00:00Now let's get to the picks.
00:03And I'm going to ask you, because I know how the local people are thinking.
00:12All they say is Bain was available, and you didn't take him.
00:17Yeah, before we get into that, let's just see the headlines quick.
00:20Brought to you by Doral Volkswagen, home of the Pricito, our lowest price.
00:23Visit us at Doral Volkswagen or DoralVolkswagen.com.
00:28Yeah, like, look, the Dolphins end up taking Caden Proctor, offensive lineman from Alabama at 12.
00:34They traded back.
00:36They made a trade with the Cowboys at 11.
00:38So that was another thing that was interesting about the day with the whole coverage is because with the way
00:44that the picks were going, it was funny because, dude, I was refreshing like a fiend.
00:49And so, you know, it's a lot of said to say, think, dude, my finger hurts.
00:53I keep it refreshed.
00:55I was refreshing like crazy, and it was interesting because the Cowboys traded.
01:01We had one guy say they were taking Caleb Downs, but it was like they kept, like, all the picks
01:06kept getting multiple people.
01:07And then, like, the Downs, when only one guy was, they're like, all right, well, let's make sure it's Caleb
01:11Downs because we've been rolling so far, but we're not sure.
01:14But they end up taking Caleb Downs, the Dolphins pick up two fifth-round picks.
01:18And so we get to 12.
01:19And then what happened that was weird is 13 leaked.
01:25And so all on the internet, they said, oh, yeah, Ty Simpson's going to the Rams.
01:29And we're like, wait a minute, wait a minute.
01:32What happened with the Dolphins pick?
01:34And so we're all sitting here, like, is Reuben Bain going to be there for the Dolphins?
01:38Because Maui Noah, we're watching the draft fall.
01:41Carnell Tate goes four.
01:42And we're like, all right, a little higher than we expected.
01:45But this is how it plays out.
01:46This is how it goes.
01:48We talked about this.
01:49Right.
01:50And so that happens.
01:51And then the big one that I think really brought everybody down was the Chiefs traded up to get Delane.
01:58And we were like, oh, because I always felt like the way the mocks were going, Delane was going to
02:02be like the consolation prize of the top 10.
02:05That's the way most people went.
02:06So he goes six to Kansas City, who was a big, you know, rumored Bain team.
02:11So now you're sitting there and you're like, man, if they get past the commanders, could be sitting.
02:16I mean, we were like, maybe the Browns take him because you pair him with Miles Garrett, but probably not.
02:21No, they have they have Alex Wright returning.
02:24They that's why they got rid of Zedarius to Detroit is because they like Alex Wright.
02:32And so he was just hurt.
02:34So now he's returning.
02:36So they really like don't, you know, it really especially and you have to think of it this way.
02:42Like, right, there are teams and Cleveland's one of those teams that need a lot of help.
02:49Right.
02:50And I think even if they would have liked to draft Bain, and I'm gonna say that's the same thing
02:56about the Dolphins.
02:57When you have so many holes to fill, you kind of have to look at it as, OK, look, we
03:04need players everywhere.
03:07But when you look at our team, we have a lot of kind of depth at that position.
03:14So let's go get somebody else.
03:18Yes.
03:18So that ends up happening.
03:19Then I text you.
03:20I was like, oh, man, we may be headed towards the Sophie's choice of Canes here at 11.
03:26It looked like it.
03:27And then now we know it goes to the Giants.
03:30So then we hit 11, the trade happens, they end up taking downs, and we're sitting here, and there's just
03:36nothing.
03:37There's just, you know, it feels like forever.
03:39Believe it or not, I sent the text way before that, that they're not taking Bain.
03:44Did you know they weren't taking Bain, or you just had a feeling they weren't taking Bain?
03:47I just saw, like, the way the draft was going, right?
03:52It just seemed like all these teams that needed help on the offensive line, the way the picks were going,
04:03it was like, I better get one of these guys.
04:05And keep in mind, there's a lot of guys that would probably be drafted if it would have gone true
04:12to form, as far as the picks above the Dolphins.
04:18There would have been a lot of offensive linemen that would have been taken beforehand.
04:24But if you start taking, you know, those other players, these guys move down.
04:29And so now you're thinking, man, the only thing getting drafted is O-line, D-line, a random wide receiver,
04:37one running back.
04:38Ty Simpson went 13 to a good team, and I'm like, whoa.
04:43Yeah, that one is crazy.
04:44But that's, remember I told you, that's how the draft goes, man.
04:48The draft goes like, there's always going to be a team that likes somebody that everybody's like, give or take.
