00:00Merseyside is set to introduce a new food waste collection system in 10 weeks, beginning
00:05with Knowlesley Council. The service will see specially designed vehicles transporting
00:11up to 2.4 tonnes of food waste from households to local transfer centres. Councils aim to
00:17reduce landfill waste and lower carbon emissions in line with government targets to eliminate
00:23food centre landfill. Residents will receive indoor and outdoor caddies and liners to separate
00:29food waste. Collections are scheduled to start from 13 April. Council officials describe
00:35the programme as a key step towards cleaner, greener communities and encourage participation
00:41to maximise environmental benefits.
