Repeated rounds of rain are expected to inundate rivers and streams from Texas to the Mississippi Valley this weekend.
Transcript
00:00If you live from Texas to the Mississippi Valley, this weekend could get messy fast.
00:04Starting Friday night, you're looking at repeated rounds of heavy rain from the Rio Grande Valley through Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
00:10western Tennessee, and into southern Illinois.
00:12Not one quick storm, wave after wave through Sunday.
00:15Now, Saturday will include some strong to severe storms, but the biggest impact is likely to be flash flooding.
00:20Most of you will see 1 to 4 inches of rain, but some spots could push 8 inches.
00:25That means rapid flooding of small streams, low water crossings, and city streets.
00:29Now, in the Texas Hill Country, including Kerrville, that hard soil makes water move even faster.
00:34The good news, bigger rivers like the Red and Mississippi will rise, but they're starting pretty low, so major river
00:39flooding is not expected right now.
00:41The concern, though, is the short-term flooding, and more rain is likely next week, too.
00:45So if you're in a flood-prone area, now is the time to think about your plan before the water
00:50starts rising.