04:57So, I'm refreshing like crazy, I'm refreshing like crazy, and then I see Yanni Karakis, reporter from WPBF, is the
05:04one who's like, source, they're taking Cade and Proctor.
05:07And this is no disrespect to Yanni, I just don't see him break a ton of Dolphins news.
05:12And so, I'm just like, I'm hoping he's wrong.
05:15Like, I know that's a terrible thing.
05:16I'm like, no, no, no, no, because I want Bain.
05:18I'm not going to lie.
05:19I want Ruben Bain to go to the Cain.
05:21I want Ruben Bain to go to the Dolphins.
05:23And so, I'm just hoping like hell that Yanni Karakis got hacked.
05:27And he did it.
05:28He was spot on.
05:29He had it before anybody else that I saw on Twitter.
05:31And they take Caden Proctor, who is a ginormous lineman.
05:36He is a moose.
05:38You're going to have to coach him up a little bit.
05:40He, at times, is, here's what happens with guys like him.
05:48He's physically dominant, right?
05:51And so, a lot of times, he goes into a game thinking that I'm just going to overpower everybody.
05:59And sometimes, he gets lazy with his technique.
06:02Yeah.
06:02And that's, well, this is the thing that, and it's tough for me because I can't come out of this
06:09draft.
06:09I can't shake it because I keep watching Ruben Bain.
06:12And I watch him get, like, I thought for sure he was going to go to the Ravens because they
06:14get all the Hall of Fame canes.
06:16I was like, I thought that's where he was going to go.
06:18He's going to be a Raven.
06:19And they end up taking Vig Ione, who was another guy who was even mocked to the Dolphins more than
06:24Proctor was.
06:25You know, Proctor was kind of thought more like maybe 20-ish.
06:28And so, yeah, it was a little surprising.
06:32I'm not going to.
06:33Juice Nation is 100% correct.
06:37We've been complaining about building the trenches and screaming for the Dolphins to build the trenches.
06:44They finally do something to do that, and we're mad that they didn't take Bain.
06:48Yeah, but this is the thing with me.
06:51Like, the trenches are two sides.
06:52Like, that's not – it's not like a master.
06:54Yeah, but Bain's not a – Bain's not what you would consider a trench guy.
07:00Yeah, but he's tough.
07:01Like, it's like – it's one of these things for me that's – it's one of these things for me
07:07that, okay, you could still have lined it up and been like, we have our starting line.
07:12They don't really have anybody they know can get after the quarterback.
07:15Like, they think.
07:16Right.
07:16But they're having a guy who hasn't gotten to the quarterback in four years, and they have a first-round
07:20pick who regressed last year.
07:22Right.
07:22So, it's not like it wasn't a need either, but I think this is what ended up happening because I
07:30listened to John Eric Sullivan last night, and it's pretty clear he is a prototype size guy.
07:37And the one thing you can say about Reuben Bain is he doesn't have the prototype size.
07:41This guy is ogling over Caden Proctor's size.
07:44He did the same thing with the pick Chris Johnson, which I'm kind of into the San Diego State, but
07:48he raved about that.
07:49And I'm like – and he kind of mentioned this last week about physical traits.
07:53And I was like, oh, well, that's why he didn't get taken.
07:56Well, here's – I think here's the thing that I would say about Bain that maybe he was alluding to.
08:09Bain is a guy that you kind of build your D-line around, move him around.
08:15He does a lot of different things.
08:16He's never going to play over a guard for a whole game.
08:19He's never going to play just outside.
08:22Because keep in mind, him and Mesidor are about the same, and they just list Mesidor as an edge rusher
08:31or even a linebacker.
08:32They list him as a linebacker when they called his name.
08:35And so them being the same size and saying they play two different positions, sometimes it's not a matter of
08:45whether he's good or not, right?
08:47It's sometimes a matter of how is he going to fit with what we're doing as good as he is.
08:57And I understand everybody wanted Bain.
09:01I'm not mad.
09:03I'm not mad at you.
09:04Supposedly they were chanting at the draft party.
09:06They were chanting for him.
09:07Huh?
09:08Right.
09:09Supposedly.
09:09Again, it's a hard thing because I know from going through it and having it explained to me and seeing
09:23draft after draft after draft to see how these drafts pan out,
09:31there's, like, keep in mind, there's very few teams with the needs that they have that value the same players
09:39in the draft.
09:40They all have different grades, and part of that is based on need and stuff like that, right?
09:47And so when they go into the draft and the draft starts happening, like I said, it's like watching a
09:54game.
09:54The draft happens, and then it gets to you, and now you have to make a decision.
