.
09:50Yeah.
09:52I'm like.
09:53I guess they got to lighten the mood in New England, the way things are going on over there.
09:57I mean, maybe he's got good feet.
10:02I don't know.
10:04Didn't somebody, didn't he ask, how are you, coach?
10:06And go just like, it's about you right now.
10:08How am I?
10:10Yeah.
10:11It'd be great if you told him.
10:12I gotta be honest with you, Caleb.
10:13Not great.
10:14It's been kind of a tough week.
10:17I mean, is it, I mean, you know what else is amazing?
10:22Two offensive linemen from Utah.
10:24Mm-hmm.
10:25Well, like, it's just something you don't normally see.
10:30You know what I mean?
10:31Oh, man.
10:33Or Indiana having two first-round picks.
10:36I know.
10:37Jets had three first-round picks.
10:38They went up and got Omar Cooper late.
10:40If you guys didn't stay up past the Dolphins pick, the Jets traded up.
10:43They got Omar Cooper from Indiana.
10:45They had a fun draft.
10:46I mean, like, I don't know if it's going to be good, but Vlad was peacocking last night.
10:50Yeah.
10:51Oh, dude.
10:51He's got Kenyon Sadiq.
10:53He's like, we're going to be like the old Patriots because we got Mason Taylor and Sadiq.
10:57And we got Omar Cooper and Gary Wolf.
10:59They got a lot of great weapons.
11:01Kenyon Sadiq is closer to a wide receiver.
11:03Dude can flat-out run.
11:04The problem is they got Geno Smith.
11:08Oh, man.