09:59A lot of times those decisions end up being, you know, it could be 50-50, right?
10:06It could be, hey, we want Bain, and then the way maybe Sully and Halfway are thinking is, let's get
10:16this O-line going.
10:17Now, I will say this.
10:19For all the people that say they should have took Bain, all right?
10:24I would say this to you.
10:27You are right from this perspective.
10:30One of the things that we overlook is the work ethic, the commitment to the craft, right?
10:41And you got a guy that you know.
10:44Here's a guy.
10:45He might be a little smaller.
10:46You might not know how you're going to use him, but you know the mentality that he brings to the
10:53table.
10:54Right?
10:55It's even harder to deal with if you're a Canes fan, if you're a Baines fan, if you're a Dolphins
11:01fan.
11:01It is harder to digest when the first words out of the mouth of all the pundits is, yeah, this
11:13guy has a tendency to be lazy.
11:14Dude, and that's the thing.
11:16You see what I'm saying?
11:20I don't want to crush Caden Proctor because I don't know him.
11:27I want him to have a great Dolphins career.
11:29But it's like even his own former coach is going out there and is like, yeah, he's got all of
11:37it, but he's not a self-starter.
11:39You need to get the weight in line.
11:42And when he talks about Reuben Bain, who he didn't coach.
11:46Right.
11:47And he's talking about the arms.
11:48He goes, yeah, well, I haven't been able to see anybody stopping from getting those hands to somebody's neck.
11:52And I'm like, and like, that's a guy who recruited Proctor.
11:59Right.
11:59Had Proctor.
12:00Now Proctor wanted to leave and then came back.
12:02That's why I said we drafted a football color where.
12:06Yeah.
12:07You know, so I don't know, man.
12:10Like, it's hard for me to not be bummed.
12:13I get it.
12:16They, I will tell you this.
12:18Those offensive line better be awesome.
12:19All right.
12:20I'm not, I'm not sitting around here.
12:22It better be awesome.
12:24Listen, here's what the crazy thing about all this is.
12:29The crazy thing about all this is, is you have, you know, you've done what you said you were going
12:38to do, but you don't want to be in a situation where.
12:46A year or two years or three years from now that you look back and the guy that you drafted
12:53wasn't worth the pick.
12:57And the guy that you passed on ends up being all world, right?
13:05That being said, when you have a lot of needs and when you have a lot of needs on a
13:15football team and you want to fortify your trenches, I'm telling you right now at 265 pounds, right?
13:30Like, Bane gets to the NFL, he won't be in the trenches until they figure out what and how they're
13:40going to use him.
13:41And, and that is the part that if you're a team that have a lot of needs to draft the
13:49guy, you're not quite sure how you're going to use him.
13:53He's not, when he starts, when football starts, they're not lining him over a guard.
14:01I don't care how good he is.
14:03Your left, your right guard is 330 pounds.
14:08Yeah.
14:09But even like the guy who went to, uh, who went, I think 17 yesterday, Blake Miller from Clemson there,
14:15there, their left tackle that he abused him as a left tackle against Clemson.
14:19And that guy's got giant arms.
14:21He's a, he's a menace.
14:22He's a, and this is the thing I think we've learned from John Eric Sullivan and we're going to probably
14:27see through this draft.
14:29Dude loves size.
14:30He said the same things about Chris Johnson at corner with 27.
14:34He likes guys who are big.
14:35That is what he's going to go with.
14:37Reuben Bane is not small, but he's not big.
14:41And I think that this, that, that is what you, you, this guy wanted to go with his eyes and
14:46not his gut.
14:47He wanted to go with his, he wanted to go with what he saw and, and not with Reuben Bane
14:52being, you know, Reuben Bane's notebook of being a monster and blessing people.
14:56A new GM is just not, you know, he's not going to believe that.
14:59And it may be to his detriment, because I'm going to tell you something that Tampa Bay war room looked
15:04incredibly happy.
15:06So, so question based on what, you know, about the guys that played that position.
15:14And again, I'm not talking about the production.
15:17I'm not talking about the talent, right?
15:21One of the, the hardest things for a GM to do, especially a new one is when you look at
15:32what generally plays a position.
15:37And again, not talking about production, not talking about how good, do you want your first pick to be an
15:44exception to all the rules that you have learned?
15:48Um, I mean, obviously he didn't, I mean, I, you know, we all have like the back fandom here.
15:55We can't, you know, it's hard for me to shake the bias on it.
15:59So I know, I know that's why I'm not, that's why I'm not mad.
16:04Yeah.
